Conservatives and ReactionariesThe meaning of words is too important to ignore in politics, and there is one word that has been mutilated into something grotesque by the worst elements of our political discourse. Conservative. Its an idea that advocates trying to preserve things as they are by emphasizing stability and continuity. It is an ideology that does not fear change, but simply wishes for it to be managed well. Too many politicians identifying as conservative today are in fact reactionaries. Reactionaries oppose modernism and seek a return to "the way things were," a goal historically being both futile and self destructive; something the current Republican party is demonstrating with startling persistance. True conservatives are not concerned with trivial changes in our culture, but rather the long term continuity of the national spirit. The Reactionaries have been given their moment, and it is time to send them back to irrelevance where they belong.More Like This

It is twilight in the Russian Far East, stars slowly twinkle into existence above in the navy blanket that is the sky. Deep in the forests, the temperature drops steeply as total night approaches and a gentle snow begins to fall on the steadily darkening land. A small herd of Sika deer emerge from the trees; they are on their migration trek towards warmer lands. The herd freezes, alert. There is a predator watching.
Several yards away, a spotted feline lies hidden. This feline is an Amur Leopard.
There are less than 40 left in the wild.

At the risk of sounding left of left, which only a few decades ago was center, I have a couple of issues that are troubling me. The twenty something generation, two of which I am responsible for, has grown up in a culture of endless war. As most kids develop, they start to become aware of society in general at about ten years old, so if you were born in, say 1992, as you reach your twenty first birthday you cannot remember a time when your country wasn't somewhere fighting someone. Peace would seem an odd thing indeed. Add to the fact there is no individual forced involvement with these wars (draft) it's not something kids give much thought to. The only kids aware of our endless war are the ones that can't find work and join the military or are persuaded to join with glamorous marketing images implying warfare is like your favorite video game. Once in, our Faustian military policy makers employ what is referred to as "the back door draft", meaning multiple

`I want you. To tell me. Why there is orange juice in the bath water.`
Parsley scratched absently at his ear.
`It was an accident.`
`Well yes, I don`t know of anyone who would purposely spill orange juice in the bath water, do you?`
Parsley shrugged, his face beginning to flush from the lack of oxygen.
`What I would really like to know is what could`ve possibly enlightened you to leave such a nice surprise for me so early in the morning. Would it really take so much effort to even call Rosemary to come and clean it up?`
Parsley`s eyes popped slightly, with surprise or suffocation, Sage wasn`t sure which, and he weakly raised one finger in explanation. Sage let Parsley drop to the floor and stood over him with his arms folded. Parsley coughed and stood, straightening his collar.
`You don`t know? Rosemary ran away just last evening
