I'm like an old woman with wet panties... atmosphere...true color...atmosphere. I get stuck between influences. On the one hand I have Alex nail smacking me with a pole about true color and on the other hand I have Andy Mumford telling me that it's art and I may create what I want... I'm starting to slowly lean towards a more arty look. If the light is right then I won't do much, but with a lot of images like this one I'll fiddle around with the color for more impact.

Well I’m back from Syndey had a nice little break over there even if it was only for a few days .

I have to say the NSW has some really impressive coast line to photograph probally some of the best in Australia . The only down side to the trip was the weather :( , it was really werid weather will I was over there and light wasnt great as well . At sunrise it just went from dark to light gray no color , Still went out each day photographing even with a sprained ankle which I did walking down one of the step coast steps to the beach .

This was a 7 image stitch of one of the beachs over there cant renember the name .

The Racetrack in Death Valley, CA.

A place I have wanted to visit since I was young. I have always been interested in the unexplained and I feel this place falls into that catagory very well. Not only is the place mysterious in itself but there are stones that move across the playa by themselves.
Scientists speculate that when the playa is wet the surface becomes slippery. Strong winds can nudge them loose and inertia takes over. I dont subscribe to this theory, nor do I subscribe so any I have heard to date. It is something you have to see for yourself and formulate your own opinions, or appreciate it for what it is. A mystery.

It has been a goal of mine to photograph the Owens River without including the ever inspiring Eastern Sierras within the frame to focus on the texture of the moving water and the grasses that surround the rim of the river. On this wonderful morning the light was just right to look down the valley instead of pointing into the granite walls of the surrounding mountains.

Eastern Sierras, Owens Valley, California.

Left the west coast a bit late and arrived in Motueka at night. No idea where we were but kept cruising around until we came across this big dark figure ashore! So stayed the night and got up for sunrise(like the 6th one on holiday!) to see a shipwreck:D I tried getting closer but the ground was trying to eat me... it all goes underwater by the looks and sinking!

HDR from a single RAW, GND8 used.

A fail by me in the morning last week... i waited, ready for a huge wave similar to one which landed right beneath my feet minutes before only to get some little splashes! By the time i moved and re-composed the firey sky had faded to a dull yellow:( Oh well, next time maybe:)

Well after the fail the night before i went back last night and tried again:D

Exposure is equivalent to an hour:dance:

I said equivalent because this is made from 120 shots! =Sun-Seeker lead me to [link] . Each taken @ 30sec, F/4, ISO500, 10mm on a 40D. While a separate 70sec shot was taken at lower ISO where i painted the lighthouse with a phone!

I found a cool preset for lightroom... its meant to be a based on the effect seen in the movie '300' (spartans or whatever). So i thought i'd try it on this boat which was pretty average looking before - now its 300 stylez:D

Split Point, Airey's Inlet Lighthouse, Victoria, Australia with the Southern Hemisphere's half of the Milky Way in the background.

It looks as if the light house is guarding the galaxy from disaster.

The moment I saw the result on my camera's LCD screen, I knew I had an amazing opportunity here. I stood there for a good hour in the blistering cold shooting long exposures. I wanted to capture the stars with as little Earth-rotation as possible. The Light house itself is lit from passing cars in the distance during the exposure.

I diddn't even notice the shooting star, but the camera did, in almost every exposure there were at least one.

This is a single exposure of 14mm, 400ISO, 2.8f, 69s

To see the galaxy in all it's stationary starry glory, check out my 2 min exposure of the same lighthouse: [link] You'll notice that the lighthouse lighting is different. Thats due to cars driving past at the time of exposure.

Very proud of this.

Dammit, keep uploading the wrong one. Here we go.

Holy crap a DD for something I'm proud of doing :D

I'm going to get thousands of qs about the shutter speed, so I'll get it out there now.

Shutter speed of 8 mins, fstop of 6, ISO 400, the usual postprocessing of colour enhancement.

Its hard to know when to stop taking photos as the conditions change so quickly with cloudy weather. There was a tiny gap in the clouds that brought out the red in The Olgas. Just enough time for a panorama of 4 images:)
