A starry night in Kirkjufell, the Pyramid mountain. A hint of Aurora was in the sky when I took this (4-image, 40+MP) vertical panorama, and the perfectly-clear milky way appeared to engage in some sort of mystical dance with the mountain and the lagoon surrounding it, reflecting the stars.

The Leprechaun Lake in the Enchantments in early October this year. A wonderful area but highly regulated (it seemed that hiker with larger backpacks are under general suspicion for camping illegal). I guess I'll write about that topic (the United States Park System "to protect nature") separately in a few weeks.

Air through a veil, velvet from dust, blankets long stones and frenzied slopes. Some close their eyes, others awaken. The day grows long in the canyon lands.

Another cloudless afternoon for the third week in a row now. It's rather depressing not having any clouds to work with, makes the scene rather boring but it's also a challenge to try and get a strong enough foreground so that the lack of clouds does not matter. I think this shot shows how a strong foreground subject can really make a scene regardless of the skies above. Fingers crossed the weather prediction for this weekend is true and we can see some clouds again... I really hope so, I miss them!

The north face of the Monte Perdido, in the spanish Pyrenees. The mountain was masked by the clouds during 3 days, revealing the glacier occasionally... It was really cold and there was a strong wind, the ambiance was very impressive. It reminded me the world of Tolkien, Arda, with the Middle Earth and the Undying Lands. This place could have been the abode of some ancient gods or giants dragons.

Wow, a new Daily Deviation ! Thank you so much, and thanks for all those comments  :)

Currently, there is no many clouds in the sky. The weather is really hot, too hot ... But one morning, near the Lac Bleu, there have been a sort of haze in the mountains, and the ambiance at the sunrise was really soft and peaceful. The wind made undulate the wild grass ... It was a very beautiful scene.

"At first the beauty of the melodies and of the interwoven words in elven-tongues, even though he understood them little, held him in a spell, as soon as he began to attend to them. Almost it seemed that the words took shape, and visions of far lands and bright things that he had never yet imagined opened out before him; and the firelit hall became like a golden mist above seas of foam that sighed upon the margins of the world. Then the enchantment became more and more dreamlike, until he felt that an endless river of swelling gold and silver was flowing over him, too multitudinous for its pattern to be comprehended; it became part of the throbbing air about him, and it drenched and drowned him. Swiftly he sank under its shining weight into a deep realm of sleep.
There he wandered long in a dream of music that turned into running water, and then suddenly into a voice."

Autumn time is upon me, and I intend to make the most of the last of the shooting season. I drove for 3 hours in the wee hours of the morning with a friend of mine to Riding Mountain national park. One of the only high vantage points in my province. Coming from the prairies that's saying a lot. we got there just in time to find a nice local to wait for the fiery sunrise to begin. If you've never heard of Riding Mountain, it's kind of like Yellowstone without all the waterfalls, but there are bison on the road, and lots of wolfs.

Stawa Mills - Stawa (a beacon) in the shape of a windmill , situated at the end of Western Breakwater in Swinoujscie. On its top there is a flashing light, which serves to navigation . It has a height of 10 m , is painted white and a black roof.
Stawa Mills is one of the symbols of Swinoujscie, as part of the official logo of the city. Photos of "windmills" are widely used in promotional materials, on postcards from Swinoujscie, covers guides, etc

Managed to line up a nice shot for once. If I had a better camera it even might have made a decent poster. Best it could make now is a greeting card. Just gotta add some cheesy line like "visit Burgas" in an even cheesier font and it's done.

I got a new lens! The Sigma 10-20mm f4-5.6. So I was up first thing this morning, and headed to a local reservoir. I stopped on the causeway and waited for the sun to come up. I knew these lead-in lines from the road would make a good composition.

"'Is there no way,' said I, 'of escaping Charybdis, and at the same time keeping Scylla off when she is trying to harm my men?'

"'You dare-devil,' replied the goddess, you are always wanting to fight somebody or something; you will not let yourself be beaten even by the immortals. For Scylla is not mortal; moreover she is savage, extreme, rude, cruel and invincible. There is no help for it; your best chance will be to get by her as fast as ever you can..."

- The Odyssey

This is on of the most complex shots I have done. It is a composite of 5 horizontal images shot at two different times. I shot the first set of five after sunset to capture some light in the FG. For each of those exposures I had to add 20% to each following exposure time to keep the exposure value the same. Then, I shot each of the pano slices again 45 minutes later to get the sky. Again, I had to increase each consecutive exposure, this time by only 10%, to achieve the same exposure value through out each slice. Then I combined each exposure slice - foreground with sky. Lastly I put each of the five blended shots together into a complete pano. Finished it off with some levels and selective color adjustments.

After all that, I hope it works for people. It was a huge undertaking and it was very difficult to accurately pre-visualize the finished piece so some of the elements might not be perfectly placed.

p.s. Just for clarity, the color on the clouds is the setting new moon. That is why there is so much color.
