i made this for a friend who is an astro-biologist, and it's the lastest in a series of collages i've been doing. i made a point of scanning it first because i have to send it to her. there's no digital manipulation to it, george bernard shaw's partline and those neurons just happened to fit together that perfectly.
I found this and just went with it. I can't resist painting a lovely black and white... His face isn't exactly the same as the photo.. I had a lot of trouble with the angle / symmetry, but gave it my best!
i was stressing out a little over travelling issues (going to africa in a few days and there were issues with the flight booking) so i needed to relax and draw something mindless! and then this was born. someone pointed out the similarity between this and mattahan's piece - mattahan.deviantart.com/art/En… - which is definitely not a coincidence, i am a huge fan of his work!
The drawing I worked on during SDCC! It almost got ruined when my normally dependable brush pen exploded ink all over my hands because I uncapped it in the plane cabin--I only saved it by reversing the frog's colors!
After watching the making of blade runner, finally reading Neuromancer and seeing the trailer for Cyberpunk 2077 in February I had to make a cyberpunk piece Just remember kids smoking cigarettes is about as good of an idea as taking a bullet to the head almost done with these portraits they are just hard to resist thx for viewing
I tried a couple new things for this picture. Mainly to do an urban environment but instead of going nuts over details I tried to do the whole "make it look like there are details without adding details" thing, I used a couple mullins references to try and figure out which details are more important than others. 2nd I wanted to try creating a texture layer for big o, so this is essentially 2 layers, the bottom layer is a texture mess and is nothing byitself, the top layer is everything else but with the sillouette of Big O erased out (then adding minimal shading so its not just a giant shadow).
for people interested in the process of what I did, I made a quick runthrough of the steps I took at polykarbonbbs.com - you can find the post here [link] (edit: oops I accidentally deleted the images from my server, the text is still there but no images)
"JUST A POLAR BEAR?", Jack shouted. "Just a polar bear? He fits in the palm of my hand with room to spare!" "What will we name him?", asked his sister. "Name him?", Jack asked. "What will we DO with him?"
Pencil on paper S. Fitts, 2009 My work is NOT to be copied, borrowed, distributed, manipulated or used in any way without my expressed written consent. If you have questions please note me.
I love both of these comics, and have been a fan for a long time so to be beside them in printing is not only GREAT EXCITEMENT, but a great honor.
You can check out 4DE here too!!
There'll be lots of neat things that way, and if you're into collecting llamas, send one their way and they will return the favor! Llamas, llamas.
This poster is to celebrate being a part of the team! It was one of the many reasons I was so quiet for a while, but hopefully you'll dig! Also, if you're going to Fanime, this poster will be available there as well! Unfortunately I can't make it, but STILL! Drop by the booth and say Hi!
And oh yes! Some technicalities, for the textures I actually made my own! I took a piece of paper, crumpled it and painted espresso across it! For the logo it's just my handwriting, no fonts! It took me about two days total and it takes ten minutes to save the file. Hahahahahaha. Agh.
