I saw behind her and noticed she was drawing in a little notepad. It had lined paper and she was drawing with an ink pen. I reached down in my bag, grabbed my sketchbook, and flipped through to some random sketches containing Motoko Kusanagi (from Ghost in the Shell), Sesshoumaru (Inu-Yasha), and a random girl in a school uniform. I tapped on her shoulder and showed her. Her eyes gleamed with excitement and admiration. Ava was 10 years old.
In that moment, I saw myself. Here I am, a decade older than her and the same thing happened to me a long time ago with an artist who was a decade older than I was.
