It doesn't surprise him much when Steve stirs not too much later. It does startle him however, when Steve pulls his hand free and sits up with a groan.
"Lie down!" Pepper tells him sharply, coming awake to the sounds of pain. "What're you doing?"
"Need to sit up," he explains thickly. "Water?" he asks, "and ice, please." His voice sounds horrible, raw and it waves in and out.
"You sound like you're going through puberty," Tony informs him, finding a few more of the kind of ice pack that you crack in your hands to activate. There's probably some of the more typical kind that people keep in freezers lying around somewhere, but he doesn't know where. Allowing Pepper to help him out with the water and ice packs, Steve is starting to feel too alert to sleep constantly. Not to mention his body is screaming at him, telling him things are desperately, horribly wrong. "How're you doin' Buck?" he grates, trying to work for a more normal tone of voice.
Making a slight wheezing sound, Buck

Screaming hoarsely when he sees the woman set the saw to Steve's skin, he doesn't even realize when he's fractured his shoulder trying to shove through the metal, knuckles bloodied and broken. Then something rumbles through him and throws his body to the ground. Unable to see, there's smoke, and dust, and then a flash of light and then that sound again. The one that rolls through him and around him and cracks so loud it feels like the air is splitting. Renewing his efforts to get to Steve, to protect him from the new assault, he doesn't even register Thor, much less the other Avengers.
Battering his body over and over again against the door, he can't stop screaming. Steve is all he's had, all he's remembered. That laugh, those eyes, the way he smiles like Bucky is something special. He can't lose that, can't lose the one man that always believes in him and sees the best in him. Throwing himself i

Mr. Bruce just asked to adopt me.
"Yes please please" i said in a pleading voice.
"No!" Dig shouted. Wait why is my best friend rejecting me like this?
"Why?" I ask my eyes are getting watery.
"Um Bruce can we talk in the kitchen please?" He said quickly grabbing my potential fathers hand a leaving the room.
Shocked I just look up to Alfred with worry and doubt in my eyes.
"Don't worry miss. Young master dick is probably just being silly." Alfred said reassuringly.
We stopped in the kitchen. "Dick would you like to explain?" I questioned.
"If she's my sister then I can't marry her! Duh." He responded in a factly manner.oh so that's why he was more excited then a normal friend would be.
"Oh. Well would you rather have her put in an orphanage then kidnaped by the joker or would you rather have her safe and keep her protected?" Poor kid already has his first romance story.
"I promised to protect her and that's what I'm going to do." He said determined. That's my little wa

Carefully settling the supplies on his and Steve's bed, having finally convinced Bruce he has two hands, and one is undamaged, he fidgets. Steve isn't back yet. And he has no idea what to do with himself. So he goes back into the lab with one of the plastic bags from the art shop, and gathers up all the little clay animals. Not sure if he should throw them out, or what to do with them, he brings them up into the kitchen and arranges them like an army on the countertop. Bored with that, he shifts them around into different formations, unsure what the point of making them was.
Clint scares him half out of his mind when he approaches, clapping a hand on his shoulder without warning. About to put the other man into an arm bar, he winces when he tries to use his right hand. Of course. "Don't do that," he snaps. "I could have killed you!"
"You wouldn't," Clint t

How can you see into my eyes like open doors?
Leading you down into my core where I've become so numb
Without a soul my spirit's sleeping somewhere cold
Until you find it there and lead it back home
"Bucky, what's goin' on?" Steve asks gently, hands up until he gets to his partner and pulls him away from the wall. Gently taking his hand, he looks over the broken knuckles and fingers. "Bucky," he says gently.
"I don't want your compassion right now," he snaps.
"Then I won't give it to you," Steve tells him as coldly as he can muster. "C'mon."
"I don't want to go."
"Stop being a child," Steve snaps, fear making his face pale. "You need the bones set before you start healing and it heals wrong! The hell did you even hit the wall for, there's a punching bag right the fuck over th

He came in to the ballroom, just a crazy old man
And his eyes seemed to glaze in the light
He was just some old cowboy to judge by his rags
He'd rode in from the cold of the night
And the whole room was dancing - they paid him no mind
As he slipped to the bar and said will ya please be so kind
And the music kept ringing in the back of his mind
There's no telling what a love song can do
When he wakes up, aware someone is in the room with him, he tenses. It's her. She comes in often, his doctor. He's supposed to do whatever she says, however she says it. To respond in short, concise answers; one word if possible. She hasn't hurt him yet, like some of the others. But she will. They always do. Because they fear him. She doesn't seem to. Not yet. They usually come in near-pissing themselves, disgusting. She's different. He remembers that easily.
"Just wanted to check on your stitches," she smile
