schnotte is a German artist know for his photographs of rotting, decaying buildings and other dark themes. His camera explores architectural structures, but mostly to emphasize their coldness. The human figures in his photographs appear out of place, as if lost in filthy, forgotten, broken-down manufacturing machines, the cold, dark environments not built with humanity in mind. Looking through these images we can see the ghosts of the love that once inhabited his worlds and it is that love that still shines through his pictures. We are blown away by the beauty Schotte imbues to these deathly quiet scenes that are equally sad and uplifting

Staring is not the same as intently gazing into another person’s eyes as a manner of communication.
That can be a quite pleasurable experience. Staring into another’ eyes too often presages the delivery of a warning or very bad news. The fixed stare is the facial equivalent of a flashing amber light, indicating you should proceed but only with great caution. Keep that in mind as you peruse t

The vibrant digital paintings of alicexz are fiery, emotional, and incredibly memorable.
The colors of her creations (mostly portraits of popular TV and Film characters) are unusually vibrant, which is remarkable considering how layered they appear to be. It’s sort of like what manga characters might look like if painted by one of the Dutch Masters. And this artist exhibits just the right amount of quirkiness to leave us wanting to know more: she has a penchant for painting redheads. But, then of course, there’s a lot of red and golden fire burning through most her artworks.

It’s as if by waking up each morning into this beautiful world of natural colors, we are being given our bittersweet reward for surviving another year on the planet. We are regaled with a brief seasonal ceremony of the turning of the leaves, nature’s gift for our eyes as a promise she will soon return after her yearly rest. And then it’s time to let winter’s grey pallor unfold over us in blankets of dark cold rain and bright brisk snows; we sleep, the autumn’s leaves having promised

So, I have this friend from back home who I apparently grew up with. Although all my friends that I have known since I was 6 years old remember him, I do not. I have no memories of him until we became adults. Which is really weird because I remember everything.
Never the less, we still get a long. We talk once in awhile and although his rude way of hitting on me all the time can get annoying, I do find him hilarious in that he doesn't sugar coat anything. We get along, because we are alike in that way. For instance when I talk to him about my cancer, his response is "Yeah, you're gonna have that shit forever".
So this is our text conversation yesterday:
Him: How U

Contest Announcement~I am officially announcing my first contest, i have planned this for a month and finally i can officially announce itContest Announcement~ in Deviant Events More Like This
The idea of this contest is simple, draw one of my OCs Crow or Fox or both if you feel inspired!
They are my original characters. They are creatures with magic but that doesn't make the very special because they live in a world where many things are magical. Also they live in a forest. The place they live in has no cities or technology, only clans of different magical creatures. They have absolutely no contact with humans either although humans do exist in this world, these creatures just stay away from them. Fox is cunning and composed, while Crow is easily manipulated and sincere. Fox is blackmailing him and keeping him under her thumb because she wants to keep him close to her and that is the only way she knows how.

Critiquing, do's and dont'sSo i almost always request critiques on my art, and i also get a lot of them too (thank you so much guys/galls) and i've noticed some critiquers have some misconceptions about critiques, their role, how to do it, etc.Critiquing, do's and dont's in Deviant Events More Like This
Now i don't want to critique someone's critiuque, i rarely do that because people take it as being defensive about the art that is critiqued. So i'll just make this journal to hopefully inform/educate some of you about critiquing.
-If an artist requests critiques, and you have something to say about it then do use the critique widget to leave a critique. Don't critique in the comment's section though. I know some of you are more shy, but if you're bold enough to write a critique then put it in its proper place, that's what the widget is fore. This does not apply to artists who do not have a premium and can't requests critiques through the widget.

There are a few pretty important things to consider before publicly announcing you're opening commissions:
1. payment method. The deviantart commission widget takes 20% of your profit, but then again more deviants have points so you're likely to get 20% more customers like that. But don't forget there are people who have paypal and don't feel like dealing with points so if you decide to open commissions through deviantart, don't let that be the ONLY payment method.
Paypal is the most common payment method used online and i strongly recommend it. Make a paypal account, connect it to a card and you're ready. But don't forget paypal has a limit of $3000 per year withdrawal. So if you're serious about drawing art for a living and you

About originality in artMany deviants around here seem to think that if they have seen a type of work before then that means it's not original. So by that reasoning, if someone comes up with the weirdest thing in the world, than that makes him original and therefore better than the one that drew something that has been done before.About originality in art in Deviant Events More Like This
I'd like you to consider this for a while. Humanity has been around for thousands of years, almost anything an artist might think of drawing, has been drawn before. If an artist draws a portrait of a girl, that is so "unoriginal" you can literally find hundreds of thousands of such drawings.
Then should an artist stay away from drawing portraits?
Is an artist's work less valuable?
Consider this for a moment. There was an artist (if i can even call him that), that pooped in a box, and made an art show about it. He was definitely original and his work is very valued. There was another artist who put a shark in a tank and sold it for $12.000.000 dollars, (yes it's

The iPhone jitters and tap dances to its tune. The smooth brown flesh and bicolored painted nails draw in search across the wooden surface to make it cease. The hand grasps, wraps and removes. A small gleam of some sun hued yellow lamp, defused, reflects in the vacant polished haze of the dark wood surface. “mmmhh Hola? Yeah I am.” Silence measured in heartbeats, and then a woman’s moan; “Yes, she is. I’ll be there in ten minutes.”

The comments you guys left really helped me believe in myself. Thanks to everyone's encouragement, I know I wasn't in the wrong. I was able to firmly explain my problems with my father. It took many long and heated discussions before we finally came to an understanding but it was definitely worth it. He eventually admitted that he was wrong, and shouldn't have brushed me aside as being "too bothersome" or not worth angering his crazy wife for. He said he regrets the way he treated me, and has promised to try to visit me once a year. It's really hard to put into words how much that means to me, and I truly thank you all for helping me get to this point.

We've been over whelmed with comments and questions for the past week, so we would like to answer some frequently asked questions here!

A: Yep! Though shipping prices will be different than domestic orders. We are not in control of how much shipping companies charge.
Q: Do the cat ear speakers actually work?

I don't know if it's okay to send a note, I don't want to bother you. You faved my artwork, and I just wanted to thank you for that. I just saw your profile and I wanted to say: you are an AMAZING artist and great with story lines. Amazing talent. It's an honor to meet someone like you. I do a lot of art myself, but I'm nowhere as good as you are. I honestly don't know why a great artist like you faved my work. I don't think I'm worth the attention, since you're a way better artist than I'll ever be. But thanks a lot.
Honestly... the amount of comments I get like this nowadays is high.
And although I have to admit the whole I-like-your-art-thing is kinda flattering, it somehow still makes me sad.
Why all this buzz over a simple fave? It's DeviantArt! A digital collection of art. We are supposed to fave artwork that we like!
Why all this insecurity? Since when does the level of art
Conquer your artblockI think every artist out here has experienced it at least one time in their career: the so called artblock. A moment of total lack of inspiration that suddenly hits you, and leaves you unable to create. Most often the solution is to just wait. Most artblocks will solve automatically with time. But there are circumstances in which an artblock doesn't automatically disappear, or when you have deadlines to catch. In that case, you might be helped by some basic tips to conquer your artblock.Conquer your artblock in Deviant Events More Like This
Over the years, I've experienced an artblock (or writersblock, as they call it for fiction writers) many, many times. Most of them were short, but the longest lasted over 2 years. Most of them solved on their own. But sometimes I just needed that little bit of extra help. Therefore, I made a list with a few tips and tricks to make your artblock go away. Hopefully it'll help you as well as it did me.

Most artblocks come from fear. The fear of not being able to
EncouragementWhen I started out on DeviantArt, I used to be one of those artists that thought I could never do art properly.Encouragement in Deviant Events More Like This
I'll start saying that I spend most of my childhood getting only little encouragement.
My parents were, like many other parents, convinced that art wasn't that much of a useful skill since it's nearly impossible to earn money with -- and would've liked it if I spend my time doing something more useful instead. At school I was that pathetic kid without friends. Creative, yet very introverted. The one that gets bullied in the schoolyard. Needless to say; it was rare to find people saying something nice about me, and it was even more rare to find someone actually encouraging me.
Back then, I used to believe that I was alone. I initially signed up to DeviantArt to find people with similar interests. But it happened to change my mind along the way. When I came into contact with other artists, I came to realize that there were in fact many people just like me. People th

Don't worry about your age. Do not get discouraged by those that are younger than you and better. Some people start art when they are 6 years old and are prodigy's at age 16, others make a rather late or slow start. It doesn't matter if you're 10 or 80 years old. You're never too old to learn something new, and you're never too old to do something you enjoy.
Everybody has potential. Even the greatest masters in art started out as beginners. It just takes a lot of time and persistence.
Don't be afraid to fail. Most masters have failed more times than any beginner even tried.
We only see the best from other people, and compare it with our own average. For every amazing painting a good artist puts online, he probably made 100 failed sketches. Sketches you'll never see and you'll never know o
Don't forget to look backMany people say that looking back is a bad thing to do, because it makes you dwell on the past and is getting you nowhere.Don't forget to look back in Deviant Events More Like This
I beg to differ! Because I think it doesn't hurt to look back on what you already achieved, every once in a while.
In contrary; it can be a great motivation.
I came to DeviantArt, almost 7 years ago, with close to no expectations.
To provide you a bit of a background; As a kid, I used to show my drawings to all the people around me (to the level of sheer annoyance). And in the early years of the internet, I posted my writings and drawings on several Dutch forums, where I got quite the feedback on it. But as social media gradually took over the internet, and the small forums I used to reside on died a slow death, I realized the stage of getting feedback there would soon be over for me.
DeviantArt was in that sense the next place to move to. A community that wasn't killed by the influence of social media. But it was a hard place to move to.

Being happy with your artI've noticed lately, that there's this emotion that leaves people overwhelmed with the massive amount of good art in the community, thinking that they can never become as good or popular as those others. So sad, because skill or popularity in itself shouldn't be the major goal of an art community. I think many people who start out here get so overwhelmed that they forget what it's actually about.Being happy with your art in Deviant Events More Like This
Many people out here, sign up to DeviantArt (or any internet art community) in order to publish their work on the internet. They've probably looked around for a while already. They saw those amazing artists that had millions of pageviews, and secretly hoped that by putting their art on the internet, they would be able to do the same. To become madly popular -- a community icon.
Well, sorry to burst your bubble; but it's probably not gonna happen. And if it's gonna happen; it's not going to be soon.
According to DeviantArt, the website has over 31 million
That's how you get pageviewsAnd here you have the number one question that people ask me:That's how you get pageviews in Deviant Events More Like This
"How the hell did you get so many people to view your art? You're not even that good!"
I can't do anything other than honestly admitting that I'm not that good at art. I'm not some awesomely skilled concept artist, at least. I've seen many people do a better job while receiving a lot less of attention.
Why a medium like DeviantArt works for me? Probably because I've been around on the internet for so long, and I've spend so much time working for internet-marketing company's, that things like advertising and web usability have become a second nature to me. A lot of the things that I've come to regard as common sense in internet communication, are things that are nowadays proven successful by research.
It's important to know that websites like DeviantArt are listed in the category social media. That probably didn't occur to most people, since DeviantArt seems to be so heavily focused towards art (and tradi

Universal KissesThe world suffers from protoplasmic kisses from the sky. So close we are, we can almost feel it caressing our skin. The universe intimately in contact with us, worshiping us from such close proximity, it leaves us content but wishing, hoping, pleading for more. Can distance aggrandize the emotion we decree as love, or does it deteriorate such passion causing disintegration and expulsion of those feelings from our minds? There are clear skies that let us take in the universe, take in the sight of the stars, the black emptiness full to the brim, so much so that it pours out in undulating waves of darkness so beautiful, so bewitching, that we are left with infinitesimally small thought processes that go no further beyond the thought of simply stopping and gazing up. This chess board was created when I was fighting my own twinges of depression and while making it I had made one side to represent the depression and the other side to represent the joy in my life. I was inspired to make the chess board when Mi Vida said that he played chess and that we should play a game sometime. He talked about how he had made a chess board of his own when he was in high school and how he left it behind at the school as an example piece for the next year of students. And throughout the course of making the board I overcame the pangs of sorrow that I was feeling day in and day out.
This piece was inspired by a friend of mine. She was dating a man who saw her for only her body and it slowly started to taint her mind and her heart. There are no limbs nor a face to the woman because I wanted to show what men (not all, I don't mean to be prejudice in any way so I apologize to the men out there who are the most amazing p
Asexuality Myths and MisconceptionsThe first journal I wrote about asexuality and acephobia was liked by a lot of you, so I figured I would jump in with one touching on more of the myths that surround asexuality. I know a lot of my watchers are younger and are probably really confused about their sexuality (don't feel bad; so am I) so I'm going to try to put this into the simplest context so it's easier to understand for those that may think they're asexual but aren't completely sure yet.Asexuality Myths and Misconceptions in Personal More Like This
If you don't like or agree with anything I say here, feel free to hit the back button. I'd rather not deal with rudeness in the comments but if you insist on being an ass, go right ahead. I love watching people make idiots of themselves.
Asexuals don't exist.
Yes, they do. Not feeling sexual attraction towards someone is not a sin, a disease, or nonexistent. Ace people exist just as much as people of any other sexuality.
If you're truly asexual, you're unable to feel any arousal at all.

Did you ever stop to think that people over the internet aren't just AIs you can say whatever you feel like saying to? When someone sits around playing violent video games, draws bloody "vent art", talks about how "screwed up" they are because they have crushes on fictional serial killers/watch horror films/etc., then they turn right around and freak because someone draws something that's too graphic for them.
Like really I thought you said you were sick and twisted? Please. The only thing twisted here is your hypocrisy.
I know my horror art's not the scariest in the world but I'm working on it. I just have a hard time drawing what I see in my head, plus I can't exactly draw what I really, really want to draw and post it without being kicked off dA. Okay, before anyone says anything, let me clarify: I understand if you're against same-sex relations due to religious reasons. I get that. I'm a Christian who comes from a Christian family (and most of them have been talking shit about the ruling ever since it was passed.)
What I don't get is why some people insist on being dicks about it. Yes, I know, you want the world to be a perfectly 'Christian-friendly' and God-fearing place, but did you know that gay people can be Christian too? Did you know that we're supposed to be spreading love and acceptance instead of hate and rejection? Did you know that saying what God does and doesn't approve of is blasphemy and you're being more of an obnoxious little prick than you are a decent Christian person by saying stuff like "oh, the world's going to hell" and "God hates you all" just becaus

Guess Who's Back?Hello all. How have you been?Guess Who's Back? in Personal More Like This
Well...I decided to come back to dA. The main reason I'm coming back is because I need artistic inspiration and I figured being in an artistic environment may help with that. I confess that I've barely drawn since I've been gone and have been terribly art blocked since May 1st... horrid.
I also confess to not feeling much better at all, but then again...perhaps being around more people will help? I've been changing so many things about my life, from my living arrangements to my hair in an attempt to feel comfortable in my own skin and happy again but the depression's still very much alive and kicking. I wish it would kindly piss off.
Anyway, I hope you've all been doing well and haven't completely forgotten me. I certainly haven't forgotten you.
