ZM 2012: EpilogueSeven harsh winters. Seven blazing summers. 84 months of growth and love. And once during almost every single one of them, he returned to her. And finally, she was ready to do the same.More Like This
Katara stood in the doorway, watching her daughter splash her hands happily on the surface of the clear pond. Her husband sat beside the little girl, visibly having an internal war as to whether he should pull her away from the water so that the turtleducks would not grow to fear her or leave her be so that his ears would not have her enraged shrieks to fear.
When he looked up and saw her, he seemed to relax a little as a placid smile immediately came to his lips and a small gleam to his eyes. Seeing that she no longer had her father's attention, the little girl looked up to see what could possibly me more important than her. Her thick, brown, wavy hair billowed out behind her as she whipped her head around. Her golden eyes became as soft as her father's and three times as bright when she saw who h

"How are you doing Katara?" Zuko asked stupidly to his wife, who was currently in labour. She was sweating immensely and her hair was plastered to her face. Her eyes appeared wild and raw.
"How am I doing!?" Katara screeched. "Why don't you try squeezing a human out of your body, before you ask me how I'm doing!" Zuko winced, the hormones were at their peak.
"You're right Katara, I'm sorry. I-"
"Shut up!" She bellowed, cutting him off. "Shut up you ignorant pig or I'll come over there when I'm done and-!"
"Calm down Katara!" Zuko retorted.
"Fire Lady Katara, I implore you to keep your voice down. Fire Lord Zuko, I advise you never to tell a pregnant woman to calm down." The healer delivering their baby counselled. Katara, who was breathing heavily at this point, looked at the woman, smiled and nodded. Zuko raised his eyebrows. Apparently she only wanted to slaughter men.
Zuko tried a more supportive approach and grasped Katara's h
ZM 2012 Day 8: PrejudiceAfter that night, Zuko and Katara became much closer. They spent all of their free time together, sometimes reading mythology or practicing their bending, but mostly they made music together. Their kisses were few and far between, but the ones that they managed to steal in the shadows or behind pillars until they could retire for the evening, were marvelous. They conversed more freely and discovered a bevy of commonalities like their favorite type of tea and how much they both missed her blue clothes.More Like This
One day, Katara left the library to find Zuko waiting for her. "You're out early," she stated. "What's the occasion?"
"Actually, that's sort of what I came to talk to you about…" Katara's face fell. What was it? Had something terrible happened? Had their wedding been given a date? "Uncle has planned a ball for the end of the week."
Her expression lifted once more and she let out a loud laugh. "That's all? It sounds like fun!"
Zuko pinched the bridge of his nose. "It most certainly is not

"You don't understand, Katara. It's my duty to protect you all after everything that's happened…I can't let my guard down just because the war's over. There's still danger out there," he replied warily.
"Zuko, things are all settled now. Besides, you don't need to be so vigilant while we're all here. Things are as safe as they'll ever be!"
It was just after Sozin's comet. They were all staying in Ba Sing Se for awhile to celebrate the end of the war. Aang, Sokka, Toph, and Suki were off helping Uncle Iroh in his tea shop, leaving Katara and Zuko alone.
"Look, I know there has to be something fun around here to do. What about singing? I know your Uncle is fond of it. Do you know any songs?"
The prince scratched his palm against the back of his head. "Uhh…well, not really. None with words. Music hasn't really been a big part of our lives in the Fire Nation…

Zuko waited anxiously in the waiting room of the health center in his palace for his wife to give birth to his heir, his child. He could never stay still for too long though, he got up and started pacing the floor, a frown on his brow. Why is it taking so long? Surely it shouldn't have taken this long? I wonder if something happened to the baby. The young Fire Lord thought.
Just then a nurse came out of the room. She had a smile on her face but there was sadness in her eyes. Zuko stopped pacing and straightened to his full height.
"It's a healthy girl." The old nurse told him.
Zuko's face brightened and he smiled. But something was wrong. Why did the nurse look so upset? He cleared his throat.
The nurse dabbed a napkin to her misty eyes. "I'm sorry Fire Lord, but I'm afraid the Fire Lady is fading fast. I don't think she's going to make it."
It felt like Zuko's very blood froze inside him and his heart stopped beating. He was in shock. This couldn't be happening to hi

A tear slipped down my cheek and dripped onto his pale chest. Seeing him now, on the edge of death, barely holding on, it broke my heart.
He had so many scars. I know he didn’t-doesn’t I correct myself firmly- like scars, they represent weaknesses, mercies he has been granted. I just never knew just how many there were. The burn on his eye, his most visible is clenched- even in unconsciousness.
With a shaking hand I trail my fingers across it, wincing at the heat that seems to simmer off of it. I have never been ashamed of his scars like he has but that didn’t mean I liked them. If he hadn’t already been dead I would have destroyed his father for even giving him one.
My hand trails around his burn, his sweating brow, his cheeks… his soft lips. He doesn’t know I love him. I probably will never tell him, this time alone in the medical tent is all the time I am allotted to be alone with him. Carefully I push my hair behind m
