Light streaks on this magical, mystical place of eerie light and crazy weather. A slightly different vantage point than my digital image posted earlier with some weather moving in on a Transient Light Workshop. I always wanted to go to Skye so a dream come true!

A surprise display of the northern lights, as seen from the edge of Highway 548 at Quebec Bay, roughly 50 km southeast of Sault Ste. Marie, ON. I normally monitor space weather conditions so I'm able to know when there will be a chance of seeing the northern lights, but this came as a complete surprise one night when I was already out shooting.

Taken autumn this year below the summit of Lindis Pass, New Zealand. I stayed about 2 days in this area - reading in my car or walking a little in the hills. I've captured this early in the morning past a rain shower which was necessary to darken the road. Even then to much cars drove over the pass. Whenever I had set up the tripod on the road I had to leave so I swore after the cars soon. ;) (Wink) If you ever will visit the summit of the pass I advice not to stay there just 2 minutes or even shorter, as many tourists do. There is a little hole in the fence - you should crawl through and walk up the hill - you will have a much better view, I promise!

I've been chasing a close-in presentation shot of Mt. Hood for the last few months... this might not be the final, but it's by far the strongest contender so far. The key is the clouds, which provide visual interest in the unavoidable negative space around the mountain. Also, what's Mt. Hood without its hat?

This is a photo from the early morning hours of November 9, 2013. I met up with Jeff Wallace at Elk Island National Park, and after he left, I stuck around for a bit. I was about to leave because the cloud was so thick, then noticed an opening to the North around 5:30am so I turned around at set up at this bend in the road.

Taken at an unnamed beach on the northeast shore of Lake Tahoe. This was during a tremendous windstorm where I took a chance the clouds would break up enough to display a nice sunset. What I got instead was a shrouded peek of what it looks like on the other side. The waves were pounding and the water was being picked up off the lake and spraying me. I spent the first half hour I was there wiping and defogging my lens. 450 second exposure 10 stop B+W neutral density filter at F11 and 100 iso, and composed with a prayer.

I named it "Hope" because despite the chaotic conditions that were present, you can a see break in the storm - sort of a "light at the end of the tunnel" - in this case, very colorful light, like seeing a rainbow at the end of a thunderstorm. It tells us that tomorrow is going to be a better day - that in all this chaos there is still Hope.

The Olympic Theatre
Vincenza, Italy
Designed by Andrea Palladio. On-stage tromp -l'oeil designed by Vicenzo Scamozzi.
Constructed during 1580-1585.
It's the oldest surviving stage set still in existence.

18 frame panorama (I only took the 35mm with me to that trip)

I'm in love with this place. It's just so awesome and they do this crazy light games with Pink Floyd music to entretain the tourist which was amazing-ly mental!!

Stelvio National Park, Italy
Autumn 2012

After numerous arduous hikes during the last 4 weeks I'm proud to present a lot of new work. I traveled through the Eastern Alps: from Switzerland to South Tyrol and the Dolomites to Slovenia. I'll upload them here on DA during the next days.

Part two of my Alp series 2012 contains the images from northern Italy. Where I shot the Stelvio National Park and the UNESCCO World Heritage Site Dolomites. At the middle of October the autumn was on it's peak and after some heavy snowfall till the valleys the landscape presents winterly. English descriptions and more shoots will follow soon!

On a still, clear dawn at Waterlook Bay, the elements aligned to allow this kind of image. In the distance, moonset occurred with sunrise which makes for fantastic long lens opportunities to capture the moon and foreground within the one exposure. After taking this shot, I switched lenses to focus on the moon.

Sunset at the lagoon of Jokulsarlon. The huge Vatnajökull glacier (the biggest icecap outside of the two poles) is in the background, and a branch of it comes down the valley here to the lagoon where icebergs calve off, float across the lagoon, and then eventually out to sea.
It's an amazing amazing place, I've never seen anything like it in my life. The sound of the ice creaking is astonishing.
The ice here is 1000 years old, apparently.

I have had many a walks up this mountain this season, and I have hoped to get some great aurora displays, tonight it came in full.
Had to stop several times to shoot as the aurora kept flaring up again and again, just beautiful to see.

Captured in Nordreisa, Troms, Northern Norway.

A looong walk through Bymarka with BlackMysticA... =) this photo was taken on the route from Storheia to Grųnlia. Lots of water, swamp and small rivers (River was following the rivers, oh yeah)

Browsing through my old vacation photos (work-avoiding-behaviour), I stumbled upon these beautiful pictures from Norway... and I thought... why did I only submit three of these beautiful pictures?!?
Here are the previous ones:
riverraven.deviantart.com/art/…
riverraven.deviantart.com/art/…
riverraven.deviantart.com/art/…

I also found some pictures from China, but they are qualitatively not as good as those from Norway, pity...
But gosh, I love the landscapes of Norway 8D I really hope to go on a road trip through Norway this summer (Oslo - Trondheim - Bergen).

Please do not copy or use without permission. If you want to use it as stock, please ask and show me the result afterwards =)

Big tree guarding the small one. :)

One of the last shots I did before packing up and going home, as the aurora is starting to fade away the camera is picking up more of the light pollution from below the mountain making some of the aurora catch this orange glow.

Captured ontop of Sųrkjosen mountain which lies in Nordreisa, Troms, Northern Norway.

Nikon D800, zeiss 15mm, F2.8, iso 1600, 10 seconds.
