Join a SOPA and PIPA debate What are SOPA and PIPA?
The United States Congress is proposing two laws that address the problem of wide-scale unlicensed distribution on the Internet of motion pictures, songs, trademarked goods, and patented pharmaceuticals.
One of the proposals is called SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) and would direct search engines in the United States to block Internet sites outside the United States that are primarily engaged in distributing unlicensed content.Another proposal called PIPA (Protect IP Act) would block websites located in the United States as well. The Obama administration is putting a stop to these proposals. It wants the Internet companies and the content companies to get together and come up with more functional and less destructive solutions.
Exploring Art 59: Treating yourself rightHey guys.More Like This
So, a few months ago I asked you all to tell me what you thought about your art. There were a few people who were happy about their art, but the overwhelming majority felt a sense of disappointment, frustration, upset. They were unhappy with their work.
That's a hard thing to feel, to be unhappy with the thing that you do out of love. I've felt that before so I know how crushing it can be and how hard it can be to pick yourself up and continue trying. One thing I noticed, when I feel that way, is that it's often born out of a lack of direction, and a lack of understanding of what I've done right in the past. It's so easy to see all the wrong choices you've made, we're practically hardwired to go 'oh god that was so awful'. The problem is, how can your artistic career (be it writing or drawing) grow into a beautiful tree, if you don't have faith in the roots that support it?
So I'd like you all to do a little exercise. I'd like you all to take a step back into your past, and p

Movie Review: FrozenThoughts after watching Frozen...More Like This
You know, I've had friends who are up and down across the board on this movie. Some love it, some hate it. I've read the reviews with people raging because of the homosexual agenda they see in it, to people upset about how it characterizes a specific culture in their characters.
I don't have a whole lot to say on those issues, in all honesty, because I didn't get any of those issues out of this movie (not to say people can't be upset about what they got from the movie. Absolutely, I just personally didn't get any of that from it, so I'm not going to defend or fight against any of that). I'll try to avoid spoilers but no promises.
I believe you take what you bring into a movie. That's how it is with any art form really, and for me I bring into this movie a world of mental illness and struggling to deal with hiding from people, being terrified of others. It hit pretty painfully home to me, the entire sequence of hiding away, bottling up emotions. Don't f

Sharing art from artists you like.I thought I'd talk a little about this, after reading a few people who were genuinely distressed and upset that their desire to share something they find beautiful was met with hostility from the artist. But the way this work was shared was... saving the artwork and then uploading it to their deviantart gallery/websites and they didn't understand WHY the artist was upset. I'm not sure I can fully clarify, but I can at least give my thoughts on it and things that I've gone through when dealing with people using my work without permission and hopefully that helps a little with understanding.More Like This

I find it amazing when a word comes up multiple times in one day from different people but referring to similar things. As what feels like usual, that wave of self doubt yesterday was followed by crippling uncertainty that I was a 'bad person', and then even more fears, and so on and so forth until I actually had a panic attack *while sedated with a sleeping pill* that lasted for 9 hours. I was by myself and had no way to get up, call for help (my phone is dead) or anything. So I just curled up in a ball and clung to Zeus and hopped my heart didn't explode. It was nine hours of pure hell and probably the worst I've felt in a long, long time.
So I called my therapist this morning.
He made some interesting commentary to me, and I have an appointment for next week before I leave with Sarah on our flight. But one of the things he talked about was the stability of my public platform, the importance of knowing *what* I stand for and think and wis

You should see my eyes light up every time a documentary about religion comes on the television. I devour books about other country's beliefs, and eat up all the stories and mythos that has made up mankind's view of the world.
I also understand that Atheism is a scary thing. When the world goes to shit, and everyone says 'keep the faith' or 'pray and you shall receive' or 'I'll pray for you'... it makes things worse in some ways because *you don't have that option*. So.. why am I finding this image with comments disabled? I am finding it because this person does not want to stand on their own two feet. They want, WANT, to be the cow in the herd. And they don't want to be called out. Well, I am calling you out. ART is not putting an artistic filter on an already taken photo (that was not taken by you) and then hitting it with a motion blur. ART is using your own mind, your own creativity, your own PASSION.

To answer that question, it is important to understand what rules apply and what intellectual property (IP) is.
There are three different kinds of IP that can apply here:

This means that if someone copies your art (by directly copying it, by tracing it or otherwise adapting your work) you can certainly take action, but there is little you can do to prevent someone else creating their own

So we're doing something new with featured artists! First of all, I've slightly changed up how I'm going to pick them. Since I want the members to actually benefit from this, I'll mostly be choosing from the people who I've seen commenting and submitting art over the time that I'm deciding who it'll be. And now, the featured artists don't just get a journal entry!
Every featured artist will be able to submit a few of their best works of art to the featured folder for everyone to see. So, this biweek's featured artists, when you see your names on here you can choose 3 or 4 of your best works to put them in that folder!

Fan Art Law
Mon Sep 10, 2012 by techgnotic
t seems there’s nothing quite as dear to the hearts of many of our deviants as their production of fan art, and at the same time, there is nothing so knotted with legal and ethical headaches. Imitation may be the sincerest form of flattery, but in the form of fan art it has also become one of the most frustratingly complicated. At some point, the sheer volume of fan art around a single property may become so large that the issue rises to another level of scrutiny by the creators of the original work.
With this dynamic in mind, we thought the following panel that Josh Wattles, our Advisor In Chief here at deviantART, and a mystery guest named Harold Smith, gave at Comic Con this year might be of immense help in understanding the ever evolving elements of fan art

1. What is your favorite OC you've ever created?
I don't know I have any original characters really suitable for this question, but I suppose my favorite character would probably be Doug Laisault, an alien creature who is called Lynopte but essentially a human on an alternate earth across the Milky Way galaxy. He is less developed than others in my Lone Soldier arc but the main character in the initial novella of the same title. This spawned the arc, which is now at more than one thousand single-spaced pages. He is reserved and I must say mysterious, but I like to think in possession of the same driving qualities I have: objectivity and diligence even in the face of awful luck. I at least have the awful luck

Despotism on the RiseI'll keep this short. The National Defense Authorization Act of 2012 passed (for whoever missed it), which means due process is gone. It'll be a while before the federal government starts rounding up people, but it is coming. Governments don't give themselves power without the intent- and often prepared plan- to make us of it. We can all be kidnapped or assassinated now, and it sha'n't be limited to a midnight raid on your home or a simple head shot. It could be anytime, anywhere, and in any way. It's been a while since I wrote about mental health. Maybe that's because I've been feeling great. When I did write about mental diseases, it was almost always bipolar disorder because that's what I know the most about. I'll give you a different point of view today, because if there is something I despise more than art theft, it's people accusing others of it. Anti art theft ninjas, also known as: people who have likely not had enough science in school. They often have no compelling evidence. They often have wrong evidence (even worse). They often do it on a whim, a feeling. And they rarely do it silently, rampaging publicly instead, thus driving a witch hunt.

Her cause is saving and preserving what's left of the Earth's wildlife and its environment; she donates large portions of profits from her artworks to a host of wildlife and environmental organizations and urges all deviants and others to do the same. But what has really been her stand-out achievem

If the subject is posed by the photographer, the body pulled and prodded into the desired angles,

In either case, posing or posed, there is undeniably something “false” in the representation.

As a Group, we encourage writers to explore their boundaries with prompts, collaborations and more, but we accept anyone and everyone too! Whether you are a digital artist, photographer, or something else entirely, if you can string six words together into a story, this is the place to be!
So getting to the point of this article, we are kickstarting this year with a six word story contest! We have some awesome prizes and hopefully enough freedom for you to enjoy yourselves too! Please support the contest and the article so that more can join in on the fun!
