What started on DeviantART 2 years ago has turned into a monolith of data. I hope you can put it to good use.

This is the federal discretionary budget. Your federal income taxes at work. You paid for part of everything in this graph whether you like it or not.

Tips on reading this graph
:bulletblue: The file is 2 megs so it might be slow loading. Another viewer is here [link]
:bulletblue: Read the center circle first.
:bulletblue: The graph is split into military funding on the right side and non-military funding on the left side, unless otherwise noted
:bulletblue: The departments on the left side are in loose clockwise alphabetical order, e.g. Agriculture, Commerce, Education, Energy...etc.
:bulletblue: Don't forget about the national debt! Its the circle so big it doesn't even fit in the box.

...

and don't forget to check out the website... www.TheBudgetGraph.com

also, for those who are interested in Social security, Medicare, Unemployment, and all that other spending...
i made a graphic just for you

_______.-== GET THE POSTER! ==-._________

--------------------------> [link] <--------------------------------

UPDATE: goes to print Monday, all typos will be corrected.

I created the initial concept of this poster on the night of November 4th. Inspired by Barack Obama’s victory and struck with a sense of awe when realizing the amount of hard fought progress that has been achieved in this country, I wanted to pay homage to this centuries long journey.

The original graphic became very popular and spread all over the internet. Many people loved it and ask me to make a print. While I initially created it rather spur of the moment and with no desire to sell it as a poster, the graphic needed to be completely overhauled in order to make it practical for printing. The original would have been 12 feet long. So I took the opportunity to really refine the design and create a lasting piece. There were also many additions to the time line that people suggested.

This poster is not a tally of African American achievements, rather it is a record of progress and setbacks. While Obama’s election is not the endgame of equality, it is a magnificent example of what is truly possible. I hope you enjoy it and that it reminds you of the shoulders we all stand upon and the stained greatness of this nation and its people who have indeed, overcome.

This piece got lost in a shuffle a while ago - the scandal is old, but the revelations are still important...

This piece involves a comment from George W. Bush Jr. made during an interview with Wolf Blitzer on CNN, September 24, 2006.

Here is the full quote:
Bush Jr.: Yes, you see — you see it on TV, and that’s the power of an enemy that is willing to kill innocent people. But there’s also an unbelievable will and resiliency by the Iraqi people…. Admittedly, it seems like a decade ago. I like to tell people when the final history is written on Iraq, it will look like just a comma because there is — my point is, there’s a strong will for democracy...

Trying to dismissing the four years of death and destruction as 'just a comma' seems almost unbelievable. A few pundits later claimed that Bush was making a nod to his right-wing religious base by working from Gracie Allen's famous quip, "never place a period where God has placed a comma." -- but honestly, do you think 'Mr. is-our-children-learning' can be so eloquent, even to his own followers?

Bush doesn't speak in code - he only speaks of his indifference to the disaster that he created by being indifferent to the possible consequences of his actions in the first place.

Call your congressman/woman. Call your Senator. Demand an end to the war. Demand justice: impeach Bush.

So, maybe it was 3 tons of explosive, maybe it was 377 tons. Point is, under the Bush administration's micro-management, US forces moved in to secure Iraq's oil fields, and ignored securing the dangerous weapons from falling into the hands of terrorists. Call me crazy - but wasn't keeping dangerous weapons out of the hands of terrorists the reason Bush claimed we were invading iraq?

Of all the critics of Bush's war of choice, this event has been the most revealing of why Bush insisted on invading Iraq, and why everything has gone so horribly wrong.

To you Bush supporters who still champion the war effort for all the good it's done - it's high time you realized that Bush never shared your priorities. We live in fear not because of terrorists, but because of the Bush administration's handling of terrorist actions.

What I find most frustrating is that the wars we are usually fighting are over the remaining land, water, and energy resources left. Yet, fighting these wars costs us unimaginable amounts of these ever depleting resources as well.

It's as if, after seeing a possible end to humanity in the distant future, our leaders have decided to RACE to that end with as much violence as possible.

There's no excuse for this. Hard times do not call for desperate measures -- that's a lazy and unimaginative view. Hard times demand cooperation.

First: I love america - I love the people and got very good friends over there
Second: I hate the Bush-government. As most dA members stated, he's a monkey, true - so here is one of his ways to bring democracy into the world.

I dont have anything against USA or the american people. But this guy, bush, i really dont like him. I dont live in the US, so i can't talk too much about it, but for what i see on TV, he is a very bad president, and a stupid man. Is not his fault, but i really dont like him. (Illustrator CS)

A simple work for :iconno-more-ignorance:
contest about Censorship [link]

“Its supposed that The Internet has evolved to become an increasingly important platform for advocates who wish to express their opinion freely and to work toward the development of democracy…”

I really believe that. All the freedom of expression must be on the march, and we must making an invention to the awareness this issue. So please send your artwork and support this refusal movement…
Sorry for my English!

“They wouldn't let me write about my opinions about the state
And freedom of expression they would never tolerate
And the military secrets that I never did steal
I didn't start no violence, and there was nobody that I killed…”

PLEASE DOWNLOAD PDF TO VIEW [link] - THIS JPG DOES NOT DO THIS PIECE JUSTICE!

Comments are much appreciated

This is quite possibly the hardest thing I have ever done.
It was extremely emotional to gather all of this information , and then assemble it. But I believe it has given me a better understanding of how I've gotten to where I am now.

This is the documentation of every intimate relationship I have ever had. The data spans 23 years.

This is my first shot at information design.

Total hours : round 80ish

Please take the time to download and view this, you may find it quite interesting.

The original is 32x24, so please zoom around the PDF to get the full effect.

As a note: I had considered removing the names before posting this, but decided it would not be proper of me to do so.

Notify me upon any use of this work.

Produced and designed with the help of my classmates and professor Phil Zelnar at Harrington College of Design in Chicago, IL
