its not been for a VERY long time that I have worked on a grey background. Makes a change from my usual oversaturated black backgrounded deskies.
weeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!! I had so much FUN creating this!!! I'm going through a phase of really wanted to explore exactly what my design skills mean to me and exactly how far I push myself. Creating this image I took the unusal stance (for me) of starting with a plan and working from that as opposed to just letting it happen. Also I wanted something relatively simple so really tried to keep things down to a few layers and only a little 2D to compliment.
This may well be a little more 'old skool' than modern because I went back to some fairly early designs I did a while back. But it works so nicely on my desktop I'm really pleased with the end results.

Mesh produced and rendered in 3D Studio Max, Brushwork in Illustrator and Photoshop. All mixed with a bucket load of giggles.
this piece is a combination of photo manip and 3d. i actually started this quite a few months ago but just re-opened it today to finish it on my new 20" widescreen monitor.
this is the first widescreen release from me. expect all future releases to be in widescreen and also keep your eyes on endeffect as i will be implementing a widescreen portion into the gallery. most of my past wallpapers will be getting the widescreen treatment (that is quite a few... well over 130!)
for all other resolutions use the following links until i get endeffect updated:
ok here it is - my first 1600x1200-wallpaper! it was a great fun to do this piece cause i tested some new effects and techniques and the large size gave me more free space. i decided to start more complicated wallpapers with depth in them and a lot of effects, of course. the rendering-time was about 40 minutes! but i think it was it worth. i'm very satisfied with this creation. hope ya'll like it..
I left, out of Tucson, with no destination in mind.
I was runnin' from trouble and the jail-term the Judge had in mind.
And the border meant freedom, a new life, romance,
And that's why I thought I should go,
And start my life over on the seashores of old Mexico.
An interesting piece from me, not my norm. I'm in almost completely new territory for me. Thats the new life, the freedom, cause I'm runnin from the angry mob of watchers who think I should make more 3d stuff.
On a more serious note, I always hear how clear the seashores of Mexico are, which is what I made this one about.
"Meanwhile Lampetie went straight off to the god of the sun, Helios, and told him we had been killing his cows, where on he flew into a great rage, and said to the immortals, 'Zeus, and all you other gods who live in everlasting bliss, I must have vengeance on the crew of Odysseus' ship, they have had the insolence to kill my cows, which were the one thing I loved to look upon, whether I was going up heaven or down again. If they do not square accounts with me about my cows, I will go down to Hades and shine there among the dead.'Sun,' said Zeus, 'go on shining upon us gods and upon mankind over the fruitful earth. I will shiver their ship into little pieces with a bolt of white lightning as soon as they get out to sea."
What would have became of the place if Zeus had not struck the ship with a lightning bolt? What would have been Helios' Fury?

Hey, yes I know this has been done a hundred times before on dA, but I just wanted to give it a go and here is my interpretation of a well known concept.
Wow, thankyou one and all, I am totally overwhelmed by the response to this 5000, and 38,000 views in 36 hours! I wanted to write a response to all your comments and favs but this is just unrealisetic to do individually so thankyou all for your kind words and support.
As I said in the original description, this concept is an old one, I have seen it in non-descript books before and with red filters. We were talking about lighting and depth of field in my photography course I have started so I thought what the heck and had a go at this. I was presently suprised and proud of the results so I put them on my humble gallery (490 PV and 9 watchers). Next morning I had 2,300 favs and this has since increased to where we are now so thankyou for the support. Personally I think the reason for its success was two fold, the lack of peoples knowledge of the concept (that a heart could be made from a circular object) and the interpretations people have drawn from it.
Comments include: - Wow I didn't know that would happen - I love how you have placed it next to heartless in the dictionary - Omg, wow! That's oddly deep for something so simple... - so boring. you've done nothing different here at all - Makes me think of divorce, or infedelity... - I thought it was a wedding band in a bible at first glance. Come to find out it's next to the definition of heartless. Seems like an appropriate photo to share with my ex-fiance - I think it's beautiful but it also seems very sad to me. ;; Heartless... - It's so simple but yet so complex. congratulations - I like how the shadow of the ring forms the heart and the line on the book divides it. it's somewhat haunting.... it shows the feeling of loss and dissapointment of a break-up. - The use of a ring, like a wedding ring is so thoughtful. You assume it's romantic until you read the book text, nice twist - In terms of originality, your usage of the particular definitions is admirable, but misleading in terms of the composition; there is a HUGE juxtaoposition between the symbolic "endless love" that is represented by a ring, but, as I know...a ring is just a ring, not love. - Ring representing the union of love and creating a heart next to the definition of hearltess gives me the impression that someone was dumped by someone they love and calling him or her hearless for doing it. It just makes me think of the conflicting feelings after a breakup that the two parties feel, one heartless and cold the other loving and betrayed. I think the owner of the ring was the one that was dumped and their ring shows how they still feel about the other person, but at the same time is bitter shown by looking up hearless to describe how they think the other person is. Very powerful!
Heh, I'll leave to to your own interpretations, I only take the pics Hope you all enjoy, and that those of you that don't can understand I haven't ripped this off someone else, I know about the diff variations and attempted something different (to my mind anyway)
