Color version of previous. Fun with waves and sunset. Good to be shooting again :) Yes...it was a bit scary with the waves rolling in. At least the water is warm ;)

"Where Kings Bathed"

I love this spot and for some reason I've never actually photographed it. Was on a photo tour with a client and after getting him set up got a chance to set the shot and wait for an incoming set. The sun slipped behind a cloud but with all that was going on everything was illuminated well. 3stop Reverse GND was used to control the sky and tiny bit of blend for the rocks on the left to soften the grad line.

Thanks!

Looking up while having a party with friends the sky was brilliant. So hurried around Hanalei Bay to the pier to work on my idea. I used my car lights to illuminate the pier and took 2 horizontal shots to get the full view in. The mist from the 20ft surf caught the light and added some nice atmosphere.

From my outing about a week ago. Took about 4 keepers. This was the last of the evening as the magenta afterglow lingered. One of my favorite times to shoot. Liked the play of textures here. Comp doesnt feel exactly right but leave it to you all to let me know.

Thanks!

More fun with holding the camera stupid close to the water and moving it out of the way. Definitely makes me want a water housing. Not sure if these are sticking around for the portfolio but fun to share some experiments :)

"Adieu"

It's always good to have spots in one's mind that we can run to close by for sunrise and sunsets. I am extraordinarily lucky that this is that close to my house. Some friends asked me to head down here for sunset about 20 min before the sun was to depart so hurrying to the trail and mostly running/sliding down it, got down to the bottom and was greeted by this scene.

From a technical standpoint these shots are always tricky. Camera's are not good at capturing the range of light in scenes like this. The main exposure is taken with a 3stop Reverse GND to control the light but that leaves us with an ugly dark line across the landscape in this case so I took 2 other exposures to be able to blend it away. Then the normal dodge/burn.

Oh yea...then the sunset went cotton candy nuclear. More soon!

Thanks!

Conscious Projections...

Humans wandering in the background, heading towards the sun.
The debris of Earth, scattered around the landscape.
An infinite light, permeating all living things.
A conscious projection of the struggle to find piece amidst chaos.
Believing everyone guides and is guided beyond what is known,
and that there´s something bigger lying ahead...

Sometimes you are lucky enough to find yourself in front of a scene that includes almost all of your obsessions; a beautifully built stone bridge, a double waterfall and a raging river running beneath it... copper-leafed trees framing it all...

And yet, after you have spent some time at that place, looking at it from all possible angles, trying to capture that wonderful puzzle, you realize you have fallen in love with just one piece of it.

Sometimes you find that one particular piece of the puzzle is much more important than the whole picture...

"Oceans XVI" (unreleased)

The quality of light this day at Polihale was simply incredible. Rare storm clouds built out in the distance late morning. The intense dark clouds acted as an incredible contrast to the illuminated waters closer to shore. I then abstracted them in the camera and ended up with a couple of good results. This is one. Much thanks!

This is probably the most photograph sandstone structure inside Lower Antelope Canyon. It is definitely the same angle as others. But because of the beauty of sandstone I couldn't resist to capture one for my own. This was done by HDR merging of 7 bracketing shots covering 6-stop exposures.

Canon EOS 6D | EF 24-105 f/4L @ 24mm | 1/4s, 1/40s | f/11 | ISO 100

An image from my WV trip back at the beginning of June. Woke up quite early to head down to Bear Rocks at Dolly Sods to capture the sunrise.

In what appeared to just be my luck that weekend, I was greeted with ok light. Ok, but not great. I was hoping as well for some fog down in the valley, but was again greeted with mostly mist. Not wanting to waste the opportunity, I began to shoot anyways and snapped off a bunch of images and have been rather happy with the results.

Processing on the images from that morning has proven rather difficult though. The color palette offered by this place is very difficult to translate into an image and I have found my images from that morning just looking a bit off in terms of color. I will probably continue to attempt to process a few more of these as I have a bunch with the sun below the clouds illuminating the mist in the valley to a wonderful shade of pink.

In the meantime, please enjoy this image!
