Artscape: Comic Book HeroesThe ABC TV channel here in Australia (different to the ABC in the USA) on their Artscape show on Tuesday nights has had a mini documentary series called 'Comic Book Heroes.'Artscape: Comic Book Heroes in Personal More Like This
It's all about Perth Australia publishers Gestalt Comics headed by Wolfgang Bylsma, and featuring the talents of artists Justin Randall, Gary Chaloner, Tom Taylor, and Emily Smith amongst others. All of whom I've met at one time or another of course being local in Perth as well.
The documentary follows the guys over the course of 2 years as they try to break into the US comic market by attending sdcc and other cons and expand the company profile through media deals. (They got their comic "The Deep" picked up and made into an animated series premiering in 2014!) plus interest in their series "Changing Ways" from the same people who are producing The Walking Dead! Negotiations are still ongoing there apparently...
Now if you missed the show don't fret. It's available on the ABC's iView online on demand (and free to v
Creating a successful kickstarter projectHi all,Creating a successful kickstarter project in Personal More Like This
I came across these articles on comicsbeat.com on how to run a successful kickstarter crowd funding project. I've contributed to 3 people's KS projects now, all of which have tanked unfortunately and even though I had no financial interest in the final product it was still a bit of a bummer. There are 2 others I've contributed to that haven't been launched yet, but will be soon.
Worth a read IMO ... Essentially though if you think you can just launch a campaign, sit back and let the people come, then you are clearly going to fail. A KS involves a lot of bloody hard work promoting and selling your project to all and sundry in every possible way you can think of via the Internet media. Twitter, Facebook and blogs are your very best friends at this time. It also helps it seems if you launch around the time of a major comic con and then have a table at said con where you can continue to sell your project to all the other artists and con attendees that come past...

Pencils for inking - competition!Hi all,Pencils for inking - competition! in Personal More Like This
I'm looking for someone to ink these two highres pencils. I've tried to hit up some people that have done stuff for me in the past but no one has bitten so far.
To sweeten the deal I'm prepared make it a competition! I have some comics here signed by pro inker Walden Wong that I'm prepared to offer as prizes. He worked on the inks for all of these comics. Postage to anywhere in the world is ok by me. Plus you'll get a highres (electronic) copy of the coloured file that I do on the winning inks (one caveat on that - you are forbidden to use those colours for commercial purposes)
Deadline will be, hmmmm.... Let's see, 14th October 2014. (GMT +8 - Perth Western Australia) That's a month from now, so it gives you a good amount of time. You can email them to me at "email@example.com" or upload them here to DA and then link me to them. You will provide them at a minimum in the same dimensions and dpi as they are posted here.
You can do one or both images if you like. There is an i

okay, so after a swarm of questions many of which left me with my jaw on the floor... i realized something...
people are afraid of pushing a button to see what it does
okay, to backtrack first. i am self taught in photoshop, had no books had no tutorials, had a borrowed i think 7... dunno which was before cs2 when i started, i learned it by ....pressing a button and seeing what it does
i explored, i tried stuff out.
i had no teachers no schools no education on this stuff
i saw a button i pressed it.
that is how about 9 years ago when i first decided to try and apply digital coloring to early pages of ravine, i was dabbing paint on a page. i came to the point where i had to paint a waterfall. so , just for fun i tried putting scattering on the foam brush i made, a simple thing. and i was gonna see if smudge could be scattered. it had a weird side effect.
So, I watched this video...This is a video interview with Alex Sinclair, I found. So, I watched this video... in Personal More Like This
And down here are my thoughts on it.
First of all, you may or may not know this but, there are not a lot of videos out there with Alex Sinclair out there, especially considering that he's one of the biggest comic book colorists ever!
I have always been annoyed by this because he is my all time favorite colorist and by far my biggest inspiration (I would say 90% of my inspiration has been from his work) as a colorist myself. And I have learned a lot by his images, a few things I read by him here and there, but there's nothing like listening to someone talk, in person, about how they do things and why. Even just the little things on this video were so helpful to me!
A few things that this video brought out for me are...
1: Alex Sinclair is super nice! He's very respectful of other people in the art industry or other people trying to make it as an artist, Really involved in the younger generation of artists, always giving incouragemen
My Brother is now taking color CommissionsHere's the info, in case you're interested:My Brother is now taking color Commissions in Personal More Like This
I have recently decided to start taking commissions for my colors.
I Generally work with covers and pin-ups but am more than willing to do sequential work.
My starting price for a page is $25 and then depending on detail we can work out a price from there, but it shouldn't range too much farther than that.
I will not do nudity or anything too explicit.
Here are a few pieces I have colored in the past for reference:

[Download Issue #1]
Those of you who followed me over last summer would remember frequent Livestream sessions of coloring the entirety of Thief Of Hearts issue #2. The book is now available online for immediate digital download! At 36 pages in full color, I really put way more effort into it than I even knew I had. It was certainly an experience and a tremendous endeavor, but after all those late nights and weekends poured into the project, the end result is definitely worth it. I would like to take a moment to thank everybody who kept me company on those Livestream sessions, just so
The Bob Ross ChallengesBob Ross Challenge: 8/19/2013The Bob Ross Challenges in Personal More Like This
For those of you who hang with me on the Livestreams or frequent Toxic-Mario's livestream sessions, you may be aware of a phenomenon known as the Bob Ross challenge. It's pretty simple. Toxic-Mario puts on an episode of Bob Ross' the joy of painting, and I attempt to follow along with him.
The problem is, Bob Ross works with oils. I work digitally.
Oil does not translate to digital...
So what's supposed to be a calm, meditative experience becomes a vulgar wrestling match with my flimsy stupid software in my fruitless attempts to even mimic the dapper afrobastard himself.
The funny thing about art is that no matter how much you swear and cry and scream over it, every pixel you push out takes you one pixel closer to achieving the style you want. Yeah I'm nowhere near Ross' level, but I have made progress and adopted a lot of new techniques and brushing methods to speed up and improve my style. Pretty good fo
Sooo I got some horses...Yeah, just as the title says. A good friend of my dad doesn't want to keep taking care of these two horses anymore so he just gave em to my dad. The thing is we don't really have a place to keep them since we live in the urban city. My dad might just sell them both to someone who can properly care for them since they're kinda skinny. Or hopefully just keep the cute brown one who kept staring :iconuguufaceplz: since my dad knows another guy who can keep it in his ranch for us. That would be so sweet. My brother even named it Applejack. I wasn't even thinking mlp and he doesn't even watch it but he was dead serious on the name.Sooo I got some horses... in Personal More Like This

Disney vs Lucas ArtsIf ever you bring up Disney in a conversation, people immediately recite tired old issues with the company that haven't been true for a long time. For example, complaining about the excess of half-assed sequels. That was part of Michael Eisner's regime. When he left the studio the quality Disney was producing suddenly skyrocketed considerably. Likewise the excessive merchandising and branding of Disney related products has also ceased to be as all-consuming now that Eisner is gone. In fact, a lot of the main issues people had with Disney during the 90's and early 2000's was a result of Eisner.Disney vs Lucas Arts in Personal More Like This
Since Eisner left, the Disney studio has done a REMARKABLE job in clearing their name of many of the atrocities they had committed during his regime. They promptly turned the animation department around and have even begun doing 2-D animated films again after Eisner said "no." Granted, at the moment 2-D is still in hiatus, but the situation isn't as dire as it use to be and there's still promise
Speed inking demoI got some requests to see the inking demo I gave at this years SDCC, so here it is posted up on YouTube [link] . I inked a panel from Superman #3, on sale today as a matter of fact, and penciled by Jim Lee.Speed inking demo in Personal More Like This
You'll see that I compressed about 45 minutes in real time down to about 3 minutes, but there are bits and pieces shown in real time. It was all inked with a brush just to speed up the process a bit. Let me know what you think...
CREATORS FIRSTI've been working towards this for six years.CREATORS FIRST in Personal More Like This
After struggling to make print work at Mam Tor (great reviews, lots of love, but prohibitive costs, too few sales) my big questions were:
How can I publish the stories I want to tell in a direct way, online?
How can I build a platform that lets OTHER people tell their stories too - because this needed to be about much more than just me.
It needed to be a grass-roots revolution.
It needed to be something that creators wanted, that served them.
In short it had to be a need.
The questions after that are many:
If you're in a digital space, what are the possibilities?
Can you build a digital audience first that can determine the need/want for print versions, and then facilitate that?
Can the creators keep their copyright?
How do you rethink the marketplace - and actually, CAN you?
And now here we are, and the tool has been built.
