It is that time when you can post your thoughts or ideas about new Apophysis. Yes, it is under its way
Be warned though, the new major version number is not for nothing... Apophysis 3 will be a huge step forward.
The most important thing is it will support layers. Every layer can be a flame, a background,
a time-escaped fractal... and probably other types, too. A single design can have as many layers, as you can create.
Isn't it fascinating?
It's also one and the only moment when we can get rid of Delphi and scripting library - finally! It's in C++ with Qt4,
which means it's portable and relatively easy for other coders to mess with it as they like.
The main design is ready, skeleton code is up and running - now I ne

Global Warming +11Please see updates at the end of the journal.More Like This
I just finished reading the book COLLAPSE, How Societies Choose to Fail or Succed by Jared Diamond.
The book presents a detailed and sometimes tedious list of reasons for which some past societies have disappeared. A major reason, or in some cases the only reason, for that collapse is the mismanagement of ecological problems. Either the problem was neglected, or was discovered but not solved appropriately or solved with the wrong response.
We are generally well informed about global warming and probably tend to simplify the problem by taking just this issue. Al Gore's "The Inconvenient Truth" has contributed to clarify and spread this danger. However, the book in question identifies 12 major ecological problems, one of which is global warming.
As a very brief and biased summary of the book, I include below the list of the 12 problems.
1. Destruction of natural habitats.
2. Overuse of wild foods, especially fish.
3. Extermination of wild

My name's Thomas Ludwig, I'm a 28 year old graphics programmer living in UK/NZ. I work for Glare Technologies on Indigo Renderer, and recently also the fractal renderer Chaotica.
What is the first thing that makes you attracted to Fractal Art?
I first played with Fractint way back in the DOS days... colour cycling was one of the cooler things to do back then, but I didn't give much thought to the mathematical basis of these images. In 2003 or so I learnt about the flame fractal algorithm from Scott Draves' paper, and since then have been addicted to IFS fractals in general on a theoretical level. Purely

My Christmas Gift to You!More Like This
Merry Christmas, my dear friends!
I thought for this year's Christmas gift, I would create a sort of interactive poetry experience
Usually at Christmas time, I like to create individual gift's, though last year, I had a lot less friends, then I do now
The size of my friends list, has made this somewhat impractical, and I wish I had the time to make dozens of personal gifts
So, I had the idea of a poem for my friends, as a special gift from me to you, which won't be uploaded to DA, but will just remain here, in this special journal, which allows for the different format's, that I wanted to utilise and express within my work.
I've not made an interactive poem before, and I'm not sure how it will be received by everyone, though the previews I have seen, shows quite an interesting concept.
The poem reads alot like my other work, except for three instances, where I

The Serenely Powerful Art of `yuumei
In the top half of an hourglass, a polar bear and her cub perch perilously atop a wedge of melting ice, its dripping water becoming the "sand" that is inexorably drowning an urban couch potato figure in the hourglass's bottom chamber. The beautiful yet arresting digital painting is "Countdown" by yuumei and it is currently one of the most popular pieces on deviantART. It is "archetypal yuumei" in its perfectly balanced blending of a striking lyrically beautiful visual with an underlying urgent social or political message.
Her specialty is digital art in an anime style, but she often employs traditional watercolors and other elements. Her cause is saving and preserving what's left of the Earth's wildlife and its environment; she donates large portions of profits from her artworks to a host of wildlife and environmental organizations and urges all deviants and others to do the same. But what has really been her stand-out achievem

There was one specific case where a guy wanted to use my drawing as a book cover but didn't want to pay. He said he might print up to 50,000 books, so that's like an amazing offer of 50,000 views for me right? Wrong. 50,000 is nothing. We live in the information revolution. Back to Basics Photography - Understanding RawdSLR cameras and most bridge cameras have the option to shoot in raw, but what exactly is it and what are the benefits? Let me attempt to explain.More Like This
A camera raw file contains all the data that is captured when the shutter button is pressed whereas a JPEG is compressed and a lot of the data is lost. They are often called digital negatives as they serve the same purpose as the negatives in film photography; they are not ready to be used as the final image, but hold all the information and data needed to produce one. This all means that you are left with a higher image quality which also allows you to have more control and manipulate more parameters than a JPEG. All of the metadata is also still in tact, meaning that the original state can always be referred back to if needed.
So, surely you want to see the difference, right? Well you're in luck.

Holiday Card Project 2012More Like This
It's back! With the goal of bringing a little cheer to patients in the hospital during the holiday season, the deviantART Holiday Card Project connects deviants from around the world and applies their tremendous artistic abilities in designing and creating uplifting holiday cards.
In past years, the Project has received more than 5,000 cards sent in by more than 1,000 deviants from 50 different countries/political regions. Cards were then divvied up and distributed in-person by deviantART members to local Los Angeles, CA hospitals, with additional cards given to various hospitals in the U.S. and abroad for hospital staff members to hand out to patients.

I'm willing to do so, for nothing in return. Just note these few things:
1.) ALL of the renders will be 10,000 density, so if you don't like high quality, don't do it.
2.) They will be whatever size you ask me to make them, I don't care how many hours it takes [max three days].

So I love fanart. I think it's fun. I think it's a great way for someone to learn skills and build confidence in a relatively safe, amateur setting, but sometimes it's not sunshine and butterflies. Fanartists, because of the very visible yet niche nature of their work, are destined to encounter shitbags on the internet.
Since I've been sharing fan art online since 2002, I thought I'd type up some notes. This is just my experience/angle on things, so ymmv.
1. People will steal your art.
The difference between fanart and regular art is that it's recognizable by subject, and since you don't own the subject, everyone will assume they have the right to it. They'll put i
