After doing my small "basic drawing guide session" on livestream
[link] I've been noted with questions about how I learned to draw face angles. Well first of all PRACTICE and observe a lot! But in this short tutorial I've pointed a few things which made drawing face angles way easier for me :> I am very sorry for my english though C_C Im sure there are some stupid mistakes but I hope You will understand what I meant :D

So good luck and I hope It will be helpful!
This is my OC Kerin~

Some arms desuuuuuu...:icondeyedplz:

Muscly man arms that is! I need to draw more feminine arms >.> I draw arms a lot don't I?

Just mentioning the red outlined drawing aren't muscle structure, they are just the shapes I use to plan the arm. Like I said in my other tips sheets, dividing anatomy up into shapes makes it much easier to draw consistently ;) Using a reference doesn't hurt either. Studying from real life is the best way to set a foundation for anatomy, then simplifying it into what ever style you like.

Drawing lips tips!

I usually find it easier to get them aligned when I match the cupids bow to the bottom of the nose ^^ ( refer to the lower left corner)

More step by steps too! Once you know the shape of the mouth and lips its easy to apply it to any face angle.

You may use/edit/reference these without any prior permission. All my tips/tutorial sheets are for public use ;) all I ask for is you have fun learning!

This is a challenge and an exercise that I find incredibly helpful when hashing out a new character. It's good to have nearby when doing your panels and you're thinking, "Damn, what does So-and-so's nose do in this expression?" Or maybe your drawing isn't consistent and you want to keep a certain look? Catalogue them on this sheet first and keep it nearby for easy reference!

I'd be more than happy to see filled out sheets in other people's devs! Let me know if you do post it cause I'd like to see it!

EDIT: Fixed typo, took away 'surprised' and replaced it with 'tired', then added 'surprised' to 'shocked'. I want to thank the forum folk at girl-wonder.org for the suggested changes!

EDIT the 2nd: WOW. This thing has taken off! I will read all your comments eventually, it'll just take me some time!

The Tutorial that this exercise sheet goes with. Enjoy!

Another writing meme from me, because there just aren't enough out there. This one is done in a drill sargeant style...stripping your character down, giving them a buzz cut, and making you look at their personality and their lives rather than their outward stuff.

Just because I mention Mary-Sues, don't think it has to be just for that. It'll work with any character.

Remember it's all in fun, and hopefully will make you think differently about your character.

Please let me know if you do it, or even if you think you might do it.

Character Meme

Just link back to the original if you use it, but mostly have fun! This is to help people realize possible design flaws if your characters are too similar. I highly recommend challenging yourself with this one! Choose characters that you think are very similar to better help you understand where you might need help. See if your viewers can guess your character within the first half! Don't rely on eyes, and hair to differentiate your characters!! Make every subtle nuance unique! This applies for all styles! You can't tell me "But I draw humans, or anime." Look at any GOOD anime character designs and you'll see that you can fill this out for them too! Some good examples to use this meme on for preexisting characters: Cruela Devil, Jafar, Facilier, Cowboy Bebop cast, any of Hanna Barbera's characters or any pre 90s toon, Batman villains, etc.

If you post a link to your meme, I may not respond. I hope you don't find that rude, I just can't check them all I'm afraid, but feel free to post it for others' reference n.n

Yeah I have not idea what to put this under so yeah -__-

A MEME FOR YOU!! Cause Iím doped up on caffeine again and Iím supposed to get up at the butt crack of dawn and go to the State Fair and eat deep fried Twinkies and Oreos and pop-tarts and whatever artery clogging insanity my country seems to think is a good idea.

Though I refuse to eat deep fried chocolate covered bacon. I draw the line there. Some things not even chocolate can make taste better. *shudders*

This started off as I doodle then I decided I needed to share my stupid with the WORLD!!! AHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA!!!

Do it.

*warning I usually work in 300 pixel n 30x60 inches so this stuff is huge. I down sized this for any one who wants to download. If it's still to big let me know and I'll fix it*

READ BELOW IF YOU WANT ONE OF THE OLDER VERSIONS OF THIS.

Something not particularily artsy, but..

I've found these memes kind of fun to do when I don't feel like making a serious drawing so I decided to make one, myself. I don't think this has been done for pokemon yet.

You can find lists of pokemon by type on sites like Serebii.net www.serebii.net or Bulbapedia bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wik….

----------

Update - June 15, 2013: I've redesigned this to accommodate the new Fairy type! I went with three per row because that can be done evenly now. If you prefer the old meme design you can download it below..

Update - October 2010: Old news, but this meme got way more popular than I had expected. I guess people like drawing their favourite pokemon. I'm really glad you're all enjoying it so much.

I've updated the meme to look a little better, it's a bit larger now as well.

CURRENT VERSION ALTS:

ORIGINAL:

----------

FAQ:

Can I do this on paper/print it?
Yup! There's a printer version just above for that reason.

I can't draw, can I use sprites instead?
It kind of defeats the purpose (draw your favourites), but I won't stop you.

How do I save it?
If you want actual size, hit the "Download" button on the right, then right click and save the image. If you're getting one of the alternative versions listed above, then click those links and again, right click and save (or print for the printer version).

I like the idea of this meme, can I make a "Favourite _____ Meme" or "Least Favourite _____ Meme"?
Sure, I'm not planning try and monopolize the idea. :P

How do I do this meme?
You'll either have to save it and open it in a drawing program that can read PNG files (MS Paint, Adobe Photoshop, GIMP, etc) or print it, draw it by hand, and then take a picture of it or scan it using a scanner. If you can't open PNGs, you can try the printer version (which is a GIF), though as a warning it's huge.

Can I fill out this meme more than once (by different generations, need to update, etc)?
Of course!

Hay someone should do an Arceus version olol
..Not exactly a question, but this has been done. :P

Edit: Thank you everyone, once again, for filling in the colour scheme challenge meme and showing such an interest. I'm glad you're all having fun with this!

I searched dA for a meme like this but couldn't find one, so I made one myself! :eager:

The rules are simple, just do a painting/drawing in each of the boxes using only the colours specified.

Obviously this is more suited to digital art, but there's nothing to say a traditional artist couldn't do it. As long as the colours are similar, I guess.

I recommend downloading the huge version, it's easier to fill in.

I originally made this to help fellow artists to return to an old piece they have done and recreate it again in their styles of today. It's a way to get in-touch with your nostalgia, your past. To bring that old friend back you wondered "Maybe I should draw them all over again" and find yourself stuck and never get to that desire. Well, here's your chance. Find that piece that inspired you back then and bring it back to life. Show the world that every artist can change their style! Even if we all start out drawing Japanese inspired cartoons, or mere stick figures, or even use the Sonic style of work. Show us, and yourself, that you're more and you have proof.

Anyone is welcome to use this meme.

You're also welcome to change up the resolution to fit your fancy, just remember to link back to the original so people can decide to take part in this meme.

RULES:
-REMEMBER TO LINK BACK TO ORIGINAL.
-ONLY POST ON THIS. (comment section of this meme, meaning don't post on my front page or through notes.)
-HAVE QUESTIONS? ASK, I WILL TRY TO ANSWER.
-DON'T LIKE THE PLACEMENT OF CERTAIN THINGS? YOU HAVE MY PERMISSION TO CHANGE IT.

----If anyone is willing to make a tutorial on the 'How-To-Incorperate-Images-onto-Meme' of this, that would be greatly appreciated.

(Revised description)

Wow, you guys. I'm so proud of you all, every last one of you.
And I am so flattered by the group that was just made for this meme.

Please link back to this if you use it, so that other artists may find it.

anatomy lesson one: Studies of the Skull and Pelvis.
(dA should have an anatomy section for the catagories D: . no idea where to put this v_v~)

seriously kids, you should know this stuff xD; especially the pelvis -_-;~ i'm still having trouble placing the protruding bone of pelvis in life-drawing sometimes...D:

anyways, for life-drawing class. no idea what mark i'd get, but bahh, i hate getting marks D:~~

took around three hours to draw each study/view with 2B, 4B and 6B graphite pencils. i actually did the vertabrates and scapula views too, but...uh...i don't like them as much as i do this, since they only took 30min per views xDD;;;

study your bone structures when drawing humans, kids~! xDD lol, something i should say to myself ;_;~~..... lol, still have lots of homework, but currently procrastinating D:~~ to hell with perspective homeworkkk!!! x_x;;

ps. yes, you can use this as a reference lol~~ this is why i put this in that section <3~~ use it to your heart's content <3~~

Edit: whoot, i got a good mark on this <3 xD

Reblog on my Tumblr

I've seen a lot of eye tuts on dA...at least, what seems like tutorials, but a lot of them are simply either step-by-step or just a bunch of different styles of eyes in different angles. None of them really explain how the eyes look the way it does, why the eyelids casts that shadow on the eyeballs, etc. At least, none that I've seen :)

I hope this gives you guys a more in-depth look to the human eye and the structure surrounding it. This actually took quite a long time, so i hope you guys like it :). Rendering the eyes took a LOT longer than simply sketching them D;.

If you have any more questions, feel free to ask :).

here's the step-by-step put into gif so it's easier to see:

here are the skull studies I did back a few years ago:

I put some anime eyes in the references too, hope you guys don't mind, hahaha.

ps. i put it in traditional art catagory because it's the only one with the subsection "anatomy" in it. I'm not sure why digital art can't teach anatomy either, but you'll have to ask dA about that. xD;;.

PPS: I did this in Painttool SAI

Hey guys, I did this a couple years back in when I went to the†academy of art university and since you guys seem to like my anatomy stuff, I thought Ill hook guys up with more :D I have a lot of human stuff and horses, dog and an elephant... yup

Sooooo I hope this helps out someone, I tell most beginning artists a good place to start is with learning how to convey form and have a good understand the superficial muscle groups. It helped me out a ton

I hope you dig it :)

A redux of the previous study on Serratus Anterior. It was hastily drawn up that time and I have been wanting to do a neater version since then.

I have Burne Hogarth's book on Dynamic Anatomy for years. Only recently I started reading in details. :P To correctly place the Serratus Anterior, imagine a line starting at the pit of the neck, 45 degree down, past the nipple and there you have it.

The maximum number of Serratus slots a human can have is six but that 6th slot is only visible when the arms are raised. In drawing, it makes sense to stick to 5 slots or less. In reality, this particular muscle group are hard to build and most guys have to work really hard (and must be very lean) to have all 5 of their Serratus Anterior show up.

After quite a few years of creating characters for my fan fiction and other stories, I decided it was time to put together my own "Ultimate" character sheet. I know some people HATE things like this, and think they're time wasters. I, however, find that these sheets often give me some very interesting insights into my characters that I wouldn't have considered without a sheet like this. So hopefully others out there will find this as useful as I do. I've tried to add explanations of things as prompts for what to write where. However, if anything is still unclear, please let me know and I'll do my best to re-clarify whatever you're unsure about.

With that said, I will also admit that while I'd like this sheet to be all-inclusive, it really only relates to the characters I've made in the past (or that I'm currently working on). So, if you have any suggestions for questions that should be addressed, added to, etc. please let me know and I'll see about getting it updated (with a credit to you, of course.) :aww:

Also, and more importantly, there's NOTHING that says you have to complete this ENTIRE form. If there are sections that don't jive with your character, then just delete them. For example, if your character hasn't been in school in 50 years and there's NOTHING in the story that pertains to that part of their life, then rather than plodding through answering questions that don't really matter, just delete them. You certainly won't hurt my feelings. :) On the flip side of that, sometimes, at least for me, it's the unexpected/random/seemingly unnecessary questions that make me think more deeply about what my character's all about. So, maybe you'd prefer to do the 'plodding', and that's perfectly okay, too.

Something else - my fan fic ideas are generally pretty epic (regarding length/timeline) - usually spanning decades. Obviously a character's information can change from one decade to another. So, what I generally tend to do is answer based off of when and where the story starts - not when and where it ends. If I think/know that future information needs to be (or should be) included, then I do so at the end. Thus, the reason that I've added those specific last two questions to every section of the character sheet.

As a final note - this sheet is technically comprised of a multitude of other character sheets that I've accumulated over the years + my own personal ideas. I have added, re-grouped, and rearranged things in a way that better suits my needs. If you see something that seems "stolen" from another sheet, then I deeply apologize. :( Just let me know and I'll be more than happy to give credit where it's due or (if you really insist) I'll remove those sections/questions from this public document.

Also, if you use this and post it somewhere, please give me credit and, if you have time, drop me a comment or a note with a link to where ever you posted it - a lot of blood, sweat, and tears went into this thing...and it's always nice to share with others. :aww:

And one final bit of trivia, for anyone who cares - this document (not filled in, of course) is currently just a hair over 17 pages long in 12 pt. Berlin Sans FB font with single spacing and half-inch margins...hence the name, "Profile of DOOM!" :D Anyway...happy writing!

Addendum: For those who would like to download this as a Word document, please visit this link --> [link] It will connect you to the same document uploaded to my GoogleDocs account. Once there, you should be have several different options for download. The best part is there's no login required or anything like that - you just click and go. :) Hope that helps everyone!
