Chased by a dozen zombies and running so fast and so hard that it's hard to breathe, the sides start hurting and acheing. If it's not the loss of breath making it harder then it's the sides as they feel like they're getting tighter and tighter. The body is saying "Stop" but the brain is saying "Run". So now it's trying to stop for a few seconds before running for dear life again. Just keep running and running until seeing something, or someone. A hero maybe, dressed in a hood and gas mask? So, running for this "being", needing dear help, running faster and faster, just keep running until seeing this "person" is helping. A door is opened making it possible for both to run in. Both run in and the door closes as the whole body collapses, but it's not over. The door, a loud banging sound. Those zombies are banging into the door, trying to break it down. It's still not safe. There's a shuffle of clothes rubbing together and then look up to the hooded, gas wearing person, reaching forward with the palm open as if, silently saying, "Take my hand." - Thank you, blackdawn-70631
WWHAT? I wwasn't invited?! WHY DO I DRAW STUPID THINGS. LOL Anyway, yay karkat this is what you get for listening to John and his silly suggestions. This was so much fun to sketch *__* But i didn't know what to do when i got to the coloring part...orz THEREFORE, this shall forever be a wip. I'll just post the lame lineart here so that you can see better ;u; [link]
EDIT: Due to popular demand I re-named the tutorial more appropriately "How to Paint a Wolf".
EDIT 2: Fixed all known spelling mistakes.
A tutorial I pulled together of my last Wolf piece. I don't know if it will be of help or use to anyone, but there's no harm in making one anyway! Please bear in mind that this is the first time I've drawn something this furry this close up, so I'm sure there are other ways of doing this too.
If you have any problems with viewing the tutorial or any questions or problems in general, please let me know. I'll be happy to help as much as I can Other than that, hope you enjoy it and maybe even learn something from it!
NOTE: The tutorial explains functions and options available in Adobe Photoshop CS2. Any older or newer version of Photoshop should still work just as well. I have no experience in any other digital editing program (such as GIMP or Corel Painter) so I have no idea to what extent you can follow the tutorial there. If anything, it might just give you an idea of how to draw similarly, but you will have to find out on your own I'm afraid.
You are not authorised to redistribute this tutorial or the original image without my written permission, or claim as your own. Please respect my wishes.
Sorry it's so big, but you need to be able to read the text. Hopefully you only have to scroll in one direction. -_-;
Well, some of you might've noticed that I draw my characters in profile quite often. I do this because I'm not very confident with any other angle, and profiles=no need ffor symmetry, which I love. I'm trying to break the habit, though...
Anyway, someone asked for a tutorial on profiles, since I can do them decently consistently. So I did. You have much reading to do. Or just ignore it all and look at the pictures. I tried to make it interesting reading, at least.
On tutorials in general:I went to an animation program last summer in which we took daily life drawing classes. On the first day, we were told, "Remember how they taught you to draw systematically? How you start with an egg for a head and a box for a chest? Forget all of that. They were WRONG."
And he was right. When drawing from life DRAW WHAT YOU SEE. Every face is different. These guidelines are IDEAL proportions. Only use them when making people up from your head, and even then, be wary. They're not real. After all, what fun would it be if everyone looked the same?
Also, my style is very different from, say, Maki Murakami's. (I was up all night reading Gravitation volume 3. *heart*) Because of that, my profiles look distinctive. I encourage you to try my way first, if it helps, then find your OWN way of drawing profiles. Yay for uniqueness.
This little gem, as simple as it looks took AGES to do (maybe 12 hours?), I don't even know why I was doing it. I was drawing the graphics for my colorists' reference and thought, 'hey, most of the work is done now; I might as well make a tutorial!' Except I forgot I had to type about 3000 words of text... *cough* yeah that was a bit harder than I anticipated!
-But not impossible!- It was actually really easy to explain things and think up new ways to explain things so they could be easily understood... I guess I'm just random like that! (Or maybe, it's simply my background in writing educational material shining through XP) I'm also somewhat thorough by nature.
This tutorial is the simplest thing I can explain to you, 'cel-shading'- I would have called it 'cel-shading for dummies' but that suggests you're dumb, where-as you're more likely just new at it or don't do cartoons. Also it doesn't get much more complex than this.
I'm not going to do a full 'how to draw', not for free, like this, at least. As I said, writing a tutorial takes ages, and drawing is a -lot- more advanced than shading, if I were to explain it to you in this manner.
Anyway, have a read, and I hope you learn something. Remember to try out shading, but only on linearts you have the permission to use (most artists on dA will have a lot of uncolored work floating around and will be happy if you ask to color it) I drew an art specifically for trying out your shading skills on at [link] - (there are also a few Naruto linearts I allow to be colored in my gallery at [link][link] and [link] )
Anyway, tell me if you learn anything! (or simply enjoy reading it)
Anyway, hope this is useful The main thing to watch out for when shading long fur is knowing the different fur lengths and knowing how fur flows! To learn this, practice a lot by looking up photo references! Notice where it's short, medium, and long. Where it bunches up, where it's smooth, where it's shiny, etc!
so i wondered why everyone liked drawing everyone in hoodies so i tried it myself now i understand the allure look at these cozy lil babinos ahhh
"DAVE: you forgot the mayor DAVE: youre pretty damn tight with the mayor arent you KARKAT: THE MAYOR'S FRIENDSHIP IS A UNIVERSAL CONSTANT, AND I AM INSULTED BEYOND COMPREHENSION AS WELL AS MY CAPACITY TO VOMIT THAT YOU WOULD INSINUATE OTHERWISE. DAVE: yeah the mayor rules"
Trollcops! She is a girl with a nose for justice....I love that song. Very much. This is pretty big, an A3, and came out a bit more colorful than I thought it would. I guess that suits Terezi well. >:] Edit: I just had to fix what the scanner did to the colors, I forgot that. Sorry, I reposted it now ( three seconds after I originally submitted it X/ ) Homestuck belongs to Andrew Husiie
if you don't like WV we can't be friends sorry (my other fave characters are doc scratch, meenah, and karkat, but WV will forever be #1 mayor in my kokoro ok, if he isn't in an update soon I'm gonna go insane)
I've had this sketch lying around for months and wanted to finish it ok back 2 commissions
took a break from drawing and sketched something dunno why but i felt like sketching dirk then, for some reason, i never drew the outline for his shirt when i got to the neck and then this happened.... so here! have a shirtless dirk for no reason whatsoever :I
Edit: I think it's sweet and all with all the printrequests this gets, but I can't agree to it, it's not my characters and I haven't got an OK from Hussie to sell stuff ( yes I did ask but I never got an answer) so no, that won't happen, sorry for that!
ok, so this is what I've spent two weeks doing, or more like 50-55 hours spread out over two weeks ._. and then I'm not counting all the countless hours spent to look up referances, finding the right comic pages, looking at small details etc etc
so.... yeah! ...uhhh...Homestuck-tribute anyone? I got the idea to do this when I made the poll asking about if you would mind me posting HS-related art or not and people asked me to draw some characters, and I was like "I MIGHT AS WELL DRAW ALL OF THEM FOR YOU! >:C...waaait....BAD IDEA!! D:" and as the idea wouldn't leave my mind I did exactly that ._.
HOPE YOU'RE HAPPY NOW!
oh! I just remembered what I was supposed to write! for convinience sake I put the read team on the left and the blue team on the right, also the characters/creatures/things that belongs to the kids game/world are to the right, and everyone belonging to the trolls game/world are to the left
(I love you for making me get this idea, it was so much fun to do <3<3<3)
and as usual, it's ALL done traditionally using markers, mostly copic sketch but also copic ciao, ordinary copic, promarkers and prismamarkers!

why do I keep drawing blood... just the idea of them actually have different blood color catches my attention, even if karkat has normal red blood like us, we're all lowbloods... :I
