Promised"I'll see you around, Lisa."More Like This
You turn to walk away, and your promise beats in my heart like my lifeblood, like my soul. Your words, whispered so as not to break the silence and peace of the meadow, echo in my ears and fill up the empty space that fits your shape so perfectly - a gap that only you and your words can fill.
"I promise I won't die. Not yet. I swear."
That night, I get a call from your mother. She sounds frantic.
"Have you seen Jack? I tried to call his mobile but he didn't answer and he hasn't been home since he left to go out."
I bite my lip. You wouldn't do anything reckless or stupid or spur-of-the-moment. You promised. I desperatly consider places you might've gone, things you might've done, and all this time one niggling thought, irritating as a tick and as worrying as an unexplained lump, gnaws at my mind.
I try to get some sleep, knowing that in the morning everything will be alright.
Everything's alright in the end.
