The gothic art
Between 1050 and 1350, for two centuries, the art of Occidental Europe evoluted very fast. The church remained the main master of arts, and all arts were realised in religious purpose. The cathedrals, chapels and churches were full of sculptures, paintings and stained glass, and they soon became shiny monuments of faith and of church's power. In time, the gothic art has lost its intensity that animated the early works and made them special. A bigger technical artistry was revealed to produce more realistic and stylish creations, and in general, more calm in their tones. This thing can be noticed especially in sculpture, where it's clear that the authors started to admire the sculptures of the roman artists and to analyze how did they got at such high standards of representation. Of course, this would have been easier for the italian sculptors, which from far had the utmost roman vestiges.
