A New Wind Lifts Storytelling
First imagined as a bedtime tale for his son by Kenneth Grahame in 1908, The Wind in the Willows has remained in the top twenty children’s stories ever since. But things have been getting weird out in the Willows, as the new comic on deviantART, Weirding Willows, will attest to.
Badger, Mole, Ratty and Mr. Toad are back… but they’re joined by Alice, Frankenstein’s Monster, Mowgli, The White Rabbit, Peter Rabbit and Benjamin Bunny as they defend the world from the Wicked Witch of the West, Doctor Moreau, the Mad Hatter, Mister Hyde and the Queen of Hearts (not to mention the flying nightmare monkeys from Wizard of Oz.)

Liam Sharp was and is one of the most sought after comic artists in the business. After bursting on the scene by drawing the bestselling Marvel UK title of all time, Death Head II, he was back in America illustrating top line comics like Superman, Batman and Spiderman as well as special projects for people like Stan Winston. For anyone unfamiliar with his amazing work, his galleries can be found on deviantART. I recently got lost for an entire day perusing a single file of his Conan illustrations.

Two words that define so much in a persons head, not so much about who did/does what but, about who created the whole character, the concept, the supporting cast…
Picture this (in an awesome Rod Sterling voice); a talented artist sits alone in his studio wanting to be appreciated for his ideas as well as his artistic talents. On his drawing board sits a rendering of a superhero. This character is dark and brooding, like any good piece of art it speaks volumes. We can see he is angry, that he prefers to serve his form of justice at night and violently. The poor state of his costume shows that he has either had a bad night or that he lacks the wealth of a Bruce Wayne. Along the bottom is written "THE MIDNIGHT FREAK".
Ding – dong. The doorbell rings and his friend turns up with whom he is going to see a movie, this friend is a writer.
So the writer sees the drawing and thinks it is amazing, what's more it inspires him to come up with ideas that the artist didn't. Now the arti

Can of frickin' worms, mate. To me I see the act of creation being two initial levels. The character or concept comes first then the secondary characters and environments follow. This later level can cause the most problems with creators and who gets the proper or appropriate credit.
I mean, let's take Batman for instance. He was created solely by Bob Kane, right?
Met Bob Kane once, never talked to him about those early days, but I do know that he didn't create Batman.

There is often talk of cycles in comics, how readers turn over every 3/4/5/25 years, booms and busts, everyone is leaving for Hollywood, kids don't read comics because of video games
Do you know how many are true?
Probably all of them. Twenty-odd years ago, it was the established fact that the majority of comic book readers came and went in three years. Most of the market wasn't around long enough to even notice that certain characters came back time after time.
The comic book industry has had its own share of recessions. Had its fair share of booms too. Maybe more than its fair share, fighting against nature some might say.

Links to pages on deviantART can quickly be distinguished by their bold, dark-blue color, while external links are darker and have an arrow indicating you are leaving deviantART.
Deviants you mention are notified in the new Mentions section of the Message Center, making engaging and involving others in conversation a simple, hassle-free experience.

When you're young, your teenage years can't come soon enough. Thirteen was fun, but with a whole year as a teenager under your belt, you start to get perspective on what it means to grow up. You're not there yet, but the path ahead is clear and inspiring.
At 14, you start taking on responsibilities and testing out maturity, while continuing to reach for the stars and fostering the creativity that's such an integral part of your life.
DeviantArt's 14th birthday marks the ushering in of this new chapter. For the past year, we've gained perspective on where our journey should lead us next, and we couldn't be more thrilled to share it with you and have you with us every step of th

The team here at DeviantArt continues to listen to your feedback plus we met with a crew of super-deviants in NYC last month (check out a pic below and got a full, insightful download. Ok, getting into it, I want to share a sneak peek on work-in-progress (as in not final!) designs for the new Today page and to hear what everybody thinks.

We found major talent to join the DeviantArt team this year to help us assume responsibility for major change and deliver on it. In return, we will be calling on the whole community to exercise its responsibility of continuing to shape DeviantArt into the place where the global undercurrent of creativity feeds the future of popular culture.
DeviantArt is as binary as it is digital in its platform. We serve equally those who produce art as those who need to see art and engage with it. Creating the undercurrent is a function of tools as much as it is a function of community activity. Getting these two to work in unison has always been the secret sauce of DeviantArt – and every recipe for the sauce begins

The event this year was brilliant. We are so incredibly proud of every exhibiting artist in the alley. And today, we're just as war-torn and beaten up from all the action as you are. Walkthroughs, alongside tutorials, are always an excellent way to learn. It's really helpful to get educated through a tutorial which tells exactly what to do in a detailed way step by step. However at times what is even more helpful is to actually see the artist in action, there are things you need to see get done by yourself and here is where walkthroughs come into play.
There's always something fascinating about seeing the different stages of the creation process of a piece, and you can always learn from the artists and adapt part of said process to your own.
Besides showing part of this process through images which show the different stages of a piece, and
