This gentle kirin is a rare creature from Japanese mythology, said to bring peace and serenity to all who see her. Her name is Jytte. She likes strong coffee and sitting next to warm fires, she also has a bit of a fascination with skulls. Her favourite season is winter, especially mid-winter nights, where you can see all the stars in the sky and sometimes a shooting star if you’re lucky.
She is a mixed media art doll made to display proudly in your home. She has been made independently by me from start to finish in my garden studio in Scotland, and as such will have handmade and unique details. You can read more information via this link.
Want to know more about the process?
Jytte started life as a lump of wax based clay, which I sculpted and formed into the kirin you see before you. I then made a mould of these parts from silicone, and cast them in resin, using specialist equipment to ensure the casts are of the highest quality. Resin is a form of plastic and can withstand being dropped from quite a height, it is very sturdy. Each part is checked for defects, then painted with artists acrylics. They are then varnished with a mix of matt and gloss varnishes for protection against dust, knocks and drops.
Her body has been machine stitched from a smooth polyester fabric known as cuddlesoft. (I used to hand-stitch all my dolls but machine stitching takes a little less time and is also a stronger stitch.) Tail tuft and mane accents are 100% polyester, they are top quality fake fur. Her body is stuffed with polyester toy stuffing and weighted with steel shot.
A truly unique piece made by an independent Scottish artist, Jytte is highly collectable and I guarantee she will make your heart melt when you see her in person.
Jackalopes are mythical creatures that look like rabbits with a big set of antlers. They originated as a myth in America but I’ve seen a lot of them in my garden, especially over the past month or so. Must be Spring fever, there are lots of little jackabunnies hopping around.
These little art dolls have resin parts cast from my original wax sculpture. They have been painted with enamels and can withstand knocks and drops. They have steel shot in their bums for stability, little woollen pom-pom tails and posable arms! That’s right, you can move the arms of these cuties to give them different excitable expressions!
They measure approximately 6cm tall, that’s about 2.5”, and weigh around 35g. The fifth photo is of a cappucino coloured jackabunny next to a ruler to show scale.
These art dolls are 100% vegan friendly and Made in Scotland.
