What is it about a fictional character first introduced to the public in Great Britain in 1887 that has kept him being reincarnated, with generationally-correct upgrades, over and over again in film and on television? It’s rare that a “new” iconic monster is born and becomes forever identifiable,—— no matter the variations, by generation after generation. So it was when George Romero created the ultimate “zombie” in his Night of the Living Dead in 1968. Zombie Apocalypse fans today may have never heard of George or seen the original “Night,” but the zombies they so love in fare like The Walking Dead owe their existence to Romero’s original vision.

Why Cynical Improvement Is Bad For YouSince we're on the subject of taboos, I feel it necessary to talk about this one. This one pisses me off and it's very much a cornerstone to a bigger issue with our artistic community: The idea and assumption that as an artist you MUST improve at all times. 24/7. No exceptions. Every work you produce must be 10x better than your last. You must constantly strive for perfection. To ignore this "truth" is to commit the terrible sin of rejecting the very concept of improvement, and you will never break out of your "comfort zone."Why Cynical Improvement Is Bad For You in Personal More Like This
I'm here to tell you that this is hogwash.
You should strive to improve. Never say that I don't encourage improvement. It's why you go to school, why you go to college, and why after college you continue to work on your art. You always want to be better. The problem is that far too many people have a strictly binary concept of what "better" is and on how to "improve."
First off, there is no pinnacle of perfection. There is no

Someone linked me this video after seeing my Fashion Savvy Samus comic, and it quickly became apparent that a LOT of people defending Samus’s god-awful rocket boots were using THIS as their basis for argument. So, since this is the internet, I’m gonna respond to this video interjecting whenever I hear something I agree or disagree with.
1. I agree that we should separate Other M Samus from the rest of cannon based on the fact that it was conceived over a retcon of the character.
2. I agree that a lot of the hatred for Other M Samus came from her BADLY localized English translation and voice acting. I’ve stated many times that if the game had been left in Japanese with English subtitles, I sincerely doubt as many people would’ve had a problem with her “monologuing” than they do with the English version.
3. I do not agree that you should be “offended” that mal
What's Wrong With Praise? So this is another one of those artistic taboos we're never suppose to talk about, apparently. The idea of giving back positive feedback to an artist. It's seen as "coddling" as "babying" as "inflating the ego" and has such intense negative associations. It seems to be generally accepted that the only way to critique someone's work is to point out ONLY the negative parts. Any attempt to point out anything positive or something you liked about the work is seen as being unhelpful towards the artist's growth. What's Wrong With Praise? in Personal More Like This
And frankly I think that's a bunch of hogwash.
Speaking from my own experience, I rarely ever get anything positive said about my work in a constructive way. I might get a lot of "good jobs" or people talking happily about my comics because they made them laugh, but I rarely if ever get any comments that go into detail explaining WHY I did something right. On the flip side, the amount of negative criticism and nitpicking is almost hilariously rampant, not just on my artwork but on th

A lot of you probably wonder where the hell our mobile apps are. I do. Quick answer: They're trapped under a bigger project. It's worth the wait, but we're far overdue on release. The biggest problem has been the Message Center, whose architecture, look and feel, etc. simply doesn't port over to Mobile & Tablets. For these, we need to streamline the incredibly powerful experience of deviantART's message center, so that it can be consumed on smaller screens without having to click lots of buttons.
Activity Feeds are supposed to be the obvious solution. But at deviantART, people love their Message Centers specifically because they aren't feeds. Each item from your +watch list, or Feedback area comes in as an item. Each item must be removed from the Message Center by you. This is great because it allows us to

The deviantWATCH lives within Messages, which contains within it Feedback, Notices, etc. as well. deviantWATCH messages come in like crazy in your message center once you are watching 20+ people. And of the folks reading my Journal, I know you guys tend to have over 100+ people that you +WATCH.

Theatrics aside, it made me ponder on why Britain has this villainous reputation, and I started to compile a list:
The British Empire was the biggest drug-dealing organisation in history and made a fortune selling opium to China. In the mid 19th century, when the Chinese Emperor tried to stop them, they sent in The Nemesis – basically the Death Star of the era – which proceeded to decimate the entire Chinese fleet. Then they stole Hong Kong.

Comedy films are the best example of this practice. I’ll see them eventually, but they almost never tempt me into a cinema viewing.
The Interview however, I may go to see twice. I don’t have any kind of inside knowledge about how funny it will be, nor does the known plot scream “must see!”. I’m simply going to make a point of catching it at the flicks out of pure spite toward the hacking group who are making terror threats over it.
The Interview is about a celebrity journalist and his producer, who land an interview with the leader of North Korea. The CIA recruit the duo and charge them with the task of assassinating him.

Thanks to the rebellion/revolution, the British Government changed the way it conducted itself so as to ensure such an incident would never happen again.
Had they not, a revolution similar to that seen in France, 1789, would have very likely occurred on home turf.
The French leadership maintained their "all powerful" façade, and in assisting the American colonies, spent a fortune. This further angered their already irate people, who, in seeing that it could be done, decided to have a little revolution of their own.
So, with the economy booming thanks to renewed transatlantic trade between Fair Blighty and the newly formed United States and with Britain's arch enemy France focused on tearing itself apart, there was nothing to stop the Empire's expansion.

The majority of so-called "right wing" Americans, including virtually all of those with any political or social power, very vocally hold at least one of the following sentiments. I've included links to a few, in case you start to doubt that real people could ever actually say things like these:

-Nothing can "confuse" children into becoming homosexual. You don't just accidentally stumble into a sexual orientation because that orientation is tolerated by society.
-At no point did I compare you to a klansman. I said "is it an ad hominem to call a Klansman a bigot?" because you made bigoted statements and then accused others of "ad hominem" attacks. In no way does this imply that you are exactly like them, although the fact that you "don't condone violence" (allegedly) does not make your sentiments any nobler or more correct than the underlying philosophy of any other hate movement. This is especially nothing at all like your comparison to LGBT's as a form
