Steve Jobs - Community Contest & Tribute:icontechgnotic:More Like This
A number of media outlets are closely monitoring the artistic response by our community to the death of Steve Jobs.
For me, Steve Jobs is an icon. The John Lennon of our time. And while his wife and children, as well as Apple and Pixar, are the landmarks of his life, Steve Jobs encapsulates the core values that have inspired a generation, separate from the images put forth by his companies.
It is his iconography that we as a community should come together and try our hands at capturing. No small feat, but it is precisely what I'd like to see us do. The iconography of Steve Jobs himself. Apple and Pixar and those types of images aside, Steve Jobs transcends these accomplishments through the meaning of his life's work, his vision, and the inspiration that he will continue to be to us all.
Iconography is the branch of art history which studies the identification, description, and the int

How To Sell Your Original PaintingsHow To Sell Your Original PaintingsMore Like This
In this article I will be discussing how to sell your original paintings. If your a artist you know how intimidating this can be when you've decided to venture into sales. It may even leave you with doubts about your own work, lower your confidence as a artist, and a bit fearful. Well have no fear! I have some tips from personal experience, as well as online references and advice from fellow artists that will help with your sales.
The First Step
Before we get into 'the meat' of things your very first step is Believe in yourself. Be confident about the accomplishments you've made. If your contemplating selling anything then you have to know you're good at what you do. Let that be your mantra as an artist. Understand that how you've acquired your skills, what you choose to paint, what your art looks like, and how
Don't Go to Art School (Response)https://medium.com/i-m-h-o/138c5efd45e9 <--- Read this, dudesMore Like This
I agree with this post but I've never told anyone to not to go to art school or university.
People ask me all the time what school do I go to (ALL THE TIME). I always respond "just a cheap state university", but it kinda of bugs when people want me to be specific when it really doesn't matter.
I don't like the bureaucratic system in my university. I think taking GE classes are a waste of time and should only count as electives. I hate how the university uses the horrible methods to teach us art since it never works. I hate how the Art Department does not offer a lot of classes compared to other departments.
I took over five Animation classes and none of them helped me. What helped me was studying from the "Preston Blair Animation book". I studied it on my own time when I was doing an internship in Florida (nothing to do with my career but it was fun).
I've seen students struggle because they were not taught properly how t
Daily Deviations: How to SuggestI constantly find that many deviants, new and otherwise, simply do not know how to suggest a Daily Deviation.More Like This
Just to make sure we are all on the same page here:
Info to Know
The only rule applied to Daily Deviations is that a deviant may not receive more than one Daily Deviation within a period of three months.
All deviants, regardless of popularity, are eligible to receive Daily Deviations.
Popular deviants are still deviants and will not be disqualified on the mere charge of being popular from receiving a Daily Deviation.
Any deviation may possibly receive a Daily Deviation.
This is regardless of the amount of views or favorites it has garnered.
You are ALLOWED to suggest YOURSELF. Just don't abuse this.
The following are not rules on how to suggest Daily Deviations but rather guidelines that help staff capable to select Daily Deviations better and more quickly process suggestions.

3. Give yourself a deadline and keep to it.

Getting into the creative industry (my experience)I've been getting questions about my job lately (mostly because of my previous journal), so I thought I should write a short summary about how I got into this business.More Like This
My current job:
I work in a branding consultant agency as a graphic designer. My job includes (but not limited to) creating visual identity for companies (logo, brochure, website, etc.), marketing tools (flyer, merchandising, calendar), copywriting, and occasional illustration. My clients range from restaurants, hotels, office buildings, golf club, pretty much anything.
How it began:
I studied visual communication design (2007-2011) in a university. While I learned a lot of useful skills there, what I value the most is the network I built there. I met some of the top people in the business and from associations / design activism groups. Throughout 2008-2011, I became a regular lecturer's assistant, and it really helped me to stay in touch with those people. Me and a few fellow assistants usually get import
Canvas sizes - inches and dpi and pixelsThis is a sort of guide on canvas sizes, inches, dpi and pixel x pixels.More Like This
when it came to canvas sizes, I always kind of assumed that inches belonged with dpi and pixels were just pixels and that everyone knew that; but i read a whole bunch of comments on a tumblr blog where someone asked about canvas sizes, and SO MANY people were replying with things such as, "4000x4000 px at 300 dpi" or "2000x2000 px at 200dpi".
and I guess not everyone quite understands what dpi's really used for xD.
DPI = Dots per Inch. It means how many dots will be printed per inch.
DPI is actually used for printing purposes. It shows the printer how much pixels to print per inch, literally. A common printer (at home or even at a lot of printing stores) at best prints at 150dpi most of the time actually; there are some super duper great printers that can print REALLY fine that can go up to ...apparently a lot more xD; #dpi, so that's why everyone usually suggests saving your project at 300dpi; most printers are f

This project is open for anyone who can create an emote or some sort of pixel art. The project challenges you to make piece representing a part of dA HQ. You can create something specific to a real-life member, such as an emoticon of Moonbeam13, or something abstract like a general emote member of the Help Desk. We're also looking for pixel furniture (think desks, chairs, sofas), art for the walls, and other fun stuff you might imagine in the HQ offices. The StaffAppreciation team has started things out, adding some rooms and props. It's up to you to help us complete the pic

Showcasing something you like about a staff member in particular, or about the staff as a whole.

Hello on behalf of StaffAppreciation! I would like to bring you news of a secret project we're organizing.
I can't tell you very much, though, because it's a surprise for the $taff of deviantART. Here's what I can tell you:
The project we have organized is a gift that will be given to the staff members of deviantART directly.
This project is open to everyone on deviantART, so be sure to spread the word! There is limited space available for this project.
You will need to sign up for this project. Please send a note to StaffAppreciation with the subject "Secret Project Signup". When your note is received, you will be added to a mailing list and be kept up-to-date via deviantART notes. If more notes are received than there is space, spots will be allotted according to time of reception of the note.
