What should I do if I want to be good artist?
Is practice good enough?
What kind of good artist you wanted to be? I will teach you about the middle path then, because taking the extreme paths on each side is not recommended according to my experience. [super-duper skilled artist who lusts for skills nor starving artist who only draw lazy art and do extremely minimal things]
practice as often as your time permits, for regular art [generic drawing/coloring art] there are 4 rooms in the artist's heart, drawing skills, coloring skills/color theory, art composition skills, and imagination, try to practice all of them if possible.
And do not compare yourself with other people, some people said it is good to compare yourself with others, to improve your skills sky high , if you still have this ego, the more skilled you are, the more unpleasant you will have if you find
On copying and tracingThe art pages on the internet have a very clear list of cardinal sins. I guess the two Sins that reach the level of "Do not kill", are "Do not copy" and "Do not trace". For me, this hate is not understandable.More Like This
But before I will now get buried under the pure hate for such "thieves", let me explain:
We humans learn by copying. This is a fact. While we grow up, we learn how our parents behave and we try to copy this behavior to be like them. (And normally we try to get rid of all that again as soon as we're hitting puberty, but that's a different topic.) We learn how to be human by watching how other humans behave, we learn how to write by watching our teachers write and we learn how to speak by listening to others.
Everything we do, which is not just a reflex movement, we learn by copying from others. Including our fears, btw. If your parents are afraid of mice, chances are good that you will be too (trivial knowledge +1).
And we learn drawing in the very same way. Having an idol in draw

This is a message to anyone who´re feeling bad about their "artistic self-esteem" or lost the motivation to keep going with art. But of course, anyone can read and interpret this! Feel free to leave a comment if you want to add something (or blame me. ). You´re also free to share this!
Be "happy" with your art? Well. Not saying that you should stay satisfied with all your art so you´ll never improve. It´s more about being confident with the one you are as an artist. The artist inside of you. ~
Feel good about your art just the same way as you should feel confident with being yourself as a person. Draw what you want the same way as no one should blame you for what clothes you are wearing. Speak out your meanings and express all your sentiments just the same way as you shouldn´t be shameful about putting on your favorite music in front of everyone. Great Portfolio is greater than College DiplomaGreat Portfolio is greater than College Degree.More Like This
Of Course, I’m not exposed to every school in the world but from my general knowledge, personal experience and some basic logic: School is way too expensive to attend, especially if it takes you years later to get a decent job after graduation.
Here are three reasons why I’m not happy with most, not all, colleges in america. Especially for artists.
IT COSTS WAY TOO MUCH MONEY! I hear now that some art schools are charging $30,000 a year, for three years. That’s $90,000 of debt. Most professionals in my field of concept art don’t make that in a yearly salary. It’s more expensive than some medical schools and that’s becoming a doctor of some sort. So why is it so expensive? Doesn't matter, it just is.
Think about it this way. You are about to invest almost a tenth of a million dollars for the promise of being a capable person in the industry. But by the end, all you get is a piece of paper and a

I’m writing this article for the type of people who say that just can’t find motivation to:
Make a portfolio
Finish a painting
Work on their personal project
I got three tips I’m about to write, and it’s just advice and things that I found useful for myself. If you are capable to do any of these things you should definitely try them.
Fear. Get rid of it. If you are fearful of the outcome it will unmotivate you immediately. Just finish whatever it is and think about how you can improve after. If you can’t see what you need to improve ask someone else to tell you. There is always room to improve, and if you go into a critique with an open mind you will grow exponentially.
Think of it like this. If you were running one lap, and half way through you stopped because you were afraid you were going to throw up or pass out, you will never really know how fast you can run that lap. You didn’t push yours

Don’t tell an artist, “SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!" or "I would totally buy that!" if you’re not ready and/or willing to back it up with an actual purchase. Artists love that you love the piece, but often produce pieces/quantities based on apparent interest and potential customers. Gauges of potential buyers and gauges of general interest are both very important, but they are very different.

Aaaand I have my reasons for this, but that's not really what anyone who writes me wants to hear, I think. It's just a fair warning. However, over on my Tumblr today I wrote a quick (but long) article about the kinds of parts you should choose to build a full workstation computer to do digital art and general productivity on! All on a budget of about $450 to $600 for just the computer system itself.
Go check it out if you're thinking about building one soon! I know you can build a system for cheaper than this, but the idea was not to pick parts that were bottom-of-the-barrel. The idea was to pick quality, upper-level parts that will allow you to start doing work right away with plenty of room to upgrade to add even more performance over time (more memory, an SSD, a video card, etc.)
Hope it helps at least one of you out there!

Self taught artists.I bet most of you've noticed people labeling themselves as "self taught artists". I still wonder if this is actually a guarantee for quality... man, or if this is even relevant, at all. Considering all those social parameters of course.More Like This
A good friend of mine once told me she could teach me how to use colours in a special way because she taught everything she knows by herselves. I replied that I know many things about contrasts and colours due to my apprenticeship. (I am a media designer, but I consider that job rather a craft than art but nevertheless you're taught creative things.) She told me it's not worth much because she got a unique view on this matter because of the "self taught" thing. Not being influenced by a teacher and stuff. Yeah.
Aren't we all self taught artists to the point we're actually able to chose to get some education like art classes or books? And even if we don't take courses. How should anyone be able to learn anything without experience? W
Artist Intent vs Fan CriticismsThis has been a subject I've been interested in for years, and one which I personally struggle with on a near constant basis: Artist's intent versus fan criticisms. As I've been observing fan interactions over the years I've noticed a severe increase in a sense of entitlement: IE: that if you love something enough you have a "right" to force the creators to change their content to suit your personal preferences. We saw this play out to the extremes this past summer with the Mass Effect 3 ending debacle, and we see it play out to a much lesser extent here on DA quite a bit.
Artists need feedback and criticisms to grow and improve their work, but at what point does it move beyond offering suggestions to help an artist improve to outright de

PE: Importance of AnatomyThe importance of anatomy.More Like This
Understanding anatomy is crucial to many aspects of your art.
You'll notice that anatomy is essential for drawing. It becomes difficult to accurately draw a complex pose, or even a simple one, if you don't understand what's under all that skin or fur, or even bark. Knowing how everything fits together is important.
Once you notice where that certain muscle is, shading and form become much more accurate and more natural. Knowing why the nose and eyes fall where they do make it much easier to draw from memory, and nail that natural look you were going for.
Learning the anatomy of the subject you're going to draw is quite important, and will definitely help you on several levels.
It's also easier to drawing sequences of movement. One will know what connects to what, and how they move. What is possible, and what isn't. (Range of motion)
Drawing people and other animals can be intimidating. Once you have a solid foundation, it's much easier
PE: The Impact of Color1. - WHAT IS COLOR?More Like This
Color is the aspect of things that is caused by differing qualities of light being reflected or emitted by them, as received by the human eye and processed by the human brain. It is a function of light and biology, not an exact science, no two people can see it exactly the same.
The human eye and brain together translate light into color. Light receptors within the eye transmit messages to the brain, which produces the familiar sensations of color. Newton observed that color is not inherent in objects. Rather, the surface of an object reflects some colors and absorbs all the others. We perceive only the reflected colors. Thus, red is not "in" an apple. The surface of the apple is reflecting the wavelengths we see as red and absorbing all the rest. An object appears white when it reflects all wavelengths and black when it absorbs them all.
"Colors are the deeds of light, its deeds and sufferings."

1. Saving your .psd with all layers hidden makes a smaller file compared to saving it with all layers visible.
2. You can use the Crop Tool to quickly increase the canvas size of an image by holding down Ctrl + Alt whilst dragging the Crop Tool outside the current canvas.
3. If you want to see only one of your layers at a time, hold down Alt whilst clicking the eye icon of the layer. (do it again to show all layers again)
4. Holding down Alt while in a dialog box turns the Cancel button into a Reset button, so you can reset the values back to default.
5. If you want to just quickly check a very heavy .psd file, you can hold down Shift + Alt while clicking the Open button. This way Photoshop will open a flattened version of the file.
6. You can change the gray background that surrounds your image with the Paint Bucket Tool, just hold down Shift and make click on the background.

Slenderman AttackTwo girls in Wisconsin have been arrested for stabbing a classmate, apparently with the intention of becoming minions of the Slenderman. They were caught walking near a local highway, en route to Wisconsin’s Nicolet National Forest, where they believe the fictitious character lives.More Like This
The victim, who was stabbed 19 times, is making a recovery.
All the girls involved are around 12 years old.
That’s all terrible, but what actually irks me more is that a spokesman for the Slenderman creator, and administrator for the website where most fiction revolving around the character is posted, has said "We are not teaching children to believe in a fictional monster, nor are we teaching them to be violent."
I think it’s pretty bad that a person who comes up with a concept has to be afraid of the reaction to how other people use it. Especially children. They’re random, dangerous little buggers.
Think back to your own childhood. What was the stupidest thing you did, and why?
Titillation vs. SexismBoobs.More Like This
Guys are fascinated by them.
Through single-digit ages, they find the very concept of them hilarious, and when puberty kicks in the mere thought of lady-lumps generally causes some movement in the trouser department. These weak-willed creatures will follow them anywhere and they will do almost anything if it means simply being permitted to gaze upon them for a few moments more.
The entertainment industries, from the big movie makers to the lowly art whores (like me) know this, and have played upon it for years in order to separate males from their money. As a result, mass media is awash with the female form in all manner of provocative poses and dress.
Many women are fed up with this, but is the whole thing “sexist”?
Well, it’s impossible and indeed wrong to say a whole industry is one thing or another. Ultimately it’s all one, big, dumb organism that simply moves with the cultural winds. It perpetuates what sustains it. It’s only when you break it

Some people see me as a talented writer or artist, others (including myself) raise the bar even higher.
But regardless of what you see as skilled or not, I don't think there's such a thing as 'them' and 'us' in the art world. It's too small of a world. We're too alike. And I think most of us aren't exactly prone to living a celebrity lifestyle anyway. Bitches & bling don't match well with the usually quiet lifestyle an artist prefers.
