The age of tank brigades storming across fields and deserts is over, ended by a glut of inexpensively equipped anti-tank soldiers and devastatingly precise attack helicopters. However, the tank still has its place protecting convoys and providing highly mobile artillery batteries. The T10 Charioteer, a design anonymously donated to the United Nations to aid in increasing global conflicts, has revitalized the proficiency of mechanized divisions.

Key Features:

Helmsman robotic torso commanded by a direct link to either the gunner or driver gives the crewman the impression of riding atop a vehicle completely under their control.

Roller detonates anti-armour mines before they are positioned under vulnerable components of the tank.

Fully automatic loading 130mm gun with a variety of task-specific rounds available.

160mm point of fire howitzer.

Additional boxes of reactive armour mounted on top of the tank's normal protection.

Another vehicle design for the Contact book, this time a main battle tank.
Started out with a handful of concept sketches, then created a mockup in 3D which really helps with perspective and general lighting. Good old painting for the rest and better part of the time from there. I'm liking this new vehicle process :)

Woot, super happy Contact mecha time!
Here's the Roach multi purpose combat drone. 4 all terrain wheeled legs and 2 manipulator arms give it great versatility in motion and interaction. A 25mm cannon provides threatening anti armor potential and a LMG allows it to hunt and suppress infantry.

Long time ago, I tryed to make a model of a very cool looking attack helicopter from the PATLABOR anime movie, but it failed.

In the last few weeks I attempt to work with new techniques and methodes. During my experiments, I found a awesome drawing of a unknown artist with these warmashine. Now I`ve had a good example to start with modeling.

The original designes have a few errors that I corrected. Especialy the rotor system wasnt correct. There was no tail rotor or a viewable NOTAR system (wich isnt good for a military helicopter). The coaxial main rotor is a complex system and the maintenance a difficult job, but this construction combined the best characteristics in speed, maneuverability and carrying capacity.

Other additions are different weapon systems (missiles and a working cannon construction), laser and radar sensors, fuel probe, GOC, PSC, C/F-E....

Enough talking. Enjoy.

Concept and idea

The AH21/B, codename "Seth", is the latest version of the ATH21/A "Khamsin". Both designs are based on two grand designs. The very first concept model is from the mechanical designer Shōji Kawamori, a Japanese anime creator, screenwriter and mechanical designer. His helicopter is known as the "AFH-02B Hellhound", which have his own role in the "Patlabor 2" movie. Second design is made by the digital artist Talros (Daniel Graffenberger), who gives the Hellhound a more modern look in his Patlabor tribute painting.
I have to thank these two artist again. They inspire me and push me forward to do this rework project.

Both helicopter models have its own assets and drawbacks. The original design have a very advantageous feature. It can fold the wings and rotorblades. That enables a transport in a special cargo container. The clearly viewable armament speaks for itself.

The Hellhound is a great looking design, but it have a few disadvantages and want to correct them and add improvements and upgrades. The obvious changes are the switch from a NOTAR-System to a Koaxial-Rotor. Why? Because you cannot autorotate with NOTAR Systems. Military Helicopter need this ability. Other changes: more hardpoints for armament, counter-measures, revolver-cannon, Low-Air-Speed-Data-Sensor, the engines, fuel-probe, real working landing gear, Cockpit etc...

I rebuild over 90% of the old model. That was necessary to give the whole model a more realistic look and a good clue to work with the right dimensions. More details in the discription.

Discription

The AH21/B, codename "SETH", is the latest version of the ATH21/A "Khamsin". The typename was changed, in consequence of the grown task profile, from a Anti Tank Helicopter, to a Attack Helicopter, which also fits his role for CP (Close Protection), CCA (Close Combat Attack) and LTPS (Long Term Patrol or Standby).

ASDS modified the frame to reduce the weight and improve the resistance through centrifugal forces during flight. Critical spots, like the new modular cockpit section, fuel tanks, main gear and engines, were reinforced with armor plates and special ballistic plastics. The MCS (Modular Cockpit Section) have a new armored frame. The windshields itself, resists projectiles up to 20mm and is vacuum-metalized with a nano-regulated amorphous alloy, that protects the pilot and weapon operator from a variety of laser beams and dazzle effects.

ANTARES equipped the SETH with a huge band width of counter measures and sensor phalanx. Active jammers, stealth hull protective-coating to reduce a successful radar lock on, CFES (Chaff/Flare-Ejector System) and six RALB-Detector Prism (Radar and Laser Beam). Two EEU (Electronic Eye Units) gives Pilot and Weapon Operator a 360° view around the helicopter. The ARRG (Active Radar Recon Gear) can be used to identify targets control non-autonomous guided Air to Air/Air to Ground-Missiles. ASDS added a new HSDM (Heat-Signature-Distortion-Module) at the engine exhaust.

ASDS also give the Bravo version new increased-power rated engines. This step was necessary to compensate deficits while using the CDFU (Cyclone Dust Filter Unit) or during high altitude missions. Nevertheless, the engines have enough power to transmit into the main gear, that drives the Coaxial-Rotor with all six SSP-Blades (Sub- and Supersonic Profile). Using a HiRCoR (High Rotation Speed Coaxial Rotor) was a courageous step, because of the high maintenance effort, but it also gives the SETH a unreached maneuverability for this helicopter class, very high takeoff weight and speed in each direction.

All high power-reserves have a price. To prevent the SETH getting out of fuel during longer operations or ferry flights, the helicopter is equipped with a fuel probe to dock on tankers. In addition to that, the ground crew can optionally mount one or two tanks instead of a effector pack at the inner hard points.

The AH21/B can carry and manage (without the main cannon) six, independent from each other, effector packs.
Available effector packs are MAAS-Dragonfly (2x per mounting bracket), 75mm MPR (38x per mounting bracket), MP-AA/AG-Swarmer (16x per mounting bracket), AG/AT-Missile (5x per mounting bracket).
Softwaremods at the MFCU (Main-Fire-control-Unit) allowing to use other effector packs

ASDS and ANTARES replaced the old 30mm rotary cannon through a new select-fire, dual-feed, 30mm Revolver Cannon (AtGRC30). That allows the Weapon-Operator to use two different ammunition types. Overall, the cannon is technically caused, lighter, service reduced and more accurate.

From Anno Astra...

Hovertank

A less sophisticated, older alternative to flowtanks, hovertanks possess similar offensive & defensive capabilities but have poorer speed, maneuverability and cross-country capability. Nevertheless, they retain certain attractive features, such as lower manufacturing and operational costs, and a lower technological base required to support them. These are due to several factors. Powerplants, for example, have a lower power-to-weight ratio and the lack of wing-in-ground-effect capabilities obviates the need for aerodynamic flight surfaces and the computing power needed to control them.

The depicted hovertank is an FMC Halvizard, named after a pseudoreptilian predator indigenous to the planet Grant. It follows the general layout of most hovertanks and flowtanks, with an unmanned, modular turret and a 2-man crew compartment occupying the rear of the hull. The main weapon is a 75mm coilgun with a secondary 15mm co-axial weapon. With the proper equipment, the main gun can be quickly reloaded by replacing the ammo cassette through the rear of the turret overhang. Recoil from the main gun is handled by a combination of vectored counterthrust from the tank’s propulsion system and an electromagnetic recoil buffer system.

The turret is thickly armoured along its frontal arc, although it does have a higher profile than many other tank turrets. As additional protection, the turret is liberally covered by appliqué armor plates of the passive type, a mix of composites and ablative material designed to absorb & dissipate directed-energy weapons fire. Defensive armament includes a 10mm coilgun repeater and a point-defense pulse laser. A mast-mounted sensor & countermeasures system is installed in a small turret mounted on the overhang.

The hull has thinner armour compared to the turret, in keeping with the prevalent tactical doctrine that tank crews should engage their opponents from a hull-down position as often as possible. Active defense arrays in the form of directional mines are attached around the perimeter of the hull, providing defense against threats such as ATGMs & infantry at very close ranges. The multilayered collapsible skirts are made of a tough, flexible ballistic polyamide and conceal the louvers in the plenum chamber through which vectored thrust can be directed. These are used mainly for hopping over obstacles up to about 2 meters in height. To cope with dusty conditions, filters have been installed over the air intakes in the bow of the hull—the air itself is drawn through a U-shaped passage in the armoured hull before reaching the drive fans.

This was done surprisingly quickly for me while waiting for the GL 27 sub to download. The turret design was based on an M-60's covered with ERA tiles.

these are different takes on a rifle for the "Soulja Boy" concept i did earlier.

he's supposed to be an expert marksmen that's been in it for a long time. an old pro.

i pretty much ignored any sort of functionality for now. i just wanted to concentrate on cool shapes and rhythms instead of getting bogged down with the how and the why. for me, that stuff is easier to work out with a rough model.

if i have time, I'd like to combine them and do a final one. maybe add some customization too (stickers, tape, paint, etc...).

perhaps his gun is the closest thing he's ever had to a daughter.

Another Star Trek fan commission for :iconmajordiarrhia: MajorDiarrhia

Light, fast, and cheap. This tank destroyer is given just enough armor to withstand light phaser fire, atmospheric entry, and sufficient shielding to take a single torpedo hit from a starship. Its impulse engines offer extreme maneuverability and speed in atmospheric flight. They are also less easily detected at long range than warp based systems, while being more easily detected at shorter ranges when at full output. A cloaking device makes up half the cost of the unit, and is the primary means of defense and of attack.

Armed with five weapons: its Bird of Prey derived anti-tank disruptor cannon, a chin mounted heavy disruptor for ground attack, a photon mortar for close in defense and non-line of sight attack, four surface-to-space mid-size photon torpedoes, and a sword wielded by an articulated arm.

A Star Trek fan commission for ~MajorDiarrhia

The Somme Class 'surface defense escort' is equivalent to the modern main battle tank, though it comes with some added features that make it far more versatile.
It's main gun is a torpedo launcher, giving it considerable punch right out of the gate. Several phaser arrays supplement this firepower.
Most systems come with considerable redundancy. Teleporter arrays on the front sides and rear top/bottom work in defense and offense. The front top and rear bottom hull feature a tractor beam for towing. Optical systems and sensor strips surround the craft providing the crew with full 360 degree vision and detection. With a pair of warp engines it can fly as a space craft and move at a limited warp speed.
Standard issue red stripes are proven to make it go faster.

The tank is a low poly WIP right now. I modeled it mainly just to practice some animation techniques on, but was bored and thought it might be fun to try to park it in my driveway. Just to clearify, the tank is 3D and the rest of the scene is a photograph of my house.
I realize the photorealism isn't perfect, considering there is no textures.
I think it might be a bit small too.

I'll probably be uploading a short animation soon as well.

More rpg stuff. This is one of the more serious forms of NPC that the players will be facing off against for a while, an Uhtek foot soldier. They have just made planetfall and are laying siege to the back-water world that the Players are currently on, but for what end? (mystery)

Wanted to make these guys look armored and grunged up a bit, as if they have been slogging through the dust and ash of the world for a few weeks. Still experimenting with a method of doing convincing dust... The astute viewer may also notice that this is a slight re-design of the guys from this piece [link] Changed the color of their armor to suit the enviro, and gave them a sort of disruptive camo pattern (which I totally fudged XD ) Still pretty happy with how this came out though.

Happy New Year!

And now, the first of this year's Anno Astra technical gobbledygook...

Vanguard Heavy Assault Hardsuit

Manufactured by Solstice Defense, the Model 80 ‘Vanguard’ is representative of heavy, unpowered hardsuits designed for mission profiles where protection for the wearer in a combat environment is the primary concern.

The Model 80 is a fully enclosed, NBC- and vacuum-rated suit of armour built mostly out of articulated rigid plates. The plates are a laminate of cermet composites and ablative materials built around a CNT core, sufficiently strong & thick enough to resist point-blank coilgun fire and anti-personnel laser pulses repeatedly before repair or replacement is required. A bodysuit, worn underneath the rigid plates, is woven out of ballistic polyamides mixed with a rapid-expansion silicate ablative that doubles as a shear-thickening fluid. This combination gives it dynamic/inertial armour properties, turning the bodysuit into an effective blunt trauma plate & anti-spall liner.

The main components of the life-support/temperature regulation system are integrated into the bodysuit. This gives the wearer a comfortable operating environment for up to 12 hours with the standard equipment fit. The helmet has an extensive battery of LOH-milspec sensors and enough built-in processing power to support a standard combat AI & present the wearer with a fully synthetic, real-time 3-D environment projected directly onto the wearer’s retinas. Also built into the helmet and cuirass pieces is a communications & telemetry suite, for secure inter- and intra-squad communications conforming to the most common standards.

All this comes at a price. While cheaper than a powered shell with similar features and protection levels, the suit’s mass, averaging at about 50 kg., makes it a burden for all but the strongest of Earth-standard ‘normals.’ In spite of being evenly distributed over the wearer’s body, the unsupported weight and added inertia makes it unwieldy & tiring to use for extended periods of time, causing a sharp drop in the wearer’s combat performance in as short a time as ten minutes. Because of these reasons, many feel that the lower costs do not justify the purchase of these suits in lieu of powered armor. Sales of these & similar suits have been brisk, though, in polities known to have aggressive, well-supported eugenics programs.
