The Best Present Part VI“Hell, I really hope this works. Might hurt a little when I hit the ground,” Turning his head to look over his shoulder, “Its coming up pretty quick too.” Christopher thought to himself as he was falling through the sky.More Like This
Back on the ship’s top side, Deryn swung her head back around to find Harkness, but he was no where to be found. Where the hell could he have gone? He couldn’t have just left her up here by herself with the Lieutenant free falling to the earth.
The blast shields were sealed shut when Deryn reached them, and the closest nest was still too far away. Her only option was to call for help some how. But there was no way to signal anyone, nor any way for her to send a message.
“Clart!” Deryn spat as she smashed her fists against the shields.
There was nothing she could do from here, she needed a new plan. But what? Searching around she found something strange. A glider set tied to a hook on the bottom shield. H

At first Deryn didn’t want to look, so she eased herself down into Alek’s chest. Hoping that whoever was shouting for them wouldn’t see. Alek tried to raise his head and have a chance at who was shouting, but Deryn pulled the back of his hair so that he would lay back down.
“Hey you guys, its me!” the voice continued to get louder as if it was coming closer.
“Hey, who is that shouting your name?” Harkness asked.
“No one,” Deryn hissed
“He seems like he knows you,” Richards said.
“Yeah, well right now, we don’t. Just ignore him,” Deryn whispered
“Alek!” The voice was only a few feet away at this point.
“Gods wounds, no,” Alek whimpered.

Deryn was wearing a jacket that she just bought, not cheap at all, but it was nice and warm for what she needed. More warm than her Rigging jacket. In fact, this was close to the same that the Officers would be given. Bloody suit, why do they always get the best things in life?
Of course, Lt. Christopher was an Officer. Out ranked most of the crew too, but he held himself at the lower crewman's level. He didn't care for anything fancy, having a nice coat that would keep him warmer would be nice. But if it only went to him. Why bother to have one if the rest of the crewmen didn't get one? As strange as he was, he was the best that the ship could offer as a noble leader. Even if he was s

“You’re the one who did all this? How could you be so incompetent and rude?” Richards said.
Malone took a few steps back and was in a roll of panic. Here he was, stuck in a serious situation and had no possible way out. Harkness was ready to kill the man, Richards wouldn't hurt him. But he would never get the end of things. The Lieutenant. Now that would be an even worse situation. That man was built to do one thing and knew how do to that better than any man alive.
How was Eddie suppose to get out of a jam like this in at least one piece?
Softly, Deryn placed a hand on the Lt.’s shoulder and he grabbed onto it as a natural reaction. Too many memories that dealt with the same experience. But he glanced over at her and then rubbed her hand.
Taking a step back and then turning his body so that she could walk past him. Behind her, he crossed his arms and stood like a statue. Deryn

Deryn's Nightmare part 1The air is cold, but there is a small breeze that's flowing in through a small window on the wall in the cabin. The whole cabin was dim with the light from the moon seeping in. Alek was lying in bed, trying to get at least some kind of sleep before the sun comes up. All she was wearing was her buttoned up white long sleeved shirt, which was a mess as well as her blue jeans. Her hair was either just as messy, or a bit worse.

You ask for me to choose.
But how can I?
Choose between the sky
wind in my face.
And still, I'd be alone
but for a soaring, floating whale-
And a ghilded cage-
dances and corsets.
on a Clakner throne.
Bustle, stockings, barely able
to move my legs?
High heels, terrible for running
unable to speak my mind, always afraid
of offending somebody-
a duke, a peasent, amabssador
unable to say clart, bum-rag-nor even breast?
Do you think I am insane
your royal princeliness?
And yet...and yet...
I would have you.
Green eyes, red hair and all.
And on your wedding day
I would laugh and kiss my love

nor any other nation
by flasely swearing

Oh, what is this?
What are you doing now?
Oh no, my love, do not do that!
Part 1: The Desire for GodBrothers and sisters;More Like This
The desire for God is written in the human heart, because man is created by God and for God; and God never ceases to draw man to himself. Like a shepherd to his flock, the Lord will always guide us and care for us, never turning away from us. Like a parent, he nurtures us and loves us, raising us and teaching us what is right and what is wrong, and how to distinguish between the two. Just as a child cannot live without a parent, we cannot live without God, for without Him, we lose the ability to learn and love.
Only in God can man find the truth and happiness he never stops looking for. As the Second Vatican Council reaffirmed, “The dignity of man rests above all on the fact that he is called to communion with God. This invitation to converse with God is addressed to man as soon as he comes into being. For if man exists, it is because God has created him through love, and through love continues to hold him in existence. A man cannot live fully according to t
Darwin's Fist: ImperfectHester Shaw, Corporal of Darwin's Fist, First Squad, looked in the mirror before her and saw and enemy.More Like This
It wasn't her face looking back at her, she knew that much for sure. HER face was military precise, clean and sharp and hard like the bayonet of an M1903 Springfield rifle. Smooth skin, grey eyes, short-cropped copper-wire colored hair. The face of a soldier, of a worthy subordinate to the Sergeant Major of all of the Fist.
What was looking back at her, though, was a mess. It ALMOST looked like her; same eyes, same hair, same skin. But, on it's right side, where her skin was fine, there was something WRONG.
A scar, a brutal, jagged split through the clear flesh and the center of the right eyeball, like a canyon through a desert. It was angry looking, the sides blood-red and inflamed looking, like it was still fresh. Inside, the remains of the meat it cut through was still stuck, gobbets of crimson flesh forever trapped in the moment of it's tearing. Where it passed through the eye so
Jett-Wolfe Contest Entry: NightmaresAndrew Harkness woke to the sound of sobbing.More Like This
It wasn't the crying that woke him up. He'd been having trouble sleeping for the last couple days, since the accident on the airship and the death of so many in his squad. He'd simply drifted out of the semi-slumber for a moment, and his weak mind latched on to the sound to yank him fully awake.
Izzy was crying again; he could hear that easily, even half-asleep as he was. Not that it really could be anyone else. Everyone else in this barracks other than Harkness and Izzy were from First Squad, which had gotten off easy in the airship explosion two weeks ago. They'd only lost half their people, unlike Second Squad, which now consisted of only Harkness and Izzy. Part of the reason the two were now bunking with the remains of First Squad. No reason to put two people in a barracks built for 12.
Harkness rolled over to check on Izzy. She was sleeping across from him, on the lower bunk of the pair second-nearest the door. She was shifting in her
Dalek Week Day 7: GenerationsAt first, she thought she was having a nightmare. That she'd simply fallen asleep at her post in the trenches and the scene before her was nothing but a figment of her tired mind.More Like This
But she knew it wasn't; she was awake, and what she was seeing was the medical dugout. She'd gone there to see Alek, who was recovering from a bad fall off a periscope the day before.
Apparently, she'd picked a bad time to come visit him.
Stretching out deeper into the well-built underground tunnel were rows of beds, almost every single one occupied by a German or Austrian soldier, most groaning or moaning and looking like they were barely alive.
This was the first time she'd seen the dugout full; so far, the injuries on the Darwinist side of the trenches had been light, with few serious injuries and even fewer casualties.
It looked like that had changed. Among the injured Clankers lay a few soldiers in Darwinist combat gear, but the majority of them looked like they were in better condition than any of the o
Dalek Week Day 6: ObsessionI have never claimed to be a Darwinist. Its obvious that I'm not one. I was born a Clanker, I lived as a Clanker until my parent's death, and I will most likely die a Clanker. But people think, simply because I gave up my right to the "throne of Clankerland", that I converted to Darwinism. I haven't, not by a long shot. I'm still very Clanker. I don't like fabs, I tinker with machines, and I don't care how greasy and covered in oil I get.More Like This
But...there is one Darwinist thing I have taken on. It's understandable, I guess. Even Clankers have to bow to what is written in they're bodies by evolution. I mean, they have fancy words for it, and stories and poems and songs to explain it, but it's simple biology.
No, I'm going to be brutally honest here;
I am obsessed with what the Darwinists call "mating", what others would call "physical romance" or, more simply, "sex".
Yes. There, I said it. And God's wounds is it ever true.
Deryn knows it too. She says it's because of my upbringing.

Her homeno, their home, no matter how little he seemed to be a part of itseemed empty. The halls were occupied only by the ghosts of happier days, before the boy she had known drifted away. They haunted her, and many times Deryn couldn't stand the emptiness and had to leave for a few hours just to clear her head of the awful sadness it gave her. Deryn often wondered if Alek got lonely, hunched over piles of paper from the rise of the sun to the set.
No. If he did, he wouldn't do the same day after day.
Of late, their conversations were brief, a few words here and there that she grasped at, trying to pull him back to he
