All Snapped Up .3 ~ melvynyeo~ An interview of a talented artist in our General Photography CommunityAll Snapped Up .3 ~ melvynyeo in Art Features More Like This
*melvynyeo, tell us a bit about yourself. How did you get into photography and why?
My name is Melvyn and I’m a designer. Photography has been my passion and hobby ever since I picked up a point and shoot camera 7 years ago. My main “focus” has always been insect macrophotography.
Why are you on deviantART and what makes you stay?
I chanced upon deviantART when searching for photos on the net for inspiration about 6 years ago. What really amazed me and make me stay is because there are so many talented people actively participating in deviantART. It is like a big big family of artists and photographers!
What type of photography do you most like to do and why?
I do landscape, portrait and events but my main passion is always macro photography.

I somehow managed to get one of the more weirdly named prizes in the Masquerade for my C.C. artbook costume, I was in a bit of a daze at the time but it had something to do with how big my dress was. (I must add that no small people or orphans were harmed carrying around my voluminous skirts all weekend! John will remember the full name of it no doubt, I was too busy at the time trying not to throw up from nerves lol )
So, now thats over and done with I will do stock as soon as I find some convenient time. It was far too bloody cold at the weekend to take more than 1 or 2 shots just to show the dress off.
I still also have snow shots to post from earlier in the year.

Texture Your World ContestTell us the story of your world in textures!Texture Your World Contest in Art Features More Like This
We are surrounded 24 hours a day by objects that have texture, they may be smooth or bobbly, old or new, bold, bright, shiny or dull. You might see a texture every day and never notice it until you start looking. Do you sit at a desk that's textured, or pass an interesting tree on the way to work or school?
We want you, in the form of a triptych (thats 3 images forming a larger image see example here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triptych ) to tell us the story of your textured world. Each individual texture should stand on its own, both as a useful resource and as a cohesive part of the whole story. What story you tell through your texture triptych is up to you - but they must be textures that tell a story of your world in some way.
There are 3 categories for this contest, each of which you can submit to twice.

Precut stock - all the problems :/
Precut stock is something that like Marmite, people either love, or hate. Either way it brings its own special issues to stock providers and photomanipulators alike, so I've highlighted some very important points you should take into consideration below.
Precut stock is in its very nature "EDITED" therefore its is no longer in its original photographic form and should therefore be posted to resources/clipart OR stock/premade backgrounds/.. NOT to the usual stock galleries which should be reserved for original photography that has only very minor post production edits such as exposure/brightness/contrast etc. alterations according to DA's gallery definitions.

Wednesday, Preview Night of Comic-Con
Wednesday, July 17, 2013
When the bustle of tourists in Downtown San Diego is replaced by the flailing of fandoms, and the street signs around the Convention Center have changed from English to Dothraki (not Klingon, like past years), you know it’s time for San Diego Comic-Con 2013!
Wednesday the 17th kicked off this year’s Preview Night, and energy was high as this year’s Comic-Con sprang into motion with a flurry of activity. Many attendees treat the three-hour preview as a time to scan the showroom floor, mentally map places to hit on the later dates, and, of course, buy the must-have items that may be gone by Con’s end. There’s not a lot of cosplaying -- although there is some -- and vendors as
Sunday, Day 4 of Comic-ConNo matter how tired your feet are by what is actually Day 5 of Comic-Con, counting Preview Night, no matter how exhausted your body and empty your wallet, there's always a bit of sadness in the air when the last few hours of Comic-Con wind down.Sunday, Day 4 of Comic-Con in DeviantART Announcements More Like This
In the deviantART booth, we witnessed something a little magical when the voice came over the loudspeaker to announce that Comic-Con was closed at 5:00 pm sharp, the remaining straggling attendees and exhibitors packing up stopped what they were doing and burst into applause. It was a mixture of relief, pride, and fulfillment of a successful convention.
Someone yelled, "See you in 365 days!" and there was a true moment of community with everyone in earshot. Sure, it's a sad sentiment, but it gives us all something to look forward to, and the months ahead will be filled with the happy memories of all we accomplished over the past week. Friends met that stop by every year, new friends, new properties to become fans of, new comic books to read and
Thursday, Day 1 of Comic-ConThursday was the first full day of Comic-Con, and artists, cosplayers, and fans (oh, my!) strapped on their most comfortable Con Shoes and continued rocking out in San Diego. It was also the day of deviantART's first panel, "How-To: Motion Books," which was so inspiring, audience members nearly had to be physically removed from the premises because the conversations ended long after they took the microphones away.Thursday, Day 1 of Comic-Con in DeviantART Announcements More Like This
Sitting on the panel were $spyed and $techgnotic from deviantART, *BenWolstenholme, =LiamSharp, and *nunyerbidniss from Madefire, and *davegibbons, perhaps best-known for his collaboration with Alan Moore on "Watchmen." The topic was an explanation of the recent partnership of Madefire and deviantART -- who met at Comic-Con j
Saturday, Day 3 of Comic-ConSaturdays mean the kids at Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters and the adults at Stark Enterprises alike are free to spend the weekend as they please! For them as well as zombies and time lords, to whom weekends mean nothing, Saturday in San Diego was one of the most packed days of the convention yet!Saturday, Day 3 of Comic-Con in DeviantART Announcements More Like This
DeviantART staffers continued showering visitors with stress balls, collectible pins, and swapped stories of their favorite deviantART experiences. It's a long day, but hearing some of the inspirational stories that originate from our humble corner of the Internet are truly inspiring.
Our final Comic-Con panel was held at 12:15 pm, and the topic was "How-To: Creator vs. Audience." Ron Martino ($techgnotic) led the panel, which talked about how the digital nature of storytelling on deviantART is changing the way the world interacts with its audiences. Alongside him were Wenqing Yan (`yuumei), Brian Kesinger (*BrianKesinger), Dave Elliott (=DeevElliott), and Hal Hefne
Friday, Day 2 of Comic-ConComic-Con Veterans know there's an ebb and flow of patrons as the week progresses. While Preview Night can be frenzied with excitement for the con to come, there's also a notable saving of energy, knowing that the scant few hours of the first day will be nothing compared to the full-day smorgasbord for the remaining 4 days of the week. Thursday seems even more crazed by comparison, but of course, not all con-goers can get a weekday off. By Friday, electricity is buzzing in the air as cosplayers bust out their second outfit, comic-lovers bust out their second wallets, and area convenience stores are running dangerously low on comfy insoles and 5-Hour Energy Drinks.Friday, Day 2 of Comic-Con in DeviantART Announcements More Like This
DeviantART's second Comic-Con panel began at noon, and the topic was How-To: The Business of Fan Art. After last year's hugely successful

"What is wrong with people these days?"
I've definitely said the top two before, but even after this awful week, I want to make a concentrated effort not to say things like that anymore.
It can be hard to remember, but people like the ones in the news recently are not typical. Sane, rational people are the vast, vast majority. Good and kind people make up the society around you. For every rude person who ruins our day, or jerk who shouts something at you in traffic, there are hundreds and thousands more who have pleasant interactions with you that you may not even notice. Why? Because you expect it. And I think it's oka

Oh, btw, because of the new Journal portal we learned we were having a bit of a spam issue, with a few bots posting to the network mostly to spike their google pagerank. Which is silly because we've set the pages to be ignored by the google spiders... so what these spammers are doing is all for nothing. But we'll root them out within a couple of days as well and ultimately really clean deviantART up.

This issue features HDR (high dynamic range) photography, which allows for a greater dynamic range (variation between the light and dark areas) than regular photography. This can have a range of effects, between creating an image more like what you see with your eyes and depicting hyper-real results with a painterly feeling.
Some digital cameras can shoot HDR in-camera but HDR images can also be created using digital editing software with multiple exposures of the same scene. 'Fake' HDR can also be created from just one exposure. Here are some beautiful examples of HDR photography...

What is Digital Darkroom? What is Digital Darkroom? What is Digital Darkroom? in Art Features More Like This
Digital Darkroom is the evolution, converting chemical processes to digital ones, cellulose and silver to pixels and bytes. The first digital camera, weighing 8 pounds with a resolution of 0.01 megapixels, was built in 1975 and recorded black and white images to a cassette tape. The first camera which recorded images as computerised files was made by Fuji in 1988 and the first commercially available digital camera was created in 1990.
The Digital Darkroom gallery on dA is for photographs which have been digitally processed or edited with the use of computer software to emulate traditional and alternative film darkroom techniques. It's also a place for very modern processes like HDR photography, which involves creating images with a higher range of visible tones than regular photography.

This differs from photomanipulations, where elements of numerous images are separately extracted and combined to make a final image.

Bring your Type to Life
This may sound abstract at first, but to keep the theme as open as possible, I choose a rather abstract title. There are many directions in which you can go. You could choose an anthropomorphic direction, where you breathe life into letters and give them human or other animate characteristics. Another route would be to create the letters out of living objects, such as plants or animals.
Which direction you choose, maybe even a third or fourth one, does not matter. What matters is that your letters are brought to life!
What kind of letters you bring to life, words, glyphs or sentences, is 100% up to you. This contest has a more visual approach, so you will not be judged on the creativity of the meaning you choose to give to the letters. However, don't rush it! Even one letter can appear completely different than another. Be wise with the letters, word

Suggested Changes for the Fonts GalleryLast June a new gallery strcuture was introduced to Resources & Stock Images > Fonts. You can read more about it in the R&S - Font Gallery Update!.Suggested Changes for the Fonts Gallery in Deviant Events More Like This
During the process of finding thumbs for each of the Fonts categories in that tree, it became clear to me, that some of the galleries do not even contain one proper submission. I have to admit, I did not do as much moving of deviations into right categories as I should have, but I was also searching for specific fonts and was not able to find one or god forbid two deviations of that kind. There are 24 categories and not all of them seem necessary.
Now with the official announcement of the Gallery Makeover Project it is time to reflect upon the gallery and consider changes to its structure.
I have thought about this issue for months already!
Contest: Crossovers! As kids, we often mashed our toys together, regardless of Copyright. Superman would take command of G.I. Joe to defeat the combined forces of Doctor Doom and the Decepticons, while Barbie took a break from her idealistic lifestyle to become a Pokemon master. And the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles got recruited into Starfleet and taught Spock the wonders of pizza. (And from the furor arose Mister Rogers in a blood-stained sweater.)Contest: Crossovers! in Official deviantART Contests More Like This
And thus, the Crossover was born. It's something we never really outgrew, either. To this day, seeing our favorite characters from different stories meet and compete is a guilty pleasure that we all like to indulge in. So now's your chance to indulge yourselves for prizes!
