The ‘Rio Arzazas‘ flows into countless cascades and waterfalls located in the Ordesa National Park which creates an idyllic setting. The picture shows the deep river valley at dawn right before sunrise. Both, little light and the starry sky convey a mystique atmosphere.

A long exposure shows the earth’s rotation in form of paths traced by the stars, except for the polar star that remains at its position because of its alignment with the earth’s axis of rotation. This photo was taken on a clear new moon night at the Praia da Ursa. The beach is located at the western tip of Europe and is permanently exposed to the ocean’s forces, reason for the constantly changing rock formations.

Sometimes you are lucky enough to find yourself in front of a scene that includes almost all of your obsessions; a beautifully built stone bridge, a double waterfall and a raging river running beneath it... copper-leafed trees framing it all...

And yet, after you have spent some time at that place, looking at it from all possible angles, trying to capture that wonderful puzzle, you realize you have fallen in love with just one piece of it.

Sometimes you find that one particular piece of the puzzle is much more important than the whole picture...

This was just a random shot in the same Botanic Garden, where Botanic Attack series took place. I think this looks pretty decent, even thou' again, it's the same cellphone camera ^^.

edit: Somehow the old upload was 1/2 the size of original photo. Don't know why. But now I retouched this up a bit and got this in it's 100% size. So now more print sizes are available :) .

For just a moment this past summer I was blessed to be able to visit the Grand Canyon. It truly does take your breath away the first time you see it. You're not prepared for just how vast it is. One day, perhaps, I'll get to go back. Until then, I'll keep living in the moment.

Another photo from my trip to Glacier National Park last August. When you enter the park at Many Glacier, one of the first things you will see is Lake Sherburne and the mountains to the west. Grinnell Point is near the center of the frame, with the Garden Wall / Continental Divide beyond it.

The water was completely still, so my girlfriend and I stopped to photograph it. While most people stood at the roadside, pointing their camera phones toward the beautiful scene, we took the short rocky walk down to the water's edge for a better (and less crowded) vantage point.

NOTE: When displayed at its default size, the photo may appear a bit "soft". FULL VIEW is highly recommended for better appreciation of detail.

(Nikon D90, Nikon 18-200 lens, circular polarizer, f/22, 1/1.3 seconds, Bogen/Manfrotto tripod)

FAIRYTALE SEA - Lofoten 2013

We had some really nice weather conditions as we reached Unstadvika. After an extensive outdoor-breakfast we packed our gear and went for a shooting. The clouds had a great color-tint. With the smooth rocks in the foreground, I quickly found a suitable contrast to the bizarre mountains in the background.

I have many shots from this trip but the simplicity of this shot (in the face of my increasingly expansive style) makes it one of my favorites. With the snow lit by the fast approaching dawn to the east and the western sky still in darkness there was a strong tonal contrast to work with. The clouds drifting around the moon broke up the sky with the moon itself providing the crucial focal point. The ripples in the snow created the effect of lapping waves which, I think, works particularly well in bringing a sense of motion to the image.

Finding sunlit snow formations was quite a difficult task. The easterly wind had ensured that it was mostly level or wet facing slopes that had interesting foregrounds. With a bit of hunting I found something worth capturing. The light only lasted a moment but it was sufficient to make this image looking across to Y Foel Goch.

Waterscapes
:iconeltasia:

Durin my trip on Quiberon Island I have discovered during the afternoon a small beach totally enclosed in a cliff landscape. The angle of the sun in the evening should be ideal then I came back at the sunset to shoot this waterscape. It was not easy to get down to the small beach cause the path was not accessible at high tide then I have decided to get there at low tide and wait for the water to mount. At high tide the beach was reduced to some meters. I was lucky at the end to find a way to get back on the cliff !
To realize this image I have shooted three different exposures for the beach, the sky and the cliffs.

Another shot from my dawn shoot at Long Reef the other day. This is a great location at low tide, as it provides lots of small pools of water that provide excellent reflections of the early morning sky. :)

My 100th deviation submission!

The Photo

Another shot from the session I did the other week on the South West coast of Portugal. This was the last shot of the night, 30 minutes after the sun had set...and I'm amazed it worked out to be honest..there was so much spray in the air that I didn't think it was worth trying anything longer than a couple of seconds.

On the last day of the southern glacier trek, we had to climb non stop for hours to get to the top of a mountain, where a lagoon and some ice caves awaited. This was arguably the hardest climb I've ever done, incredibly steep and rocky, with no possibility to walk on a sturdy surface. Add to that the facts that we were over 5600 meters above sea level (meaning very little oxygen) and that I had to carry my 10kg photo bag on my aching back, and conclude that it was really, really hard. 10 steps and a rest, another 10 steps and another rest :)
When the climb was over, we had the chance to witness and shoot some very beautiful spots, such as the turquoise lagoon shown here.
