EDIT 8.10.12
Thanks so much for the DD!

This is an Australian Raven chick. The eyes are not photoshopped, they are blue when the chick is young, then they get dark and finally go an almost white colour in the adult bird. Raven live predominantly in southern Australia. Crows are mostly found across northern Australia and have quite a different call.

Model used is the lovely :iconfetishfaerie-stock:---[link]

You may have to play with the shape, lighting, shadows, colors and such as it is a pretty flat image at first...lemme see what you can come up with! This will be the first of the mermaid series.

If used,

Hi, everyone.

I like Krita a lot and I would like to share something with the community of users.

I've done a compilation of the brushes that I usually use more frequently. Some of them are not created by me, just a little variation of some default presets. The inks and smudges are originals.

I tried to make beautiful icons like in MyPaint.

I hope you find this useful.

Getting started with Krita isn't too complicated: just start it up, select a brush preset and experiment away. A better understand of the interface will really improve your workflow though. I've added various tips that so-so artists (like me...) may find useful, but ultimately everyone will find his or her ideal workflow.

This tutorial is under a CC-0 / Public Domain license. :)

Big thanks to Claus for converting all these to a wiki format as well. Everybody is welcome to submit improvements, updates and translations to this wiki, so it may be more up-to-date. These tutorials were done with Krita 2.5.2 ~ 2.5.3. To my knowledge, Krita 2.6 should have a mostly similar interface.

Part 1 - Basics ( Wiki version )
- Symmetry mode, Interface, Quick overview of some brushes

Part 2 - Layers and Editing ( Wiki version )
- Layer management: alpha locking, layer mask and erase mode, filter brushes, masks and layers, local selections, clone layers, use recommendations

This is an update of an older deviation of mine. I wasn't sure how well this update would be received, so I decided to submit a new deviation.
The color scheme is more european compared to the original I guess. There are still things wrong with it, but I like the overall atmosphere much better. And I think the lighting is much more consistent in this version.
Thanks again for your critiques!

~Golden Phoenix~

I can finally tick this off the to do list:D

Made from gold card and hot glue with a little wire for support (body and wings) + bamboo for base.

It's soaring wings span approximately 30cm

What's funny is that I really suck at drawing wings yet I'm pretty happy how these ones turned out:)

Didn't really feel like adding lights this time round hehe

Hope you enjoy this as much as I enjoyed making it!

The smallest dragon I've made yet! This little guy stands at about 4.5 cm tall.

Every time I fail at making something small I try to remind myself not to bother next time. But it's always tempting to make cute little models:D

Amaterasu, Goddess of the Sun from the game Okami.

Made with different coloured/textured card and hot glue. I experimented with a different type of armature this time. Instead of having a wire 'skeleton' I scrunched up pieces of scrap paper to give the overall form and began building on top of it. I found this way better as you can see the final overall form instead of just a skeleton.

This model is about 23cm from head to tail. I removed the solar disk in the back view to expose the flowy hair (most fun part to make:D)

I couldn't find a good official group picture to reference, so I came up with my own poses. It was fun.

My biggest goal was to do a somewhat more realistic rendition of Leela and keep her good-looking. I kept her nose big, like Matt Groening himself insisted on the character designers!

Coloured with Copic Markers.

Ta-da! :D Finally! You peeps requested this, like, AGES ago, and here it is! Hope you learn something! Please don't be scared off by its length, I just talk a lot. ;P

I browsed a bit through dA and I couldn't find a tutorial on bird wings that really covered it ALL--from bones to wing shapes and feather groups. All the tuts I found seemed to assume that you were starting with some basic knowledge of how bird wings worked. I don't know if you are, so here's one that works from the ground up! :)

Yes, this is based off the tutorial style of the incomparable :iconalexds1: (Go read her tutorials on drawing humans; I promise you will learn something!) because I feel that it's a very clear and dynamic way to show people stuff. So yeah.

Other Stuff:
Interesting web sites, if you want to learn more:
[link] --Explore this site some--it has some really cool interactive stuff. Also that game! XD My bobolink always gets eaten halfway through.
[link] --some more in-depth stuff on the physics involved. :)
[link] --lots of info on wing shape and purpose!

Great reference books:
-Birds of Prey: Majestic Masters of the Skies by Paul D. Frost--glorious, two-page spreads full of raptor close-ups. :D My copy is much loved.
-Raptors of the World by James Ferguson-Lees and David A. Christie--what need I say?
-Reader's Digest Book of North American Birds -- beautifully illustrated, with cool tidbits of information about all the birds.

...and I don't want to hear that you don't have the money to buy books. Libraries need love too, and there is one near you--go get to know it! :D

All photos that are not from Wikipedia were taken by me. The canada goose picture was found here: [link] and the peregrine falcon here: [link] .

Phew. That was rather exhausting (and hopefully exhaustive! :D) so I hope you enjoy and appreciate! Wings are gorgeous; do them justice!

Also: :iconchezem: has a wonderful gallery full of images of birds in flight--go check it out, it's a great reference! :) Thanks to :iconankewehner: for suggesting it.

:EDIT: HOMFG A DD THANK YOU SO MUCH :iconchimeradragonfang: and :iconfantasystock: !!!!!!

Watchtower of the west. Llewellyn Encyclopedia tells us: The Great Western Quadrant of Water is the Watchtower that reflects images into our physical world—a region of strong creative life forces that gives rise to all living things—but not life itself. It is not the water we drink in the physical world. It is invisible. The Watchtower of Water is located on the astral plane and has astrological relationships with the planet Venus.

I was thinking very long time about making this piece. And now I really like it. I'd like to add three witches but they could be not visable very well.

Love is like the wind, your life is spinning just like spring has sprun, yet voices lie there, and sing the saddest song. lies lies lies. are what they seem to be, and you soon find out, there will never be a you and me.

Love is like the rain, it splashes down onto the ground in a gracelful way, some might say. It sings the tune, the tune of love, yet gets in peoples way, and seems to missbehave. What does this mean? Will I ever see the rain again? Or will I just be outside, burning with the pain?

Love is like the ocean, it moves swiftly, and never backs down. It twists and turns, but never stops. And always seems to make the mark. But as it sings, it leaves its ways. And parts into one, while the other goes away.
You must be dreamy for me to think.

Everything seems to fall, to the ground, soft and hard.
Strangled up in my feelings, I'm so confused, so confused.
I fall to the ground, on my knees.
These Tears I cry, fail my Heart.
Everytime I know to smile, its always fake, its always fake.

I can't choose now, its coming too close.
The winds have strengthend, and the stars are falling.
The whispers seem to fill the night,
the waters seem full of life.
Hearts are broken, children are playing.
This melody, is so un-willing.

Its far away, my laughter sings.
I see your face, and you've grown some wings.
Over and over again, lets play this Melody.
Starting from depression, over to serenity.
Over and over again, Scream your Love.
This way to live, is such a waste.
Stop the hate, Play the Laughter, Pause the Pain, I'm going Insane.
One of my poems I wrote. Its basically about going back to someone, even though they keep killing you.

:]. Hope you like it!
