in all probability I could still probably get a better shot of this painting. satin to semi-gloss finish due to a finishing layer of wood stain makes this extremely difficult to shoot without getting some amount of reflection off the surface. regardless this is my first painting in over a decade, though I may not be completely finished with it yet. I just wanted to post it to prove I've actually been working on something.

oil, acrylic, spray paint, shellac, paint marker and wood stain on canvas.

fyi, my work is NOT to be used as stock or texture or a "resource" for derivative works.

My mom and I wen't searching for a super moon and caught one! We headed out to the same spot we camped last time looking for the best angle to capture the super moon. Arriving before sunset made it an awesome time just to chit chat and run away from these two bees that wouldn't leave us alone ! That day at the desert gave us a show! The sunset was so colorful! I took tons of photos i hoped i captured some beauties but i can't wait to show you the colors! Later on i hiked up a nearby hill maybe 300 ft from the car in the dark which i cut my arm on a dead tree lol but it made it all worth it giving me an awesome chance to shoot the moon! This is my second shot of the moon the other one is earlier in the day giving a nice blue sky in the background! Hope you enjoy and thanks for reading! Thank you for the comments and favorties! Here's a little step by step of this image : fav.me/d7qwqkz

In the first step I try to lay down the basic composition, figuring out where to put details and where not to. You can see I used a fibonacci spiral to help me a bit.

I then define the forms of each feature in the painting, still trying to find good compositions but on a smaller scale (shape of the rocks etc...).

On the third step I roughly put the colors, trying to establish the mood first, not worrying about details.

I adjusted the values on the fourth step for a better read, more atmospheric perspective always help.

And then finally I spend a lot of time detailing and refining until I call it done.

Feel free to ask me if you have any questions ! ;)
