i imagine myself peeling open
in the hollow chant of a bell toll,
distancing myself from reality
like a snake coils tighter
when held by cold hands.
i experience the sensation
of my soul tapering away from me,
shoulders rising,
my bar-fight jaw cracking and snapping,
a parallel face pulling out of my own,
our cheeks conjoined and eyes smearing together
like wet war paint.
on nights such as these,
i tear myself open
to see my memories spill forth

search for evermore
comets crashing people flee
rivers turn blood red
candy canes and chocolate drops
everyone is dead
dreams and scapes and vision quests
reality a blur
am I sleeping or awake
