Repaint is a new form of pop art, wherein the doll's face is treated like a three dimensional canvas, with the added challenge of painting within a very small area and an even greater challenge of recreating a real person's likeness. Since dolls are basically miniature pieces, brush strokes and shading have to be very controlled and precise.

Being a huge fan of the Lord of the Rings trilogy film, I anticipated with much excitement Tonner Company's release of their LOTR line of dolls based from the films.

This sculpt in my opinion is absolutely spot on, but sadly the factory paint failed to bring out Cate Blanchett's strong features. Scale and proportion were major issues, particularly the eyes and lips.

Since her makeup was very minimal, it was a little tricky as well.

(THIS DEVIATION HAS BEEN PREVIOUSLY POSTED HERE BUT WANTED TO REPOST WITH TODAY'S PASSING AWAY OF MS. ELIZABETH TAYLOR)

Elizabeth Taylor possesses one of the most beautiful faces in Holywood. It is then no wonder that she was chosen to portray one of the most legendary characters in history. Her role as Cleopatra in the 1963 epic version showcased her piercing beauty as well as her acting range.

So , as I always do, I completely removed factory facial painting and hand painted the doll to infuse it with the essence and character of Elizabeth Taylor as seen in the movie. This was achieved with an exacting level of accuracy as well as shading and layering of colors, some of which are very subtle. This was all intended to bring out the luminescence Taylor radiated in the movie.

The inset photo in the middle shows the doll as it looked originally before repainting.

Repaint is a new form of pop art, wherein the doll's face is treated like a three dimensional canvas, with the added challenge of painting within a very small area . Since dolls are basically miniature pieces, brush strokes and shading have to be very controlled and precise as well as carefully paying attention to proper scale.

"i've been up for hours!"

it's time to go to corneration day!! =D so happy she's finally done! i would have never thought that i'd say this but even mini coronation anna's hair style was easier than this one, lol. i really like how her night gown turned out, though, i'll upload a better pic of it soon! (: i now feel like she needs a night gown elsa to go with her, aaaah!
and a huge thank you to my friend claude-on-the-road who heard me ranting over the hair for hours, hahaha. x3

EDIT
thank to anijel for the video of the scene:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=VGx9q9…
you can hear at the end of the clip that anna misspells "coronation" for corneration, so that's why i misspelled it as well. (;
btw, funny fact: in german she says "my sister's coleration" which i think is even a little funnier, haha. ^-^

I basically just wanted to share this photo of me in my repaint workshop, working on a repaint of Julie Andrews as Mary Poppins. I also show here the finished repaint.

This celebrity doll repaint was inspired by the dashing British actor Orlando Bloom in his portrayal of Will Turner in Pirates of the Caribbean.

I used a 17-inch Will Turner produced by Robert Tonner Doll company. As is usually the case with mass produced dolls depicting celebrities, the sculpt is spot on but the doll suffers in the facial paint department, which is as crucial a process in capturing likeness.

So, the first order of business was to completely remove factory facial painting. I then hand painted it to bring the likeness of Orlando Bloom as Will Turner to lfe, paying careful attention to replicate his weather-worn look.

The hair underwent extensive and meticulous restyling. First, I cut the hair to a shorter length. Then I heat permed the hair to give it the needed wave. Finally, I layered the hair by running the scissors along the length of the hair. This also reduces the hair's volume and thickness down to proper scale. Last, I handpainted delicate lines of hair along the hairline to soften the overall look. Sideburns were more accurately hand repainted as well.

The inset photo on the upper right hand corner shows the Will Turner doll as it was originally released.

This celebrity doll repaint was inspired by pop diva Madonna specifically as she portrayed the role of seductive Breathless Mahoney in the 1990 movie "Dick Tracy".

I used a 16-inch Simply Breathless doll here produced by Robert Tonner Doll company which I felt was the perfect canvas for this portrait repaint.

So, the first order of business was to completely remove factory facial painting. I then hand painted it to bring Madonna's likeness to doll life.

Next was I transformed her hair style by giving her a hair cut and a heat perm. I then carefully styled the hair to replicate Madonna's in her movie character.

The small photo in the lower middle shows the doll as it originally looked before being repainted.

Repaint is a new form of pop art, wherein the doll's face is treated like a three dimensional canvas, with the added challenge of painting within a very small area and an even greater challenge of recreating a real person's likeness, in this case using a pre-existing doll. Since dolls are basically miniature pieces, brush strokes and shading have to be very controlled and precise.

this elsa doll was a lot of fun to work with! she used to be the 12" classic singing doll from the disney store. when i got her, however, i was pretty disappointed by her plain coronation dress (as she mostly wears this during her song, so why leave out all the details?). i originally had wanted to embroider it but my boy friend came up with the idea that it would be so much more cooler if i'd do elsa during her transformation to the snow queen. so here she is. =D

i embroidered her dress and i have sewn a new skirt which is covered in rhinestones and glitter. (super hard to get that right in the pics! i had to shoot her at night to show how she glitters ... will upload daylight pics soon as well! :)) her face is repainted and i also applied real lashes. (:
hope you love her as much as i do. <3

This celebrity doll repaint was inspired by British actress Keira Knightley and is my second in my series of Elizabeth Swann repaints.

I used a 16-inch Elizabeth Swann doll here produced by Robert Tonner Doll company - a finely made facial sculpt but the facial paint was something I found quite unsatisfactory and which I felt did not really reflect the character portrayed by Keira nor captured her likeness.

So, the first order of business was to completely remove factory facial painting. I then hand painted it to bring the likeness of Ms. Knightley to life particularly as she appeared in her portrayal of the abandoned bride from the movie Pirates of the Caribbean - Dead Man's Chest.

Next was I transformed her hair style by giving her a layer cut then a soft perm for just some very natural looking waves.

Jack Sparrow is clearly one of my all-time favorite movie characters, perfectly portrayed by the briliant Johnny Depp.
Although, I've done a few Jack Sparrow dolls previously, no two are ever alike. This one in particular is unique for its different facial expression and the level of detail, which I mus say is my most detailed rendering of Jack to date - which includes authentic hair ornaments including the handcrafted ornament to resemeble his reindeer shinbone. Also, his clothes and accessories have been hand distressed. The tattoo and handpainted bandana are also in place.

I use a 17-inch Tonner doll for this recreation. The inset photo shows the doll in its original factory state

As with all my creations, I completely strip the original factory paint on each of the dolls, and completely repaint the facial features in, paying attention to accuracy of likeness and lifelike expressions. The doll also underwent extensive hair restyling - each dreadlock has been carefully created to match the character's. Also, dreadlocks in two additional shades were added and secured in place like hair extensions.

Repaint is a new form of pop art, wherein the doll's face is treated like a three dimensional canvas, with the added challenge of painting within a very small area . Since dolls are basically miniature pieces, brush strokes and shading have to be very controlled and precise.

Another custom interpretation inspired by the dashing British actor Orlando Bloom in his portrayal of Will Turner in Pirates of the Caribbean. This rendition portrays a cleaner-looking Will as he prepares for his supposed wedding to Ms. Swann, which of course never happened in the movie. His expression and detail are also somewhat different from my first one.

I then hand painted it to bring the likeness of Orlando Bloom as Will Turner to lfe, paying careful attention to proper facial expression.

Angelina Jolie has currently received quite a bit of attention in the media for her courage in sharing her battle with breast cancer. In light of that, I felt inspired to replicate her yet again in doll form, and again in 11 1/2 inch scale.

Carefully selecting an appropriate sculpt for Mattel, I chose to recreate Jolie to showcase her more current look but still maintaining her distinct features.

Repaint is a new form of pop art, wherein the doll's face is treated like a three dimensional canvas, with the added challenge of painting within a very small area and an even greater challenge of recreating a real person's likeness. MANY THANKS FOR ALL YOUR COMMENTS AND INPUTS. AFTER ASSESSING AND RE-ASSESSING THE WORK IN PROGRESS VERSION, I DECIDED TO STRIP THE ENTIRE HOT TOYS FACTORY PAINT AND START WITH A CLEAN SLATE.

IN THE WORK IN PROGRESS VERSION, THE ORIGINAL HOT TOYS PAINT APP WAS KEPT INTACT AND I SIMPLY PAINTED OVER THE EXISTING PAINT. THIS LIMITED MY CREATIVE RANGE AS I HAD TO WORK WITH EXISTING PAINT. AFTER MUSTERING ENOUGH COURAGE, I DECIDED TO REMOVE THE ORIGINAL HOT TOYS PAINT COMPLETELY AND START WITH A BLANK "CANVAS". I AM MUCH HAPPIER WITH THE RESULTS THIS TIME.

Custom precision repaint of the Jakks Pacific Maleficent doll. Image on the left shows the doll before repaint.

Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno is coming to our local cinemas this month and I am reaaally excited for it. What I'm especially excited for though, is seeing the guy who brought Kenshin to life, Satoh Takeru, in person!!! Some of the cast members and the director are coming to Manila for a Red Carpet procession, Press Con and Premiere screening of the film. I'll be attending the Red Carpet procession, thanks to my friend Mina winning passes to it! THANK YOU DESTINY!

To join in the RK hype, here's Rurouni Starr. :lmao: This guy seems to be my go-to doll for random cosplays of my favorite anime characters. :giggle:

This is a custom figure of King Alistair from Dragon Age.

Alistair is a repaint of Loghain from DC Unlimited, and the head is from the John Crichton (farscape) figure from Toy Vault. I sculpted the hair. I am happy with the likeness, even if it is a bit too grumpy for Alistair :).

The shield is a printed picture from the game glued onto a bent plastic sheet.

First of all I want to apologize to people who are waiting for execution of the order or have been arranged for November. Unfortunately, I suffered by the radial nerve damage and my right hand isn't efficient. Treatment will last at least 2 weeks offcourse if everything will be fine:. I hope that it will be because I can't stand that I can not paint.

In the meantime, two photos of my personal Frankie repaint that I have never showed. Her name is Mabelle. I always wanted to make sleeping MH repaint. I finished her 2 weeks ago but well didn't photo her till now.
Once again, all very sorry for the delay, somehow reward.

Sorry for my English.

Anyone remember who that is? The witch shown in the beginning of Disney's Beauty and the Beast who turned the prince into a beast. I always loved how that part was told through stained glass so here she is, in my style. In case you can't recognize/remember her, here's a little help [link] . ;)

Pencil, watercolours. Approx. 22x12 cm.
The character is (c) Disney.

As an artist, I believe in challenging oneself in order to grow. Hence, I take satisfaction in creating as many varied celebrities/characters as I can.

The dolls used are 16 inch and 17 inch Arwen and Aragorn dolls by Robert Tonner. Full facial repaint and shading as well as extensive hair style make over to replicate the features of Liv Tyler and Viggo Mortensen, particularly as seen in the epic Lord of the Rings.
