And his heart ceased beating for a moment or two,
What have I become? He cried to the night,
Something you have always feared, it replied from out of sight,
Why me? Called the man; whose hunger began to increase,
You were weak, the night replied; His pain did not cease,
Food turned to ash in his mouth, as did liquid drink,
He was ravenous with hunger, he could not think,
Blood, he thought, for now I must sin,
And for as long as he avoided the sun, that was how he would din.
