Sergeant Severin Artanus advanced beneath the heavy tread of the Shootist combat walkers as he and his squad moved towards the purported enemy positions on the rocky outcropping ahead of them. The darkness around them was broken by the silvery light of the moon as it crept between the clouds overhead, casting the desert sands in shifting shades that played tricks on the eyes even through the green lit vision of his helmet.
“I don't like this.” Naomi muttered over the net. “Where are they?”
“Sat-recon says they're on that ridge line dead ahead.” Sevarin replied.
“So why aren't they shooting at us?” she retorted.
Gregori chuckled. “Don't encourage them shari, they'll shoot us when they're good and ready.”
“Cut the chatter,” Severain cut in before the pair could begin their usual bickering. “Eyes front and scanning quiaff?.”
“Aff,” they chorused.
Putting action to words, he triggered a thermal
