I wonder why is white tiger white. That’s because it is albino, right?
White tigers are NOT albinos. Albinos would have red eyes. White colour of tigers is caused by recessive gen, whole genetic and colourful deviation is called leucism. White tigers usually have blue eyes and white fur with visible dark stripes.

White tigers are so wonderful! What a shame that this species is endangered in the wild :(
At first, white tiger is NOT a species at all!
In the wild, white tigers extremely RARELY occured amoung Bengal tigers.
But white tiger is NOT a separate species of tiger.

If white tigers are so rare, how comes that we can see them in so many animal parks?
In 1951, people managed to capture a white male cub of tiger. It was brought to captivity, where the male mated with normal orange female. People hoped to get white babies, but newborn cubs were orange. People then got and idea – and they let the white male mate with his OWN daughter. As a result, white babies were born. All white tigers in America and Europe have origin from this pair and their babies.

Er... origin from this pair and its babies?
Yes. To produce more white tigers, INBREEDING was needed. What does inbreeding mean? It means that mothers have babies with their sons or fathers have babies with their daugthers. Or siblings mate to produce more white cubs.
In fact, white tigers are DOMESTIC breed! They are closer to domestic CATS than to fantastic wild tigers. There are at least ELEVEN colour variants of white tigers – it reminds of breeding some budgies.

That’s sick, is not it? What about the result? What abouth health of white tigers?
Of course, inbreeding resulted in serious health damage of white tigers. Many of white tigers cubs are born dead or damaged. Cats have serious problems, for example with their spin. They are also cross-eyed, which is caused by white recessive gen itself. They are simply over crossed and bred poor creatures.

But inbreeding happens even in the wild, for example among lions!
Can you, please, tell me, which wild animal species has an origin in only ONE already inbred pair and then in one line of always inbred animals? In a healthy big population, single cases of inbreeding are not bad, but only inbreeding is.

But white tigers are still tigers after all! They surely need to be protected?
No. White tigers have NO value for protection of tigers.
Not only they are damaged. Not only they are domestic species. But to limit the results of inbreeding, animal facilities tried to mix blood of white tigers, letting them mate with another subspecies of tigers. Which means, that white tigers have no value for protection of tigers.
You need animals with pure blood for every conservation effort – pure blooded Amur tigers, pure blooded Malayan tigers, pure blooded Sumatran tigers. Some mixed, damaged, cross-eyed inbred white tiger has really NO value for protection of tigers.
In fact, their keeping is even more problematic – ZOOs keep them as an attraction instead of keeping and breeding REALLY endangered subspecies of tigers (Amur, Sumatran, Malayan), which really need protection. Those subspecies must be supported by ZOOs to have a chance to survive. Not white mutants.

Wait... why do ZOOs, even respected ones, keep white tigers then?
White tigers are good for marketing, as they are very attractive.
The question is not only black and white – white tigers attract the visitors and ZOOs can use money from entrance fees to breed and protect really endangered species of animals.
But American asociation of ZOOs has already banned breeding of new baby white tigers, hoping to remove this little “deviation“ from North American ZOOs in 20 years.
Nobody wants to shoot white tigers right now. They are living creatures and they deserve to live in the best living conditions. We should just stop breeding new ones.

Who the hell told you about this? What a crap!
Check the internet for info.
To provide real fact about white tigers, I contacted one of the most respected animal facilities in the world – ZOO Prague, which is very successful at breeding endangered species of animals, including tigers. This ZOO’s task was to control Europen population of white tigers in 2009. They were nice enough to send me valuable source of info.
[link] [link] [link]

So... why do YOU post photos of white tigers then? What a hypocryte you are. You just want to have faves.
My photos of orange tigers are far more popular than photos of white tigers.
I also use my photos to INFORM people – and be sure that many of them were shocked when they learned about the origin of white tigers. Usually, people thank me for informing them, but of couse, some trolls who flame me for presenting those facts occur time to time.
Also... white tigers are nice – and they will probably disappear in few decades. Why should I deny their existence? It is good to use images of them to remeber their presence and to remember, how people in fact “created“ them, letting them suffer for their beauty.

Hyacinth Macaw (Anodorhynchus hyacinthinus, ara hyacintovy) from ZOO Prague, Czech republic. Wonderful parrot :aww:

____________

INFO ABOUT THE ANIMAL:

Name: Hyacinth Macaw (Anodorhynchus hyacinthinus)
Location: near rivers in Brazilian / Amazonian rainforests
Size: 100 cm long body, 140 cm wingspan weight: 2 kg
Diet: fruit, nuts, coconuts, seeds, but also small animals
Conservation status: Endangered
Interesting facts: Hyacinth macaw is the biggest parrot on Earth | hyacinth macaw can live 80 years! | those parrots live in pairs or in small groups. They usually have two or three babies and parents care for them for five months | the amazing colour of their body almost killed those amazing and wonderful macaws. Humans were hunting hyacinth macaws to sell them, as many collectors were ready to pay crazy amounts of money just to gain one of these parrots. Fortunately, some special program was started and now native people gain more money, when they show Hyacinth macaws to tourists in the nature, so they have no reason to catch and sell those magical birds

Wild crazy Eurasian red squirrel (Sciurus vulgaris, Veverka obecná) from ZOO Nuremberg, Germany :D

Story of the photo: I visit ZOO Nuremberg very rarely, but almost everytime I get there, I see this red squirrel on the same place, so I guess it is always the same animal. This time, the cutie got crazy - it was close to me, just above my head and it was TALKING with a voice of a snarrling cat, saying ,,MÍÍÍÍÍÍÍ!" all the time. Crazy!

Location: Europe, Asia
Size: 23 cm long body + 20 cm long tail weight: up to 340 g

Conservation status: Least Concern
Interesting facts: although they are called RED, red squirrels can have also brown or even almost black coats. Belly is white | although red squirrels are not endangered right now, American grey squirrel, which got to Europe, can be a danger for them, as grey squirrels are able to eat also acorns (red squirrels are not able to feed on acorns), so they have easier life in Europe and they are a serious competition for native Red squirrel. Also, they carrie an illness, which is fatal for Eurasian red squirrels. Grey squirrels caused serious decrease of number of Red squirrels in UK | red squirrels can reach 7 years in the wild | female squirrel can give a birth two times a year – they can have 2-6 babies | squirrels are evil! Terezka!

Please, NO stupid comments about the leash!
This baby fox was saved by nice people who have already rised or saved several foxes, who now have a happy life. This baby fox was walking on leash, because it was supposed to meet two silver foxes in a cage. Through the fence, they got to know each other. This tactic worked very well, Terezka now lives together with them and they have a great relationship.
I got to hug her! :aww: and she was named after me! :faint:

Legend: foxes play important role in many myths and legend. Due their inteligence, they have become symbol of slyness and cunning. They are also very popular animals, who have role in many fairy tales. In the Czech republic, author Rudolf Tesnohlidek wrote very famous book about very clever hand-rised vixen called Bystrouska. I loved that book and also it funny happy end!

Polar / arctic fox (alopex lagopus, liska polarni, pesec) from ZOO Brno, Czech republic :aww:

Story of the photo: yes, this fox is a HERO! :aww: it is a daddy of two kits - he is such a brave guard of his family! He is always ready to defend them, running along the fence to guard :D recently I saw a great scene. A family with a tiny dog came close to enclosure of foxes - they saw baby kits and were very excited, but they were nice enough to keep very tolerant distance between them, dog and enclosure. The daddy fox got careful. He got as close as possible and laid on land in ,,I am ready for everything position". Family was ok, but then the dog got too excited about the foxes and jumped forward. Baby foxes immediately hid themselves in a burrow. And daddy fox jumped, making ABSOLUTELY incredible loud and awfull yell! He started ,,attacking" the fence, being a live shield between a dog and kits. People were fortunately clever and the guy took a doggy, immediately leaving to not annoy the fox family. Daddy fox started running along the fence, controling and following the leaving guys. Then it sat in the exhibit's corner, which was the closest to the pair and stayed there until they totally left and the danger was over :D

Great example of a courageous littly daddy fox and also of visitors with brain and tolerance! I really liked how they immeciately left to not annoy fox family :D

NOTE: yes, some Czech ZOOs (a half) allow visitors to enter with dogs  and this fox is totally healthy - arctic foxes lose their fluffy coat in summer, which makes them look dark and slim :D

Baby jaguar (Panthera onca, jaguar) from ZOO ZOO Berlin, Germany :D

Story of the photo: Very bad quality, I know - it was very cloudy (and rainy) day and this was taken through double, maybe even tripple fence. But I could not resits to post this, as it was a pretty cute moment. All three baby jaguars were relaxing in a box together with their mommy. The kittens were watching a sparrow, who was jumping in front of them, obviously not aware of the predators, who were ready to attack. But the birdie finally flew away, with all the cubs turning their heads in its direction. It made me smile :giggle:

Red panda (Ailurus fulgens, panda cervena) from ZOO Schönbrunn, Vienna, Austria :D

In many ZOOs, it is very difficult to snap a red panda, as they tend to sleep a lot and to hide in the top of trees. If you want to find real camera posers, go to ZOO Vienna, they are always active and giving you some faces! ;D

Yes, I await one million of "oh my godzzzz, itz Pabuuuuuuuu" comments. It happens everytime I post a photo of a red panda. How original, people. Really.

I was browsing through old photos taken with Canon Powershot S5 IS and I was deleting the bad quality shots. Then I saw this - and although I decided to not post old camera photos anymore, I simple need to share this! :D I have a tendency to save my best photos for later and this shot was a victim of my bad habit. Before I posted it, I got much better camera, so the quality of this photo was too low in my eyes. Finally I forgot the photo completely. I saw it yesterday and it made me smile, so I think posting it might be a good idea

Bit of an ad-hoc capture this (camera propped up on a shelf with something wedged under the lens - just as a test really). I need to have another session of trying to get some decent clean-ish shots of kittens jumping towards the camera :).

This is a photo I quite like - no special quality, but I really love this combination and maybe a contrast of a captive cheetah and freely flying crows  to me, it has some additional value :D

Location: north of Eurasia, North America, Greenland
Size: 67 cm long body, 30 cm high, 40 cm long tail weight: 5 - 9 kg

Females give birth to 4-8 pups and both parents take care of the babies | some foxes are called ,,blue foxes“ due special colour or their coat | polar foxes are able to survive temperature – 80°C! | polar foxes often follow polar bears to eat rest of bear’s prey | polar foxes have thick fur even on their paws – that’s why they can walk on ice

Silver red fox (vulpes vulpes, liska obecna, stribrna forma), Czech republic. She was saved from a fur-farm, and although her current owners love her and treat her very well, she is still very shy :(
