This past weekend was spent exploring the Oregon Coast. This was our last stop on Sunday. The waterfall didn't have as much flow as I had hoped, so perhaps a return trip is in store at a wetter time of year. :D

I was lucky enough to make a trip up to the paria plateau with a few other photographers to photograph some passing storms. This was a location I had dreamed of photographing for a few years now and could barely contain my excitement on the drive in. Unless you know of this place, it's best to keep it relatively to yourself. After miles of 4x4 sand roads, you see a massive mound of sandstone signaling the arrival of the location. The light was beginning to break through the clouds and we witnessed some heavenly light at sunset. The following morning, myself and another photographer headed out in the dark to try some night photography. The skies here are some of the darkest I've ever seen, which doesn't surprise me with how remote it is here. After the stars disappeared a storm front moved in and provided us with some very dramatic skies before and after sunrise. I was attracted to the sandstone patterns here as the colors between the sky and landscape yielded some great photographic opportunities. I felt like a kid in a candy store. Every little corner of the stone offers fantastic photography. I was happy to have finally visited this location, and plan to return over the summer for some more dramatic weather.

This atmosphere was worth getting up also on feast by 5 o´clock in the morning. What a mood to start Father's Day .
As the sun was rising I already wanted to leave the location as suddenly this sick light emerged. The time window was only extremely short and I even had to give up my portrait, as the sun disappeared immediately behind the thick clouds.

Landscapes

Collection by
Torridon, UK
Winter 2012

With the aim of shooting some Scottish Landscapes in dynamic weather I started my trip to Great Britain in mid-November and traveled for about 5 weeks trough the country. My journey took me from the south coast of England via Northumberland to Scotland. In Scotland I traveled from the Isle of Skye to Caithness, Torridon and Assynt. As expected the weather conditions were very contrary (snow, sun, storm, rain). The exposed position at the Atlantic Ocean is responsible for the unpredictable weather in western Scotland. Often it’s possible to experience several seasons within one day. Although it often wasn’t very easy to keep my camera dry, I was rewarded with a variety of spectacular sunrises and sunsets.

In early December winter comes to northern Scotland. Ice covered the countless lakes and the frequently showers turn into snowfall. In the last part of my UK series I show the shots from Wester Ross. The photos were taken during several hikes in the spectacular mountainous regions An Teallach and Torridon. I'll upload them here on DA during the next days. English descriptions and more shoots will follow soon!

As down the glen one Easter morn
To a city fair rode I,
There armed lines of marching men
In squadrons passed me by.

No pipe did hum, no battle drum
Did sound its loud tattoo
But the Angelus' bells o'er the Liffey swells
Rang out in the foggy dew.

The bravest fell, and the requiem bell
Rang mournfully and clear
For those who died that Easter-tide
In the springing of the year.

While the world did gaze with deep amaze
At those fearless men but few
Who bore the fight that freedom's light
Might shine through the foggy dew...

There's many reasons why photographers wake up at ungodly hours to photograph a scenic be it the light, the color, the absolute tranquility of being there alone with nobody else around and then there is the whole experience of it all; seeing something which nobody else does. In many ways I think I am addicted to it all but one the things is certainly the experience of it and being able to click the shutter. I'm definitely a morning shooter as compared to an evening light sort of photographer. The air is so much more pure then with the lack of pollution not to mention you generally have nobody else around that can cause issues when photographing a landscape. It's hard to describe but there is a certain sort of tinge of freshness in the air then, it's invigorating. So it was on this morning when I was photographing Lake Ladora at Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge in Denver, Colorado. very chilly out to say the least but arms with gloves and a huge mug of coffee, I was ok mostly. I stood here photographing this as Coyotes were singing and howling literally over my right shoulder incredibly loud and I pondered and thought "wow, I am lucky!" Sometimes, it really is all about the experience.

In the second part of my UK-series 2013, I present the images of the Isle of Skye. The fascinating hills and the impressive coastline are typical for the Scottish landscape. The weather was as expected at the end of November – very rough. During my ten-day stay there was no day without rain and storm. But in the rare minutes when the sun showed the landscape turned into a fairy tale world and I was spectacular rewarded for the long rainy waiting times. I'll upload them here on DA during the next days. English descriptions and more shoots will follow soon!

After spending all of my first evening shooting this area, I kept shooting until the wee hours of the morning. This shot occurred before the full moon rose above the horizon and took away the clarity of the stars. This is a two shot blend. One is of the stars, the other of the foreground. For the foreground I used a headlamp to light paint for proper exposure. I tried to shoot a 35 min exposure, but it wasn't quite long enough. Also, the fact that there was another photographer there with me really limited the amount of times I could shoot that long of a shot without being in his way.

I've previsualized this shot for a long time and would love to redo it and better it. But I'm pretty pleased with this one for my first!

Lush forest path deep in the heart of the New England National Park, down Five Day Creek walking track, NSW Australia. I just loved hoe the sun filtered it's way through the canopy and illuminated this section on the forest floor, very magical and lush!

This picture was taken at the same time and, for sure, at the same place as this this photograph. Normally I doubt with me when it comes to upload a picture of the same place but I think this time it's worth of it (particularly because this is in landscape format). ;)

She has literally saved my life and has helped me save my beloved pet rat, and now she is in need of help. Here is the message from her: "I hate doing this, anyone who knows me knows I do.. but if anyone could chip in a little bit of cash for my dad to get a new motorbike i'd be eternally grateful. He's a hero and has been through hell and back recently - he's so depressed right now because his bike has been wrecked and I really just want to be able to fix this. Please find it in your heart to help me out, I don't have much money. http://widget.chipin.com/widget/id/83d734bb8bfb8bae Here's the link to chip in whatever you can. The amount equates to £3,000 which is how much I'd need to replace it. Please, even £1 is a help." She's a beautiful and selfless person and if you're going to donate money to any cause, I recommend donating

"My life is perfect
Because I accept it as it is
The sunshine is shining
Because it is what it is
What a beautiful feeling it's bringing
All the birds in the sky are singing

Eleutheria the fire is burning
Eleutheria the tables are turning

A new day is dawning
Because it is time for a change
with new consciousness forming
There comes a new day
Oh we got to keep on trying
When the children are cold and alone and are crying
You got to understand

Eleutheria the bells are ringing
Eleutheria the people are singing
Eleutheria people are yearning
Eleutheria this world keeps on turning"
