Shikamaru continued signing the after action reports, ignoring the loud music and the raucous laughter outside. Parties just weren’t his thing, even a blowout to celebrate the end of the Fourth Great War.
Even after he had dismissed them, his squad mates had tried their best to convince him to join them in the festivities. Ino had practically danced back into the tent, her long blonde hair flowing behind her, giving him a forced, flirtatious wink from under her long bangs. “Come with us Shikamaru!” she had teased, smiling through her sorrow and loss, but it didn’t reach her eyes. “The war’s over! We won! Surely we can forget the paperwork and live a little!”
Ino had been drowning in her grief; she desperately needed an escape from the reality of things dragging her down. She had held them all together. Tiles moved on his mental bo

Aibhlinn was gutting fish in the early morning fog with her family. It had been a terrific catch and the entire village had been working hard all night to prepare the fish for preservation. They had run out of salt already, so mum was building up the fire to smoke the rest of the fish.
The smoke smelled heavy in the still air, which covered the stink of the fish guts a little.
Struan and some of his friends had gone out to the forest to get more wood, mainly branches to set the fish on. Aibhlinn liked Struan. He was a strapping lad, he made her feel a little funny inside and she tended to giggle for no reason whenever he looked at her. She was almost of age to start walking out with him. She was hoping so hard he would ask her, she tried to be near him as much as she could. He looked at her sometimes with such a gentle look on his face. Her pretty brown braids were falling apart from all the work, but she would make herself look extra good after a go

Flynn Rider slammed the shutters closed, finally safe from that stupid (okay, not so stupid) horse.
"Alone at last." Flynn said as he opened the satchel and pulled out the crown. He moved to a tall thin window and held it in the light, the jewels sparkling in the light. The three huge jewels that were most prominent on the crown were amazing. He found himself counting and categorizing all the lesser jewels that encrusted the crown as well. He had a buyer all ready and after ditching the Stabbington brothers he was going to take their cuts as well, more then enough for his island.
Soon enough though the excitement over the crown wore off and he looked around. The room was plain, there were a couple of chairs (the red one looked comfy enough), a wardrobe (he'd want to check that out for valuables), a spinning wheel (big deal), a neat little kitchen (he'd rummage through that, he was beginning to get hungry), a h

Fergus placed a bow on the dinner table by his wife’s plate.
“Fergus, no weapons on the table,” Queen Elinor said out of habit not looking up from the letter she was reading.
“You know lass, I keep wondering why you say that.”
“Oh, my mum always made us do that so we would take the time to talk instead of fiddle with our weapons,” said Elinor.
Fergus thought for a moment. “If it is so important to talk, why do you read so much at the table?”
Elinor blinked. She looked up and looked at her husband, daughter and sons. Then she looked back at the letter and folded it up and put it away. “You’re right, I should spend my time with you and not with some letters.”
“Have there been anymore raids?” asked Merida.
“Not so far this week, there have been three so far this summer but putting extra men to the coastal towns aren’t stopping them. We need to do something different.

Eugene worked his lock-picks into the shackles. He could feel the rust in the mechanism. How many years had it been since they were last opened?
Solara whimpered as his face screwed up in anger.
"It's okay. I'm sorry, it's just a bit rusty. I'll get you out in just a minute." Eugene said trying to reassure the Lost Princess and calm himself. Then the lock clicked and the shackled fell free.
Solara just stared at her free wrist for a long moment while Eugene got to work on the other. She started moving her free wrist around, a look of wonder on her face as her arm felt so weightless without the heavy shackle on it or having to move her other arm with it.
"There you go. You're finally free," said Eugene, smiling, as the other lock clicked open.
Solara turned and jumped around the room, her arms flailing wildly as she felt so free. Eugene smiled, as he caught the crown, that flew off her head. She was sure taking delight in her new

Hiccup woke up to the sound of Toothless’ teeth extending, which made him sit up and look around really quickly. It was really early in the morning, a torch was guttering low on the wall by the kitchen. In front of Toothless were four young children. Three were redheads, Merida had introduced them as Harris, Hubert and Hammish, but he had no idea who was whom. Merida seemed to have no problem with it though.
There was another child, a little blonde girl about the same age as the boys. She had a halo of messy blonde hair, that told Hiccup that she must be related to Lord MacGuffin. Elinor had told him that all he had to do was retrieve Merida from the dungeon during a mock raid. The idea seemed a bit odd, but it made a weird kind of sense, most of the interactions between the Viking and the Highlands had been raids and they were acknowledging that.
Hiccup was hoping that there wouldn’t be too many injuries. Elinor had confided in him that she was hoping this would also tire everyone so the new couple could have a quiet night together.
Elinor had just locked him into this dark room. Merida was in here somewhere, but how to find her. He waited as his eyes tried to adjust to the darkness. The slave chain on his belt clanked gently.

The Memoirs of Mother GothelFirst of all, let me get one thing straight: I am sorry. The Memoirs of Mother Gothel in Short Stories More Like This
I, Mother Gothel, witch extraordinaire, (formerly) the only person to have eternal youth and beauty, caring (even if slightly smothering and manipulative) mother, and master at dramatic exits, am sorry.
I'm sorry for the way I treated my flower, Rapunzel.
I'm sorry for keeping the real flower all to myself.
I'm sorry for attempting to kill Flynn Rider.
And yes, I'm even sorry for kicking Pascal (for some reason, people seem to think that's the worst offense, that chameleon sure does have quite a fan club).
I'm sorry for, well, everything.
Another thing I'd like the world to know now that I'm, ah, dead (Freakin' chameleon!), is that, yeah, at first, I did only see Rapunzel as a walking Fountain of Youth. I admit it. For a while, that was the only reason I kept her locked up. But, as time went on, I grew fond of the child. She really was sweet and her clumsiness was quite endearing. And she really did view me as her mama

The question had broken through his darken bedroom as she snuggled against his chest. It was their first night at the castle, and the reason why the palace guards had patrolled Eugene's room to make sure he stayed put. They didn't, however, take their newly found princess as the sneaking type.

I pull my wooden, splintering door wide open, and then slam it shut almost as quickly as I opened it. I lean against it as fire shoots through the slats of wood; I try my best to ignore how the wood is now going from warm to burning hot. I am certain that the fire is illuminating my gangly

"Today is about teamwork. Work together and you might survive." Gobber announces with a somewhat manic grin. A large door slowly opens. Gas seeps through the cracks. It suddenly blasts open. A cloud of smoke engulfs the ring, swirling around the paired-up teens, Astrid with Ruffnut, Snotlout with Tuffnut, Fishlegs with Hiccup and Merida was by herself but had two buckets instead of just one to make things fair. She seemed completely fine, not noticing how she was being looked at as if to say 'why haven't they put you with someone? You could die' by everyone except Astrid-who really couldn't care-and Gobber-who really saw nothing wrong with the arrangement. All carry buckets of water, poised to throw them.
Gobber continues his speech. "Now, a wet dragon head can't light its fire. The Hideous Zippleback is extra tricky. One head breathes gas, the other head lights it. Your job is to know which is which."

She looked at Eugene with a puzzled look. They were walking out in the palace gardens, coming up beside the flowing fountain. She faced him, almost not recognizing the moment. But she had a feeling... "Happy with you? I'm more than happy with you. I'm I'm complete with you." Rapunzel took his hand, holding it close.
He pulled her close and decided the moment had come. It had been long enough. And he wasn't waiting any longer.
"If you are complete with me." He smiled as she put a hand on his chest. "And you love me. Then, Rapunzel, will you marry me?"
She let his question linger. She had wondered when he would ask her. She had actually asked him twice less than a year before. But he had refused. She had dropped it, not expecting anything more. Somehow their hearts had not intertwined like they should have. And now now they were inseparable and perfect together. And his question was just in time.

She'd been reunited with her parents, a joyful account. Her smile and her peace were enough to create the largest celebration the kingdom had ever seen. She'd took it all in, looking on way, greeting someone another way. But deep within her soul, there was something someone missing.
Quiet, in the middle of the night, her scream. The nightmares were scary monsters. Her new mother would come running, huddling with her deep within the confines of the bed. Her tears were large.

A lot would say she did.
I say no.
Mother Gothel had one motive: keep the flower close to her. Now, why on earth did she need that flower? Was it because she wanted to use it for good, or was she just really desiring to live another day? That is one question I can't answer. But I do know that she when she found that flower, she was hell bent on keeping it.
When it was found by the soldiers of the Kingdom of Corona, she knew she needed that flower back. Unfortunately, the flower was made into a broth and given to the Queen. What was she going to do now?
Mother Gothel must have guessed that the newborn baby to the Royal Couple, with her flowing blond hair, had that flower within her. Right? Well, she was right, as we know. She got into the castle, found the baby, and with one snip, found out she was going to have to take the baby.
Did she love Rapunzel then? No. The only reason she took Rapunzel was for her hair

At fifteen, Eugene Fitzherbert was finding that he had no purpose in life. He was an orphan - an illegitimate orphan at that. His mother was dead, and if he cared, he'd try contacting his father. But he wasn't in the mood nor in the right place in society to go banging down a manor's front step.
Things looked grim. In a year, he'd be out of the orphanage. In a year, he'd have no place to stay. He was a trouble maker. He got into a lot of fights. How was he going to hold any sort of job?
He wasn't either. He KNEW he wasn't well-born - he was an illegitimate son of Lord Herbert. His father was some scum that held a high honor in the kingdom. And to Eugene, that meant little. A father that abandoned their son, even an illegitimate one, didn't have a right to be a father.
Common PracticeA year after Princess Rapunzel, as her name stayed, was returned to her rightful spot as Princess in her kingdom of Corona, her father, the King, decided to host a grand ball. It would be a festive time, he was hoping, for his daughter, so that she may meet other eligible individuals of royal blood that may one day, hopefully, be a suitor. It did go to say, in a large way, that he was not very approving of Eugene Fitzherbert, commoner and wanna-be criminal.Common Practice in Fan Fiction More Like This
In almost Cinderella fashion, apart from simple townspeople being the guests, Princes from surrounding Kingdoms and countries started showing up to the castle, greeting the Princess and promising a dance. The ball was in two days, and Rapunzel was finding it a bother. Her father had all but decided she would marry royal blood - and not the one she loved.
Eugene was amused by her father's unspoken commands and kept to himself, apart from spending as much time with Rapunzel as she could get away from the mess of her palace life: greet

Loneliness pacing up and down these hallways
Secondguessing every thought
Mystified, just spinning 'round in circles
Drowning in the silent screaming with nothing left to say
Everything happened in slow motion
She didn't even react. No emotion
Not in the .05 seconds it took to seal our fate
I didn't have to wait
The look in her eyes told me everything
We had been winning
Everytime I reach for you, there's no one there to hold on to
Nothing left for me to miss, I'm letting go, letting go of this
Lost my mind thinking it through, the light inside has left me too
Now I know what empty is, I've had enough, I've had enough of this.
I push through the crowd, tears in my eyes
I can't control my hurt. I thought the council would be wise
But they were going to kill him
Things had never looked so grim

Without hesitation, he walked into the closet, eyes open, ears listening. "Rapunzel?"
A mournful whine came from the far right corner, beside a row a pink-lavender ballroom dresses. Two tiny feet could be seen, but the rest of her was hidden.
Slowly advancing, he knelt before the feet, eyes filled with concern. "What's wrong?"
A gulp. A soft sob. "I'm ugly!"
Anger burned in his eyes for but a second, instantly turning to remorse. "Who said it?"
"No one did," she barely whispered, hidden within the shadows, within the folds of multiple dresses.
It didn't make sense. If no one had insulted her

Rapunzel ran with all her might. Her hair caught in a branch and the two brothers of whom she didn't want to associate with advanced on her. She wanted to scream, cry, forever run and tell them to stay away, but no voice came from her lips. She tugged at her hair, fearful. Why, why Eugene? Why did you leave me with these two? I I won't last. She shivered as she felt tears come to her eyes. Dark had come and with it, any chance of survival.
The sack loomed closer as both Stabbington brothers encircled her. She couldn't run, couldn't get free. She couldn't breathe as she silently screamed inside, beyond terrified. The one with the eye patch, that she would soon learn was named Rayne, grabbed her with his two rough hands as his brother, Troy, held the sack open. Rapunzel started to cry as they dropped her in like she was nothing but a potato, closing the opening tightly. She was going to be used sold. Forever gone from the world she

The Tales of Flynn RiderAfter finishing his chores around the orphanage, a young boy flopped back on his bunk. Eugene Fitzherbert had lost his home, little sister, and parents in a terrible fire the year before. He reached over to the small bedside table and grabbed the only possession he was able to save from the fiery inferno. It was a book that Eugene's father had given him for his last birthday. Eugene glanced over the top of the book to see all the younger children looking eagerly at him. "What?"
There was a murmur among the kids before they pushed a girl, not
