in chinese mythology, dragons are associated with water, rivers and seas. this picture was inspired by an old chinese myth i read when i was a kid. it was kinda like a kipling "how did_____ get its ______". in this case, it was how did china get its rivers.
a long time ago, china had no rivers, so the people had to depend on the rain to water the crops. however, one year, the jade emperor neglected to send down the rain, since he was having such a good time up in heaven.
there were four dragon princes living in the sea at that time, and they had a pretty care-free life, frolicking among the waves. however, things got so bad on land that the cries and wails of the people were heard even under the waves and the princes ventured to take a look.
the land was so parched the crops had died and famine was rampant across the lands. taking pity on the humans, the four dragons flew up to heaven to plead with the jade emperor to send down the rain. their pleas fell on deaf ears, however, and the dragons were sent back down to the ocean.
one of the princes grew angry and suggested that they take the water from the sea and spray it down on to the land. (i guess salt water just made things worse, lol) the dragons tried this for a couple of days, but it just wasn't enough.
finally, the princes decided to sacrifice themselves for the people. going on to the land, they turned themselves into rivers. hence the four great rivers of china were created: Heilongjiang (black dragon river) in the north, the yellow river and the yangtze (changjiang) in the central region and the pearl river in the south.

Ryujin or Ryojin (龍神, "dragon god"?), also known as Owatatsumi, was the tutelary deity of the sea in Japanese mythology. This Japanese dragon symbolized the power of the ocean, had a large mouth, and was able to transform into a human shape. Ryūjin lived in Ryugu-jo, his palace under the sea built out of red and white coral, from where he controlled the tides with magical tide jewels. Sea turtles, fish and jellyfish are often depicted as Ryūjin's servants.
Ryūjin was the father of the beautiful goddess Otohime who married the hunter prince Hoori. The first Emperor of Japan, Emperor Jimmu, is said to have been a grandson of Otohime and Hoori's. Thus, Ryūjin is said to be one of the ancestors of the Japanese imperial dynasty.
According to legend, the Empress Jingu was able to carry out her attack into Korea with the help of Ryūjin's tide jewels. Upon confronting the Korean navy, Jingu threw the kanju (干珠, "tide-ebbing jewel"?) into the sea, and the tide receded. The Korean fleet was stranded, and the men got out of their ships. Jingu then threw down the manju (満珠, "tide-flowing jewel"?) and the water rose, drowning the Korean soldiers. An annual festival, called Gion Matsuri, at Yasaka Shrine celebrates this legend.
Another legend involving Ryūjin is the story about how the jellyfish lost its bones. According to this story, Ryūjin wanted to eat monkey's liver (in some versions of the story, to heal an incurable rash), and sent the jellyfish to get him a monkey. The monkey managed to sneak away from the jellyfish by telling him that he had put his liver in a jar in the forest and offered to go and get it. As the jellyfish came back and told Ryujin what had happened, Ryūjin became so angry that he beat the jellyfish until its bones were crushed.
In Shinto, Ryujin shinkō (竜神信仰, "dragon god faith"?) is a form of Shinto religious belief that worships dragons as water kami. It is connected with agricultural rituals, rain prayers, and the success of fishermen.
Oh my GOODNESS!!! I cannot believe it! My first Daily Deviation! This is such an honor! Thank you so very much to the person who nominated me and the person who selected me to be featured. I am shocked and thrilled!
The house shape may be familiar, I started this painting right after doing my cobblestone cottage, i liked the painting so much i wanted to make one for myself, however I decided to try a brick house instead. It was left unfinished for years. I finally finished it up and am quite pleased at the atmosphere in the painting. it is quite charming.

Please don't watch the video explaining this: www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_qT1c… New version with more features. We actually have a domain now, just in time for April fools PROTIP: Pretend you're helping and press ENTER on the key to cause a BSOD!
Please don't bring it down.. Aaaand it's down. Mirror: http://omnimo.info/wu/ Main one should be up in a yiffy.
--- Oh good, it's down again. You can try a mirror meanwhile: fediafedia.comule.com Just an FYI - this works on windows, mac, linux or whatever. It just needs a browser and internet connectivity.
Now works. EDIT: Looks like the server is dead from all of the requests. I'll reupload it to another one soon.
Hey guys, just thought I'd share something I did a few weeks before out of boredom.
Basically it's a fake Windows Update screen that resides entirely in your browser. With April the 1st coming up, here are the following potential practical uses:
> Go to an Apple Store. Type in fediafedia.com on one or all of their Macs and Press F11 for fullscreen. Be escorted out of the store by angry employees. > Do the same on any of your college computers and watch people just stand there confused > Use it in your office to slack off or get a break > Use it as an excuse in your botched PowerPoint presentations
> Loops forever. > Hides the cursor, almost impossible to tell if it's fake > Adjusts to any screen size > Very realistic
Soon I'll do some improvements to it (thank you everyone for suggestions):
> Changing the Language > More accurate Windows 8 version > Windows XP version > Ability to add your own text (maybe?)
