I put quite a lot of work into this one, and I've got a story to go with it ^_^
I recommend downloading this one, it looks much better
This story involves Digimon, now to be clear I'm only using the characters for what they are, so this won't be entirely like the digimon series, it's going to be somewhat different.
Plus I'm only planning to take this story to at the most four or five parts.
Digimon is copyright Bandai and I do not own the digimon characters.
now that that is out of the way, on to the story
The Kitsune Renamon
Part 1 Snow, Ice and Goblins
"Five below freezing and snow in the middle of spring!?" it was nearly the end of May in London. Normally at this time of year the weather was warm and rain was usually expected.
But this year London was covered in a layer of snow and the temperature was dropping slightly everyday.
No one could explain it, but the weirdest thing about the weather was that it was only happening in London.
No where else in the country was experiencing anything unusual and it baffled the government experts.
"It doesn't make any sense!" a sixty year old scientist combed through his analysis documents and was typing on his computer.
He had shot gray hair, a fairly long beard and he had quite a thin build.
The old man sat working on his desk which was piled with numerous documents and printed sheets.
Suddenly a phone began ringing and the man hastily dug through his messy desk until he found the ringing device.
"Professor, the prime minister requests an update"
"I'm afraid we've made little progress"
"Professor Kaim, we have calculated that the temperature is still dropping. If you can't figure out what is causing this we will have to begin an evacuation of the city of London...and you know what the repercussions of that scenario will be"
"...I understand...Give me two days..."
"Very well, two days..." the phone clicked and the professor put the phone down.
"Granddad?" the professor turned to look back toward the door of his office. Standing in the doorway was a fourteen year old girl with short black hair.
She wore a black sweatshirt, a blue scarf, baggy jeans and black trainers.
"Hello June” he said with a tired smile.
“Granddad you’ve been working for twelve hours straight!” she complained as she entered the office “You’re going to make yourself ill if you keep this up”
The professor sighed and turned back to his work.
“I’m afraid I don’t have a choice, if we don’t find the cause of this phenomenon, we’ll have no choice but to evacuate London” he said grimly “and you know the kind of chaos that will bring”
“I understand that but…” suddenly a young man dashed into the room.
“Professor Kaim, You need to see this!” he said motioning for them to follow him.
They left the office and entered into a large room with dozens of computers and devices. The young man pointed to a thirty two inch flat screen TV attached to the wall and it showed a news report from Green Park.
Suddenly the screen went dead and the news announcer began apologizing for what they called a ‘Technical difficulty’
“They said something about people frozen!” said the young man.
“This must have something to do with what’s happening in this city” said Kaim worriedly.
“We should get down there then and see what we can find” said June enthusiastically.
“I agree, Green Park isn’t to far away so it won’t take long too long to get there” the professor told the young man to stay behind and monitor things there. Both June and the professor put on extra clothes to keep warm and then headed out.
“Are you sure that this isn’t just a costume or something?” Kai could hear voices around her and stirred uncomfortably when she felt a stick being poked into her side.
“Trust me I checked, it’s real!” Kai began to wake up and the poking stopped instantly.
“Hey it’s waking up, let get out of here!!” said one voice worriedly.
Kai opened her eyes and found herself lying in a small crater in the ground, her fur was slightly wet and she felt aches in her back.
She slowly got to her feet and stretched and she examined herself for injuries but thankfully it appeared she was fine.
Suddenly she heard whispering and she instinctively reached for her sheathed sword hanging from her side.
She leapt ten feet into the air clearing the crater and landed elegantly on a snow covered path with her sword unsheathed.
She found herself in a city park, everything was covered with snow but it wasn’t snowing right now.
Standing before her looking somewhat startled were two human reporters.
“Whoa did you see that!” said the first amazed.
“It just jumped almost five meters into the air!” said the other.
“What do you think it is?” asked the first reporter.
She stood about five and a half feet in height and had golden fur all over her body and white fur covering her belly.
A big tuft of white fur bloomed over her chest and her back, the two-fold-tomoe symbols adorned her thighs and she had a long scar over her right eye.
The only clothing she had was purple armguards with the Taoist Taijitu symbol on each and a belt which had a one handed sword scabbard attached.
“It looks like a…Kitsune” said the first reporter.
“You mean those mythical creatures, nah it can’t be!” he said unbelieving.
“That… is exactly what I am!” said Kai sternly and the two reporters jumped in surprise.
“Holy crap it talked!!”
“And SHE doesn’t like being referred to as IT!” she responded angrily.
“Whoa… we are going to be famous!” said the first reporter excitedly.
“Quick take a picture!” just as they reached for their cameras Kai vanished.
“Wha…wh-where did she go!!”
“You idiot you should have taken a picture when you had the chance!”
“ME!?” he exclaimed “What about you!?”
“Come on she must be around here somewhere, lets go!” the two reporters took off down the path and Kai quietly stepped out from behind a tree.
“What strange people these humans are…” she said curiously.
“Now… where am I and how did I get here?”
Meanwhile Professor Kaim and June had just entered Green Park but strangely it was quiet.
There were police vehicles and TV vans sitting derelict, and their owners were no where to be seen.
“Where is everybody?” said June worried.
“This isn’t right; I’m going to call…” Kaim pulled out his mobile phone but the screen was flashing on and off. “Damn, it must be broken!”
“Wait, mines doing the same…” the professor looked at his grand daughter’s phone and it too was flashing on and off.
“That can’t be a coincidence, there must be some kind of electronic interference” he said concerned.
Kaim decided to examine the TV van and found all of the electronics were also malfunctioning.
“What is going on here!?” said June confused.
“I don’t know… June I want you to head back and find a public phone to call the police” said Kaim.
“What about you?” she asked.
“I’m going to see if I can find anything to explain this, now go hurry” June walked off hurriedly but just as she was about the leave the Park a loud noise like that of cracking glass appeared somewhere in the park.
“What was that?” she wondered, June wanted to go and see what the noise she heard was.
But her grandfather had told her to contact the police. After a moment she decided to give in to her curiosity and go find the source of the noise she heard a few moments ago.
Kai made her way through the Park; passing snow covered trees and eventually found a sign post with a map on it.
“Green Park…London?” she said as she examined it.
“So I really have been transported to the human world…” she said as she confirmed her suspicions.
Kai turned away from the sign and drew her sword as she spotted something strange.
Poking out of the snow was chunks of blue ice and Kai knew what it meant. She cautiously approached them and looked closely into one of them.
Frozen within she found one of the reporters she had encountered before, his expression was one of pure terror and she knew it was too late for him.
“I’m sorry…” she spoke regretfully, she knew that these poor humans were all trapped in unmelting ice and there was nothing that could be done for them.
She carried on walking along the snow path and her ears suddenly moved to point upward.
Something was running this way and she quickly got out of sight and hid behind a large tree.
Quietly she watched as a young human girl came running frantically into view. She stopped a moment to catch her breath but then suddenly a flash of blue light landed near her and she jumped away as an explosion of ice erupted behind her.
The girl landed face down in the snow and Kai caught sight of a group of blue goblin like creatures pursuing the human girl.
“I knew this snow wasn’t natural, they’re here too” she said angrily.
June hit the snow hard, but as she tried to get up one of the five goblin monsters pinned her down with his foot grinning maliciously.
“Heh, you lasted longer than those other stupid humans, but we got ya!” he gloated.
“No human can best a Snowgoborimon!” yelled one of the goblins and the whole bunch cheered at this.
“Please…just let me go…please!” she pleaded but the Goblins simply laughed.
“Ha, put her up against the tree!” he commanded as he removed his foot from her back.
Two of the other goblins picked her up by the arms and restrained her against a nearby tree.
“What do you say boys, should we freeze her…bit by bit!” he said evilly, June had given up and simply let her head sag to the side as tears ran down her face.
Suddenly the goblin grunted loudly and June looked up at him. He wore a very shocked expression on his face and that’s when June noticed the tip of a blade poking out of his chest.
As the life left the goblin’s eyes his whole body turned to ice and as the blade was withdrawn from him the ice shattered.
That’s when June saw the fox like creature standing behind the pile of broken ice with a sword in hand.
“What the!?” said one of the goblins in shock.
The two who had been standing with the goblin who had just been killed brandished their clubs and one of the goblins holding June in place also stepped up to fight leaving the other to restrain her.
The Fox waited for them to make the first move and then all three charged at her.
What happened next was so fast that June could barely believe it, the Fox waited until the goblins were only centimeters away when she struck with three precise blows.
The three goblins staggered about for a moment before collapsing to the ground and also turned into shattered ice.
The Fox then turned her attention to the last goblin still holding June. He was shaking in fear and then suddenly he pushed June to the ground and ran for it.
June got back to her feet in time to watch as the Fox jumped high into the air and crossed her arms.
“Koyousetsu!” as she yelled this, dozens of glowing blades materialized in front of her. She then spread her arms wide and the blades launched at the fleeing Snowgoborimon.
The goblin was impaled all over his body and in a flash of white fire the blades exploded leaving nothing behind.
Kai landed gracefully as she finished off the last Snowgoborimon and she sheathed her sword.
With her enemies eliminated she turned her attention to the human girl who looked utterly terrified as she sat shaking in the snow.
“You need not fear me, I promise I will not harm you” Kai spoke in a comforting tone and the girl seemed to calm herself.
“Who…what are you?” she asked as she lifted herself to her feet.
“I am a Renamon, or what you humans call a Kitsune” Kai explained and the girl cautiously walked closer.
“You…You’re real, a real Kitsune…incredible” Said June as she stared in awe at Kai.
“I…I’m named June…what’s your name?” she asked a little nervous.
“My name is Kai” she replied.
“Well…Thanks for saving me Kai” she said smiling.
“You need not thank me, now I must go” she said as she turned to leave.
“Hey wait!” June yelled as she ran up to Kai’s side.
“Look I don’t know where you or those weird goblins came from but I know it’s not a coincidence that you and those things are here, and that this city is quite literally turning to ice at the same time!!” Kai halted in her tracks and turned to look at June.
“I don’t have all the answers you want, but I do know that those brutes who were chasing you before are working for the ones responsible for this weather” she explained.
“Then how do we fix this?” June asked and Kai chuckled slightly.
“WE don’t fix this…I do” she said and she turned to leave again but June ran in front of her and blocked her path.
“Wait a minute, I want to help!” June yelled and Kai smiled amused.
“And how exactly would a human help me?” she asked and June seemed to stumble her words.
“Can you fight, can you kill?” Kai asked as she glared at June.
June stared back at her looking defeated and she dropped her gaze to the floor miserably.
“Than you are of no use to me, you would only hinder my efforts” just as Kai was about to leave she quickly scooped up June in her arms and jumped high into the air.
A loud explosion was heard behind them and as they landed a few dozen yards away they saw a huge chunk of ice had formed where they had previously been standing.
“Dang ah missed!” Kai put June down and spotted a large figure approaching with heavy footsteps.
“Damn, that was a Hyogremon…June you must hide now and stay out of sight!” she ordered and June complied without question.
Kai drew her sword as the monster came into view. It was a huge blue ogre almost ten feet tall.
It had chunks of ice sticking out of it’s shoulders and had a huge icicle for a weapon. It was an ugly creature, but it was certainly very threatening.
“Ha! So one of ya managed to follow us here eh?” said the Ogre in a loud but deep voice.
“On the contrary, my arrival in this world was not of my making” she replied and the Ogre looked confused. Suddenly another figure appeared from behind the ogre, it was a short looking wizard in white clothing.
The wizard stood only a third of the ogre’s height and could have been mistaken for a child, he wore a white cloak that obscured most of his face.
He donned a wizard’s hat and he wielded a staff with snowflake shaped end.
“I’m guessing…” said the Wizard “that the spirits chose you to do their will”
“Stupid spirits!” said the ogre annoyed “why can’t they mind their own business!”
“It matters not, we can destroy one Renamon easily” said the Wizard maliciously as he held his staff up and it began to glow blue.
“I am the great Sorcermon Malchor!” he proclaimed.
“And I am the ruthless Hyogremon Grolk!” he yelled proudly.
“I will not fall by your hands!” Kai shouted as she prepared for battle.
The ogre made the first move and began by throwing his icicle club at her. Kai smashed the icicle with her sword and charged at the ogre.
“Ice illusion!” yelled Malchor and a beam of light blue energy fired from his staff.
Kai jumped to avoid the blast and landed next to Grolk who swiftly threw a punch but only hit the ground.
Kai darted to one side and jump kicked Grolk in the chest. Grolk flew backwards into a tree but he quickly regained his footing and advanced on her.
Grolk thrust his hand into the snow on the ground and the snow began to move toward his hand until it took shape and hardened into another large icicle.
June was watching the battle from behind a small mound of earth. Any one with an ounce of sense would have run away by now but June just couldn’t seem to take her eyes away from what was happening.
Grolk was swinging his Ice club at Kai who was dodging and deflecting his attacks. Suddenly Malchor launched an attack and using his staff he swung and knocked Kai’s sword out of her hands.
Kai’s sword ended up imbedded in the branch of a tree near where June was hiding.
Grolk took advantage of this and swiftly landed a blow to Kai’s head and sent her flying to the ground.
Her then picked her up by her neck and held her up high.
“You put up a good fight” said Grolk amused.
“A pity your time in this world was so short” said Malchor as he walked up beside Grolk.
Kai tried to loosen the ogre’s grip but Grolk just squeezed Kai’s neck harder at this point and she couldn’t breathe.
“Now hold her still Grolk, and I’ll make her into a nice frozen statue for the master” said Malchor as he took aim with his staff and it began to glow.
“Crystal Cloud…ARGGH!” Suddenly Malchor screamed in pain as June struck him in the back with a vertical slash of Kai’s sword.
Having already cast his spell Malchor’s attack fired but instead of hitting Kai it hit Grolk in the back of his head incasing it in ice.
Malchor dropped face down in the snow and Grolk instantly dropped Kai to the floor and stumbled about trying to break the ice on his head.
Kai coughed and gasped as she got to her feet and looked furiously at Grolk.
“My turn you son of a bitch!” Kai leapt high into the air once again.
“Koyousetsu!” Grolk finally managed to break the ice covering his head and then noticed Kai executing her attack.
“Oh…crap!” he said miserably and a split-second later his whole body was riddled with Kai’s glowing blades.
Grolk screamed in pain and then just like the goblins from before he turned to ice with an expression of pain permanently etched on his dead face.
Kai give a huge sigh of relief and gazed over at June who stood over Malchor with Kai’s blood stained sword.
June looked utterly baffled and in shock at what she just did until Kai spoke up.
“June… may I?” she asked motioning for her sword. June walked up to Kai and returned her sword. Without a word she quickly struck Grolk and smashed what was left of him to pieces.
June fell to her knees feeling sick from the events of this day and Kai knelt down next to her.
“I was wrong about you” she said smiling and June looked up at her.
“What do you mean?” she asked shaking slightly.
“You saved my life, perhaps you’re not as useless to me as I thought” she joked and June chuckled slightly.
“You miserable…little wretch!!” both June and Kai spun around to face Malchor who was apparently still alive but looked to be in a lot of pain.
His blood dripped from the wound on his back and coated the snow as he was holding himself up with his staff.
“To think I let a…pathetic human harm me!” he cursed in pain.
“Your friend didn’t fare well, and neither will you” said Kai as she pointed her sword at him.
“I would love to kill you now, but your human pet has left me with no choice but to retreat” Malchor spoke hatefully and before Kai could attack a cyclone of wind and snow enveloped him.
“Girl! I will make you pay for this!” Malchor’s voice echoed around them and then the cyclone vanished along with the wizard.
Everything went quiet and Kai sheathed her sword feeling that the threat for now was over.
“I suggest we leave, they will come back and in greater numbers” said Kai but June looked at her confused.
“Is there a problem?” Kai asked.
“I thought there was no WE in this?” said June frustrated and Kai laughed slightly.
“It would appear I cannot do this alone, and I do not know my way around this city” she admitted. “So if you have no objections I would accept your help…if you wish to offer it again” June stood there in thought for a moment and finally said-
“I want to help you” she said and Kai smiled.
“Excellent, now we should get moving”
“Wait!” said June suddenly “my Granddad came to Green Park with me, I need to find him”
“Very well, lead the way!” June took the lead and headed off running toward were she and her grandfather had arrived.
Soon they had made it back to the derelict vehicles and headed in the direction where June’s Grandfather had wandered off.
June gasped as they found dozens of people frozen in ice. June frantically searched each one to see if her grandfather was inside any of chucks of ice.
But then Kai found something.
“June over here!” she called and June ran over to her.
She gasped in terror as she found her grandfather lying on the floor with his eyes closed and his skin a pale blue.
“He’s not dead, but at this point that would be a mercy” said Kai as June put her head to his chest and could still hear a heartbeat.
“wha-“ she began trembling “what’s wrong with him!?”
“I’m afraid you’re Grandfather had the misfortune of meeting Malchor’s lord and master” she explained “while Malchor and others like him freeze humans to power the spell of winter that has been placed on this city, their master freezes the souls of his victims leaving them in this comatose state…frozen and never able to live nor die”
“Is there a way to cure him?” she asked with tears running down her face.
“No…the only way to break this curse is to destroy the one who cast it” said Kai.
“Granddad…I’m sorry I shouldn’t have left you alone…” she said sadly.
“If you had been with him…you would be sharing his fate right now” said Kai consolingly.
“We should leave, I’ll carry him and you lead the way” June nodded and Kai knelt down and carried Kaim as they headed out of the park.
Meanwhile hidden in a frozen underground chamber Malchor walked in painfully and knelt before an ice throne where a winged figure sat in the frozen darkness.
“Ugh…my lord” he spoke in pain. A heavy breathing was heard before the figure replied.
“You…have been injured?” he asked.
“Yes…my lord” Malchor answered embarrassed.
“By a human?” he asked and Malchor nodded.
“How is that possible, humans are substantially inferior to us!?” his voice was showing anger now.
“The human used a Renamon’s sword!!” Malchor yelled unable to bare the humiliation of it.
“A…Renamon?” he said suddenly very calm.
“Yes…it would appear that one of them has been brought here” Malchor explained and the figure stood up and walked forward.
The figure stepped out of the darkness and revealed himself. He stood as tall as Grolk and was white all over. He wore a white mask with horns protruding out of his head and white leggings. His arms were long with large hands and metal claws and his eyes were red.
The white demon walked up to Malchor, he placed a finger on his back and the wound closed and healed.
Malchor sighed in relief and smiled.
“Thank you my lord” he said gratefully.
“Now, I assume that since Grolk has not returned with you, that the Renamon you haven’t mentioned yet has killed him?” he asked knowing the answer.
“Yes master…” Malchor answered and expected anger, but instead the white demon laughed.
“So, the true battle has begun”
To be continued
