This was a little commission I got from my aunt. A person she knew was asking for a Marius sweater, and since my aunt ain't that happy with bigger projects on the needles, she pushed it over to me, and I happily accepted it. Working up a Marius sweater is a quick fix, expecially in smaller sizes. This is a regular adult size M, so with a relaxed tempo, it took me 10 days to finish it.
The commissioner provided me the yarn, which was a treat cause she had bought Smart from Sandnesgarn, a yarn brand that's out of my price range. Getting to try out this beautiful was a good experience...even though I didn't feel too much difference from the cheaper wool yarn I usually go for. But it's one of the yarn brands that's recommended for the pattern, so this is probably the most Norwegian sweater I'll ever make. The commissioner also picked out the colours, but if I could, I would have adviced her to pick either a lighter grey or a different blue colour, cause they kinda melt together.

For those of you whom do not know, Marius is the name of the fair-isle pattern around the chest, it has become a national treasure and a big part of our knitting tradition here in Norway. For the last few years, this pattern again became very popular over here in Norway and it has now been printed on everything and everyone wants a sweater, whether it's kids or grown ups, the original sweater or this round yoke version, traditional colours (navy blue, white and red) or more untraditional colours. In 2012, they released a whole book full of knitting patterns for this fair-isle and it contains all kinds of clothing to household objects to furniture. It's an amazing and beautiful pattern made by the knitter Unn Søiland in 1953 for a Norwegian comedy movie called "Troll i ord" which is a term we use here. The best translation for it would mean "be careful what you say, it might come true". The main actor in this movie, and also one of the persons wearing the first ever sweater with this pattern, was Marius Eriksen, and that's how the pattern got its name.

I've made several other Marius sweaters (and there's more to come) so please check out my gallery for more!

This picture shows the new series Dalek design, but using a title that harks back to the original series of First Doctor stories.

I am currently making another 'version' of this pic, but with improved building and scaling designs. Treat this image as a taster for new things to come.

Once developed and with the right motivation applied I hope you enjoy them.

My take on the Mentors Daleks from Dalek Empire II by Big Finish
basically they are the Mirror Universe equivalent of our Daleks who uphold peace and order, but enforced that same peace and order with the same ruthlessness as our Daleks would conquer and destroy.

A-ha! Couldn't see this coming, eh?
Anyhow, I really wanted to draw more Thane stuff and this one is for the amazing creator of Resolution, :iconezri-krios: ! You're welcome ^^ !
I got this done pretty quickly :--D I think mostly because Photoshop didn't lag at all and this was a lot of fun to do! And as you can see, I can't draw trees... or shirts :'''D And Thane has those little , and a bit girly, hands... Can't draw them either !
And I think I'm getting better with the drells and coloring. So it's nice to see some progress too :--D

Merry Christmas for everyone! (:

Done in 2 days with Photoshop CS 6.

Under every of our newer pictures there is an option that allows you to download the larger version of the image for 0,10$ / 10 points - it's symbolic price and it would be nice if you used it, but don't feel obligated if don't feel like doing it.

Medium: Ink (Copic Multiliners 0.1, 0.05), watercolour, coffee
Size: A2

Finally done! This work was a commission for a friend, whose only direction was "your version of a world map". Initially I was planning a more abstract painting or drawing. But I really love ancient and medieval maps, the way they were so impossibly detailed and whimsical, often with huge sections of the world remaining mysteriously uncharted.

I did a lot of research, looking at what must have been hundreds of examples, all wildly different. I actually went to an exhibition of some of the world's greatest maps and was truly inspired there. What fascinated me most were the bizarre mythological creatures conveniently slotted into the unexplored waters, as well as the sometimes absurd surrounding detail and the "almost but not quite" shapes of the countries. They were generally pretty eccentric – much more interesting than our boring contemporary maps.

So I took all that away, and started thinking about mine. Because I could never just do a straightforward map, I decided to contextualize mine within a kind of hypothetical alternate history. I invented a language that seems to sit somewhere between Tolkien, Shaun Tan and astrological symbols. Unfortunately I don't have the skill to translate it. The idea was that this map was produced by an ancient extraterrestrial race with esoteric knowledge of the planets and stars. Perhaps they arrived on Earth travelling between dimensions, mapped what they saw and then left before they were able to finish.

I spent approximately 4 hours a day for a month on this map. I certainly didn't take the easy road and so it owned my life. But I'm really happy with how it turned out :) Hopefully it translates on screen.

~Simon

Hey all! The friendship contest has finally ended, and it is now time for voting. :eager: by darkmoon3636

We had a whopping 238 entries into the contest. Wow! I never expected such a huge response! I am so glad for all the entries and time/effort you all put into this contest. If you would like to see all the other submissions, please visit this folder. Because we had so many entries, I wanted the community help me decide the winners, so voting will be done by journal. La la la la

I will post a voting journal each day (yay for the new timed submit Giggle  ), each with 25 of the entries found from the folder above. Each journal will be up for a week (they will have their own specific end days/times listed on the journal). At the end of the voting process, the top winners from each journal will be posted as the semi finalists, and there will be one last voting session to determine the winners.

So how do you vote? All the entries will be numbered, so in the comments below the specific journal, list your top five entries, #1 being your top choice. Please base your picks off of how closely it relates to the theme of friendship, not necessarily the skill level. See the example below:

  1. #3
  2. #6
  3. #24
  4. #16
  5. #10

For the contestants: I don't mind if you tell your watchers about the voting journals, so long as you don't say "VOTE FOR ME I'M NUMBER 20". If you are found to be soliciting votes in any way, shape, or form, you will be disqualified and no longer able to enter any of my contests. So don't do it. Note that you can vote if you entered in the contest, but please do NOT vote for yourself. I will notice, I promise. :bucktooth:

Journal number one will be posted soon, so keep an eye out. If you have any questions or concerns, please note me, and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

Good luck!

Voting begins! Check out this journal to find out how to vote.

EDIT 03/07/13: Now also available in the official BBC Shop!

EDIT 01/26/13: Good news for those who have been asking about open-edition "The Roar of Our Stars"/"The Song of Your Sadness" prints! The two pieces have been licensed by the BBC and are now both available as official Doctor Who art prints!! Purchases can be made from Big Chief Studios Limited.

“Oh Amy, I hear the song of your sadness.”
“I’m not sad.”
“Then why are you crying?”
A painting I spent many, many hours Livestreaming, this is my tribute to the magnificent Amy Pond, who inspired Vincent van Gogh in her adventures with the Doctor. I hope if Amy stayed with Vincent longer he might've painted something like this - something that showed her inner sadness, something he could empathize with. This work is part of my official series of Doctor Who poster-paintings based on the newer seasons.

Little disclaimer! I researched van Gogh paintings like Starry Night and his Sunflowers series for this work, but I want to reiterate that I'm not claiming to be an Impressionist nor am I saying I am anywhere near as skilled as the great painter himself... this piece is a conceptual work, done with my own artistic style and choices with some influence that's meant to recall van Gogh's style. Reference from the episode "Vincent and the Doctor."

Please reblog instead of reposting on Tumblr! Thank you so much for your support and comments!
