Piece for a personal project. Done in kind of 'MMO conceptart' style... not much focus on character :P

hope you enjoy! C/C appreciated.

Atomhawk worked with Sony's London Studio on their launch title for the incredible new gaming accessory, Wonderbook™ for PS3.

The Book of Spells™ is set in the wizarding world of Harry Potter, and this environment concept brings to life one of the many magical rooms at Hogwarts.

Hi!
This image is a cover art for a friend.
The image represents a mystical place, somekind of portal
with statues and puzzles included. Try to evoke the look of the movie scenes of LOTR.
Later more I can climb a more elaborate version.

Regards!

Photoshop 12-15 hrs give or take

Here is the zoomed out establishing shot of my city Visegard.
I spent another 3 hours on google earth researching plains of china and Europe. Found some interestingly inspiring places. I realized sometimes reality is better than anything you create.
Finished this a week prior to posting. Then I played the amazing game Uncharted 2 got a load of inspiration and made this 15% more epic.
Im sorry i didn't save any progress shots because I tore through this as fast as I could. Ill tell you my secret recipe for creating most of my images though:

30% concept (Have a decent idea)
-----------------------------------------------
30% Believability (ground your idea in reality so that the viewer can relate to it.)
-----------------------------------------------
30% Style (polish your idea with a creative finishing tech).
-----------------------------------------------
Finally add a dash of Epicness

This is concept art for a project I worked on recently. I'm not allowed to say the name, but I'll let you guys know when it's out which should be soon;)

This would be considered a 'paintover', in which you're given a rough scene blocked in by a 3d artist( literally just blocks, primitives in Maya, Max etc.) and are pretty much asked to make it 'pretty.'
I'll post the rough 3d scene as well so you guys can see the difference.

Yes, kind of annoying, but that's one of the things you have to deal with as a concept artist. You usually work on a project early on, which means you can show the work until the project is done…and sometimes that's years!

If you'd like to learn the digital painting techniques I used to create images like this,
definitely check out my download store for incredibly affordable video tutorials:

My 4th DD, thank you deviants!!

Made with Mandelbulb3D 1.8.9 - using the new volumetric light!
HeightMapIFS + _Rotate + ABoxVaryScale + ABoxModKali

Temple Variants:

Check out my 3D printed fractal sculptures!

How to use Volumetric Lights in Mandelbulb3D? =>
Go into the coloring tab of the main window and click on the "Dyn fog on it" button: it will transform into volumetric light. In the text box next to it, you put the number of the light source you want to use for volumetric (by default it's the 1st one) then you can render the image. If the light direction is not interesting, you can change it using the sliders in the Global Light tab of the light which is selected (make sure that the light in On, and also note that volumetric lighting also works with Positional light, as in the latest image by Kraftwerk). Then you can modify the intensity of the light by playing with the d.Fog sliders in the Lighting window. As a side note, if you use Hard shadows, don't forget to try to tick the "Softer HS" box in the post process window, and try to increase the Radius value. It will blur hard shadow edges for more realistic renders. Hope this helps.

Hi all, here is a small scene inspired by =burningmonk's photography, check out his gallery!
I did everything myself using 3Ds Max and Photoshop and then put everything in the CryEngine SDK (the tree is the only asset I used from the SDK).
Post-prod: a bit of sharpen, a bit of noise and the black bars.
Hope you'll like it!

This is a little bit of a revisit to an old idea – “Orbit” was originally just me mucking about but became very popular for prints and publishing – however I never really thought that much about it at the time (I was literally just sketching space art as a bit of fun between projects). I loved the idea of the piece so now, 8 years on I've had another stab at it. :)

“A highly advanced race builds an enormous spaceport off the coast of a continent, dwafing the 20km high skyscrapers on the land, the main structure brushing the cloud layers with near 100km diameter docking spurs surrounding it. Built above the main structure, another level that is beyond the atmosphere – allowing craft to dock without braving the weather on the planet”

Painted in Adobe PS CS3
Wacom Intous 3 Tablet
Original res 5k wide
About 20-22 hour work.
I used some great photos of Earth from space as reference for the world.

Book now out :)

Something I painted with the low amount of free-time I have left for personal art :p
Experimenting with lasso selections and such..really nice tool. Used some random night-city photo to help out with the lights in the structures.

Might do some more images with the same concept since it was pretty fun!

Cheers

This one was so much fun to do! Worked on it quite a while because I wanted to combine my fantasy style with some more urban stuff.
Also the composition was quite a bit of work, adding the dogs really helped making the eye twirl around in the painting.
Hope you guys like it! :meow:
