Most of us have a special part of our hearts set aside for our first times and new beginnings. I remember myself how I felt when I completed my first manipulation, when I read the first tutorial and above all when I upload my first deviation. These deviants are at this point when things seem so new, but are staring to fall into place. They will share with us their first impressions on DA's PM community.
What drove you to become an artist? What inspires you to create
Well everybody who knows me will tell you I was born an artist. I have been drawing and painting ever since I can remember. It's really just something I feel inside me, the one thing that is always certain in my life! Life inspires me. There are really
PE Photomanip: Let there be LIGHT!Light in PhotomanipulationMore Like This
Getting your light right when creating a photomanipulation sounds easy . . . until you sit down to try to do it! There are seemingly endless things to keep in mind: where the light source is, the intensity of the light, how pieces of your manipulation need to be composed so that they line up with the direction of the light in the piece, whether there could be multiple light sources, what color the light will be. . . .
And the goal for light in your manipulation is for the light to be consistent throughout so that it is telling a story. No pressure! It is not an overstatement to say that light will make or break your manipulation; I have declined many DD suggestions because of bad lighting.
Light can help you tell a story and is critical to your deviation. It adds emphasis, adds depth, contributes to realism, and draws the viewer's attention to where you want it to be

A tour in the world of Surreal Photomanipulations
For years, surreal photomanipulation and its artists have been showing a great variety of works in this style, surprising and inspiring to all of us with their images. If you already had the pleasure to see pieces of this genre, I´m sure you´ve been amazed with what a surreal piece can offer, but if you haven´t . . . what better time than this one to learn and see the incredible options this style have for you?
But first, the most important thing is to know what we are saying when we refer to a "surreal photomanipulation." To have a better understanding, let´s ask the most basic question . . .
What is a Surreal photomanip?
Surreal photomanipulations displays the mind and imagination of an artist and its unique way to represent that into the final work. These pieces can be really appealing to the eyes or disturbing. Subconscio
Photomanip PE: Conversation with ^ElandriaHappy Thursday, everyone!More Like This
You know, as photomanipulators, we rely pretty heavily on the stock and resources community, and the opposite is true as well. It is because of this symbiotic relationship that both communities flourish, growing and evolving off of each other. Because of stock artists here on dA and elsewhere, we are able to create our manipulations. Stock inspires us; it drives us to create by capturing in visual image format that which we envision in our minds. So, for our Project Educate week, I sat down to have a conversation with Elandria, one of our Community Volunteers (CVs) for stock and resources and a fantastic digital artist, who I am fortunate enough to call a friend as well as a colleague.
Here's how that conversation went!

PE Photomanip: Art with a ConceptWhat is Conceptual Art?More Like This
Answer: Conceptual art deals with ideas rather than with the final product. It is "art in which the idea behind a particular work, and the means of producing it, are more important than the finished work." http://dictionary.com
"Conceptual art is art in which the concept(s) or idea(s) involved in the work take precedence over traditional aesthetic and material concerns." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conceptual_art
Conceptual art, a movement conceived in the 1960s, stresses the artist's concept rather than the art object itself. Conceptual art grew out of minimalism and "turned the artist's thoughts and ideas themselves into the primary artistic medium, appealing to the spectator's intellect instead of emotions." http://www.reference.com/browse/conceptual+art?s=t
Conceptual art is often confused with Surreal and Abstract because often they have some of the same elements. However, Conceptual art differs from Surreal

How do we choose art for this group?Good question; how DO we pick the collages for our group?More Like This
It is probably a matter of individual taste, or individual aesthetics.
Lots of people don't like my work at all because they find it too busy, the colors are too bright, their eye does not know where to rest, ... OR they don't know why, but they just don't like it!
Their taste is simply not like mine.
I have learned to not take that as an affront or to get upset when I show my work to anyone, in person, or online. So there are groups that repeatedly decline my work.
So I look at their galleries again and see that I don't really care for their choices, they may be boring to me or even too "classic". Whatever the reason, I don't make things like the administrator likes.
So I leave the group, as you have done. It still is not a good feeling to most people to have their work declined. But by noticing that I must check again to see what that group was looking for ... does my work look like anything in their galleri

Son of Daedalus who dared to fly too near the sun on wings of feathers and wax. Daedalus had been imprisoned by King Minos of Crete within the walls of his own invention, the Labyrinth. But the great craftsman's genius would not suffer captivity. He made two pairs of wings by adhering feathers to a wooden frame with wax. Giving one pair to his son, he cautioned him that flying too near the sun would cause the wax to melt. But Icarus became ecstatic with the ability to fly and forgot hi

Writing Effective DialogueWe've all struggled through figuring out how to write dialogue that not only gets the information out there, but also helps build characters or advance the plot. There are tons of books and blogs out there on the topic, too. But just reading about it doesn't do much good if we're not ready to try it out. Give it a go and see what other people think. But let's start with the basics.More Like This
What is Effective Dialogue?
Dialogue that's written well will reveal character traits, add to the tension and suspense, helps cut down on text walls of description and of course, advances your plot. One of the most important things to keep in mind when you're writing dialogue is that in fiction, your reader doesn't want to read all the mundane things we say on a regular basis. So if it's not moving the plot or adding to your character's personality, you should think about cutting it completely.
What do I mean by reveals character traits?

Around 5 years ago, I joined deviantART as Uxiethecat. Boy was I an idiot. Then again, when you're young, you kind of do idiotic things. However, the only reason I had made a deviantART in the first place was under the persuasion of Runatone. I had originally made a YouTube account and expressed a love for drawing. She told me that if I did love drawing so much, then I could create a deviantART and post my art. That's exactly what I did, actually. The YouTube Account eventually became the name of my first deviantART. It was a deviantART I had grown to hate along with my YouTube channel. This hatred and shame started with my growing out of the sonic fandom. However, I had not taken action until then. I was originally a rather major part of the sonic fandom, on that account, then the Kingdom Hearts fandom, then the Yu-Gi-Oh! fandom. When I started to create origi

A Writer's Guide To The Second Draft
Oh noes. Let those be my first words in this tutorial. Now that I've gotten that out of my system, may I never mutilate the English language in that manner again. Welcome to my tutorial on the dreaded "Second Draft" of creative writing. If you've read my other tutorial (How to write - and love it), then you're well aware of why I call this the dreaded second draft, but if you haven't, then let me explain: I am a firm believer that all editing in creative writing should be left to the second draft. The first draft, should remain edit-free so as not to stem creativity.
Going into this tutorial, I am making the assumption that at this point, you have finished your first draft completely (from beginning to end) and now have a finished (albeit in need of editing) novel sitting in front of you. If you don't, don't worry, most of the information in this tutorial can still be applied. So, for those of you who haven't finishe
