"I imagine so," said Irene with all the sentiment Sherlock had, which was none, as they both liked to pretend. "Well It's been fun. Thanks for saving my life."

She turned to go, but stopped. "You know when you told me you'd never begged for mercy in your life?"
" Yes." Sherlock was confused as to what this had to do with anything.

"I have not," Sherlock scoffed.

Sherlock stood with his back on the wall, his breathing steady and eyes narrowed. It was almost pitch black in the alley, and the only hint of life came from the bins that reflected faint lights from the nearest road. The buildings here were so close together that John was pressed against Sherlock's side. "Sherlock, I'm still confused." John whispered. "You said that we were going out on a case and I honestly wasn't expecting a solid hour cramped up knee deep in rubbish."
John tried to look at Sherlock's face, but he couldn't make anything out. Sherlock didn't speak or move a response. John scowled silently into the night. Why did he always do this to him? At least once every few weeks Sherlock would drag him out somewhere without warning, and never give him an explanation. It was the second time this week he'd been pushed out of the house, and John was starting to lose his patience. A few more silent minutes went by, and a few more, then a few more.
