I'm really starting to enjoy painting the big cat portraits so here's another one. This cheetah is painted the same way as the Jaguar and Snow Bengal. I was fortunate to find some awesome cheetah reference online, including a few good orthographic pictures, which helped with determining proportions.

as with most of my animal art, this was painted in Photoshop.

This is my part of a collaboration between me and art director/photographer/film maker Lasse Hoile, who will include it in a design for a CD artwork.

"Evil Smiles Of Beauty" by Marco Minnemann, out since January 2012, including an altered version of this artwork. Go and buy it. Go!

Acrylic on paper, A4 size.

...and before you all point it out, yes, I know the front teeth are not as they would be on a real wolf, it's a requested exaggeration to make this fluff ball look more aggressive & dangerous.

Happy howl to where ever you are

For the new card deck: The Endangered Ark which will be released for sale in April. A percentage of all proceeds will be donated to animal conservation groups.

The Queen of Diamonds : Spotted Owl

The Northern Spotted Owl, which ranges from Northern California up into Canada, is not yet endangered, but is considered 'vulnerable'. This means that if numbers continue to decline they will become endangered. Though there is an estimated 3-5 thousand pairs left in the wild, less than 100 birds remain in the wild in Canada.

The decline of these birds is caused by a number of factors. One of which includes predation by larger Great Horned Owls, and being pushed out of their habitat by the more adaptive Barred Owl.

By far though the largest contributor to decline in these birds is the loss of appropriate habitat. They are territorial and do not take well to disturbances or fragmentation of their territory (such as logging, new roads, and human development).

A great deal of controversy surrounds this owl, which has unwittingly been sucked into the drama of the logging industry (which could stand to loose up to 168,000 jobs) vs. environmentalists that are trying to protect the owl and its natural habitat.

Painted entirely with Oil Pastels in Corel Painter. Special thanks to everyone that watched me paint this live!

Did a quick watercolor based on the color of the eye.
- The part that has all the detail is the iris -the rest may look crappy but the iris had the most time spend on.

INFO ABOUT THE ANIMAL:

Name: Sumatran tiger (Panthera tigris sumatrae)
Location: Sumatra
Size: 1,8 m long body + 0,8 m tail, 0,9 m high weight: 180 kg
Diet: deers, boars, elks, birds, tapirs
Conservation status: Critically Endangered
Interesting facts: Sumatran tigers do not live in groups. Every tiger has its own territory and cats meet only to mate. Only female then take care of 2-4 kittens. Father does not look after his babies. Other males can kill the cubs, so mother must be very careful and she looks for her cubs until they are 2 years old | Sumatran tiger is the smallestt of all tiger subspecies | there are only some 400 - 600 Sumatran tigers living in the wild | Sumatran tigers swim very well and fast | they are threatened by hunters who kill them for their amazing wonderful fur
