"Everything will be alright," Caesar said softly as he held his brother tight. The truth is he wasn't sure how things will turn out but he had to say something. Rex was sobbing hysterically a moment ago and so he grabs hold of the boy to calm him down. The boy was still crying, amidst a series of hiccups, in his embrace. There was a sad look in Caesar's eyes as the reality of it all dawned upon him.
'They're gone. They're not coming back. Now it's just me and Rex.' He held Rex tighter as if afraid he'll lose the boy too if he doesn't. He closes his eyes as he felt Rex's tiny arms wrap around his waist. It was getting harder to keep the tears in and one escaped from the corner of his eyes. He dipped his head lower to hide his face even though he knew there was no one else in the apartment. They stayed that way for a long time holding on to each other; crying the pain and shock away.
