Taking this shot I was reminded of The Voyage of the Dawn Treader by C.S. Lewis

Technical Information:
Canon EOS 300D (Digital Rebel)
12mm, f/22, ISO 100

Manual blending of 3 exposures of 1/2, 1, and 2 seconds.
I may have used a 2-stop Graduated Neutral Density and held it in front of the lens with my hand, I don't remember.

By far the most spectacular light i`ve photographed.

I looked at the forecast and the signs were there... Extremely warm temperatures and a potential thunderstorm approaching. This could be hit or miss. I risked standing there on the mountain being soaked by nothing but rain. But there was potential...

I got ready for the long hike up to a mountainridge facing north. I wanted a clear unobstructed view towards the midnightsun. When i started the hike it was almost 30 degrees celsius and the sun was making it tiring to climb, even though it was getting late in the evening. When i was getting closer to the ridge i could feel the first raindrops on my skin. And sure...pretty soon i could hear the first sounds of thunder. Now, i was getting pumped. I almost ran up on the ridge even though its normally not recommended standing like this, totally exposed on one of the highest points in the area while lightning strikes rippes up the sky. I went into crazymode and found my compositions. Crazymode means taking chances...this time i climbed out on a slippery shelf with nothing but a lake below me...some hundred meters below me...

So there i was..soaking wet firing away exposures hoping to catch the lightningstrikes while at the same time battling the raindrops screwing up my filters. 50 exposures was made of this scene. 1 had a lightningstrike in it...

To the west the midnightsun was shining warm and bright...to the east there was a pitch black sky full of thunder and lightning. I dont expect seeing this again anytime soon. Im glad i got to see this show from the best seat in the house.

If you want to go into crazymode together with me, you have the chance.

Head on over to www.lofotentours.com to see all the tours on offer at the moment.

This shot was taken yesterday's morning in a magnificient valley.

We planned this trip just the day before as we knew there could be fog and cirrus clouds at sunrise time... indeed there was a sea of mist, and the cirrus clouds made a wonderful glowing light at dawn which tinted the mist, while the land was still dark. A magic moment spent in a preserved wild landscape.

The humbling power of Iguazu falls- a true masterpiece of nature! This is La Garganta del Diablo (the Devil's throat) from the Argentine side of the falls at sunrise. Hum the theme to the movie 'The Mission' for added effect...

Kogel Bay, South Africa

The 20 second exposure was made possible by the 9 stop ND400 filter, with a 3 stop grad on top of it.

* Since this is one of my favourite shots from this location, I decided to redo the processing. Back then I was a bit heavy handed with the sats and contrast. I think we all are in the beginning :)

Here is a recent photograph from yesterday morning out at Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge This is an image that I have been really wanting for awhile now but the light always eluded me so I jumped at the chance when conditions allowed it to happen. The amazing sunrise lit the whole area up in shades of golds and oranges and the subtle reflections of color just was the icing on the cake. Finally got an image I have been chasing after!

Snow clouds begin to clear along Kebler Pass outside of Crested Butte, Colorado and as they do, East Beckwith Mountain of the West Elks begins to emerge at sunrise showing its fresh new coat of snow.
This scene didn't last long at all, really no more than a few seconds before the peak was engulfed once again with clouds. The sky was simply amazing, reflecting the sunrise behind me. Mostly everything is rather cloudy with pockets of fog but for a brief moment things opened up to give a glimpse. Colorado, there's just no other place like it especially during Autumn!

Evening light on the Grand Roc Noir and Vallonnet Summit in Vanoise National Park. The autumn sun declines gradually on the horizon, coloring with gold the snow covered peaks. The night and the cold fall come around us with a quiet and soothing silence. The wind has stopped, making a perfect reflection on the surface of a lake without any waves.

With joints screaming and legs aching from a long hike up another fourteener, I began to make my way towards the Upper South Colony Lake. Gorgeous low hanging clouds accompanied by a setting sun began to set the mood for some potential shots.

I decided to start the shin dig by focusing on the tail waters spilling out from the lake. With sun kissed peaks supplying a backdrop, I would have had to of been crazy not to focus on the beautiful flowers within the small stream.

What an amazing place this was and I cannot wait to return for a strict photo trip.
