another ice flower blooms during a freezing late january winter storm here in the rocky mountain desert.

if you look closely, you can see the random face in the flower. it just appeared on the render. reflections can do some of the strangest things sometimes.

With 13,000 new deviants joining deviantART each day, we want to ensure everyone's user experience is seamless. A common question from new and old deviants alike is: "What do username symbols mean?" Over the years, as we’ve surveyed deviants, we’ve found that very few understand symbols.

As part of our ongoing process to make the user experience cleaner and more intuitive, we've launched a new set of username symbols designed to help easily identify deviant-types.

Easily Identifiable

At a glance, the new symbols are quickly recognizable. When hovering over a username symbol, a tooltip appears, providing a brief explanation of that user's deviant-type. If clicked, a modal appears, giving a brief explanation for each username symbol, with "Learn more" links that lead to more detailed explanations.

A word from Heidi:

Over the years, a few things have come to seem like deviantART mainstays. Deviant green, intricate art categorization, colorful avatars, symbols next to usernames. In our constant re-evaluation of what's best for longtime deviants and new users alike, we do sometimes need to stop and ask ourselves if a makeover for some aspect isn't overdue. Changing username symbols was one of the harder things we evaluated.

I've been testing the new symbols for a few months now, and while I love its sleekness, its clear message, I do occasionally find myself missing my old symbol. Symbols have permeated into deviants’ minds, made their way into works of art, and sometimes defined how deviants thought of their front-facing persona on the site. But I can honestly say in good faith, I think this new design will permeate the community just as the original system did. It beautifully aligns with the design direction we’ll be traveling moving forward, and, perhaps best of all, it doesn't require insider knowledge for understanding.

I invite you all to memorialize the old symbols and commemorate their meaning from ages past in any expression that inspires you. But I know these new symbols will usher in a new era with just as much meaning and visual attachment as ever.

Heidi, VP of Marketing

Looking Ahead

We appreciate that the previous username symbols have a long history and have become ingrained in the deviantART community, and we want to assure the community that this change was not one that was made lightly. Many factors were taken into consideration, most notably that removal of the old symbols allows us to implement more technological advancements in the future, including Mentions. Given time, it’s our hope that the new username symbols will become an emblem of deviantART culture.

As part of our ongoing process to make the user experience cleaner and more intuitive, we've launched a new set of username symbols designed to help easily identify deviant-types.

Tutorial for

First tutorial in a long time. People asked how I did this and HERE YA GO. Please note that there really is no RIGHT WAY to create a fake anime screenshot. You'll need to observe, OBSERVE, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, OBSERVE.

This is merely my method of how I render fake screenshots, so please feel free to mess around with whatever tips I give you in here.

Got any more questions? See some typos? Are things here just as confusing as figuring out how Frosty the Snowman came to life? Please ask and I'll try to give you the best answer and fix mistakes the best I can. C8 Thanks for coming!

This week ( 17th to 24th November) all profits from these brush collections are going to Philippines Disaster charities

This demonstrates my second Major collection of Manga Studio v5 brushes and is now available to download at this link ...sellfy.com/p/fKjD/

Included with the pack is also a free set of automated actions for Manga Studio.. that do such things as convert photographs to semi-art that can then be better incorporated into painting...And color filters that can be used in a similar way to Photoshop Gradient Maps.  Also automates my technique for simulating Photoshops Color Blend mode.. I have also written and included a quick user guide to range of color painting techniques in Manga Studio

Click the image on this page to see a bigger preview of the set of brushes. There are new watercolour, oil, and speedpainting brushes . there are a large number of colour special effects brushes, blenders, dodge and burn tools and a set of digital pencils and airbrushes. 118 brushes and tools in all of which only about 20 have been previously available for Manga Studio 5 ( and those downloads are now  withdrawn).

There is a  small paypal fee to download the brushes. After many thousands of happy free downloads of my Manga Studio brushes ( e.g. check this one  fav.me/d3kvhjv  for proof) , why is there now a small charge ?
1)  This is a much, much larger collection than I ( or anyone else) has provided... it took months of work to create ... it greatly exceeds the number and range of brushes that come with Manga studio
2)  I have previously provided free brushes in the same way that Photoshop brushes are often shared freely... but this is not photoshop and there are hardly any free brushes available, and none that I would wish to download as fair exchange within a generous community.   Either people don't know how to build interesting quality brushes or they are keeping them to themselves.
3)  I believe my two collections  double the power and range of Manga Studio   ( they certainly do for me)  . In fact I now only use 3 default manga studio brushes .  Many of them are also designed to be highly efficient and less laggy than default brushes
4) The only other major creator of Manga Studio brushes  (Frenden) has been charging a similar fee for his brushes for some time now.  The 888toto collections however contain much larger sets of brushes and resources.

I hope you like the collection - download it from   sellfy.com/p/fKjD/
.... I have noted that nearly everyone who has downloaded one of my collections has gone on to later download the other one.  The other one can be previewed at this link  fav.me/d6l8ikp

So after about a week I finally got this into a fairly showable state.
There's actually a whole lot of work left, but I need to get working on some overdue projects now.

The video that basically jumpstarted the thing www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rl50al…
Music courtesy of DJ SOZ3 www.youtube.com/watch?v=4_xkqT…

*EDIT* removed a fairly game breaking bug where the game just stopped counting points.

The finished product!
11x17, watercolor, 4 hours

I took the liberty of doing something with the bubble...I just never got to it - blegh. Didn't look right with it, or without it.

Crafting is one of the most diverse skill in Runescape. From gem cutting, jewelry making, glass blowing and many more.

The fanart features a master crafter (tattoo) holding a chisel in her left hand, cutting an onyx gem to its finest grade after testing it on a pile of dragonstone gems!!!

On her work bench, there's an amulet mould, decorated cooking urn, glass orb, black dragon hide (and a needle), gold bars, silver bars and a ball of wool.

In the background is a combined furnace/ pottery oven. (Since modern technology has allowed us to change the temperature quite easily >.<)
