The world was cold and silent, not a single sound formed except the slight winter breeze and the faint sound of shaky breathing. The moon was high in the sky, not a single light source in sight except the dim moon light. Within a large clearing that laid dead center of a dense forest, laid a broken man. The man, barely conscious from waking up only moments ago, was breathing as if desperate for air, as if it would cure the horrid pain that left him paralyzed.
“W-Why?” he asked to no one in particular. He tried to move his arms from beneath the snow, however the pain and frigid cold had numbed him to the bone. “Wonder if its still bleeding…” the man said as he tried to look at his right side, a large sword wound to the side of the stomach, how in the Nether was he still alive? The usual mobs of the night passed by, for some reason not trying to finish off the dying minecraftian, maybe they took pity. He tried to open his eyes a bit further, trying to stare past his broken black sunglasses as if looking straight into the sky would be the answers to his questions. He knew if no one found him soon, he would die right here. Without his friends and amulet, he had no will to fight. “I cant believe you betrayed me…” His vision began to blur, his eyes were wishing to close, but to close for an eternal slumber or not was what he feared. He felt something land on his arm, he turned to see what it was but could barely tell due to his fading sight. “D-Dillon?” He said faintly, his eyes were finally closing, now his hearing was starting to go, he saw a few dark figures move towards him, before everything went black.
Earlier that day:
“Hey Sky!” Jason yelled as he entered Sky’s room within the Sky Army Butter Base. Sky who was lost in thought, turned around and greeted his friend.
“Hey Jason, what’s up?”
“Nothing much, just came from the infirmary.” Sky normally dreads to hear any news that involve any recruit in the infirmary but he knew which person Jason went to check on.
“How’s Deadlox then? Has anything changed?” Sky asked as he leaned back on his desk and crossing his arms. Ever since Deadlox was kidnapped, he’s been in stuck in the infirmary due to the fact that there always seemed to be a problem with him. In the first few days Deadlox refused to talk to or look at anyone and any sight of dark blue or water seemed to make him terrified. Then after he was willing to talk to everyone, any mention of squids or water made him go into a frenzy, throwing and punching anything he could get his hands on.
“Well it’s hard to say. You can asked the doctor who has been assigned to him for the week.” Jason went back through the door and talked to the recruits who were stationed at the door and requested for one of them to retrieve Dr. Mist. within moments the doctor was calmly walking down the hall to the two commanders. Her skin was quite pale, ice blue eyes that shined like sunlight hitting the ocean, and semi short hair with a large dark blue streak tied in a pony tail. She wore a light blue shirt and black skirt under her required lab coat along pair of black heels. What was unusual was that her clipboard was hooked to the side of her hip, and that around her neck was Deadlox’s headset.
“Why do you have Deadlox’s headset?” Jason asked Dr. Mist.
“Sadly I had to take them away, it was the only way to get him out of his latest raging fit. And I‘ve kept them with me so he wont go crazy looking for them but it will teach him not to mess with me.” Dr. Mist replied while putting her hands on her hips.
“Report Dr. Mist.” Sky immediately demanded. Normally he wouldn’t be so pushy with his recruits, but he’s been worried about Deadlox since he hasn’t been himself at all.
“Well.” She pulled her clipboard from her side and started to flip through the pages “On Monday he has his latest rage fit, the most violent one yet. The cause, my deep blue streak and a bottle of water I carried in. Then I, Dr. Mist, slapped him across the face and took away his precious headphones. Tuesday, I had a 3 hour solitude talk with Deadlox, condition seemed to improve for the rest of the day. Wednesday, same thing but was shown a squid doll, he tore it to shreds and then yet another 3 hour solitude talk. Thrusday, shown another squid doll and refused to look at it. Today, Friday, one hour solitude talk and is reacting normally to squid dolls and water.”
“Guess he’s been busy.” Jason added.
“I’ve actually cleared him to move around the base now, of course with supervision. By the way Jason, be careful around him, since your suit is the color blue and all.” Mr. Mist said hanging her board back on her hip.
“Well good, bring him here then.” Sky said firmly. She soon left to fetch Deadlox, leaving Jason and Sky alone. They sat there completely silent, waiting to see Deadlox, hoping to see their old friend. Only a few moments passed, until the doctor returned with Deadlox, in hand cuffs?
“Sorry, it was just to be safe.” she said as Sky gave a confused look. “He’s actually behaving.” She removed the handcuffs and backed up. Deadlox rubbed his wrists, he didn’t say a word.
“Deadlox!” Both Sky and Jason yelled as they ran over to hug their friend. Deadlox slightly startled back up a tiny bit only to be now held in place by his friends.
“H-Hey guys.” he said, trying to piece together what just happened.
“Dude how are you? You doing any better?” Jason asked as he gave a gentle punch to his shoulder, but Deadlox immediately flinched away and for a split second gave a scared look.
“Jason be careful, we have yet to fully evaluate physical reactions.” Dr. Mist said.
“T-Thank you for telling them Dr. Mist.” Deadlox said not making eye contact with anyone.
“Listen Jason, may I have a word with you back in my office?” Kinta asked. “Oh wait a sec, I need to return his headset.” She grabbed the headset from around her neck and handed it back to Deadlox. Strangely for a split second it was as if the two were staring each other down, not releasing their grip on the head set. Jason wasn’t sure what needed to be discussed but he followed her out the door anyways, assuming it was probably something about Deadlox.
“So Deadlox, how have you been? We’ve been worried about you. Here have a seat.” Sky went to “butter” desk, putting away all the plans against squid attacks. But just before they sat down, a scream echoed through the halls. Both Deadlox and Sky rushed out into the hallways to see what had happened, only to find the two recruits standing outside the doorway looking completely puzzled. Then, another scream was heard, one of agony…. It was Jason’s voice! They returned to Sky’s office and pulled off two golden swords that were mounted on the wall and then began running down the hall, with the two guards not far behind.. As soon as they turned at the last right, they saw Jason leaning up against the wall, clutching his shoulder trying to stop the massive bleeding that could only come from a damaged artery. “Jason!” Sky ran to his friend and tried to examine his wound. Sky cursed under his breath and demanded the two guards to take Jason to the infirmary.
“S-Sky…” Jason said shakily. “There’s a squid here….. They took Dr. Mist.” he managed to say before passing out in the recruits’ arms. With no time to lose, Sky and Deadlox hurried down the halls, trying to follow the faint sounds of suction cups down the hall.
“HELP ME PLEASE!” Dr. Mist screamed as she noticed Sky and Deadlox finally catching up to her assailant, a smelly squid man.
“Lock down the whole base! This is not a drill!” Sky yelled into his intercom. Within seconds the hallways began to cut off with walls of obsidian, however that didn’t slow down the squid man. Somehow he knew which hallway would cut off at what time, somehow he knew where to go if a way was blocked, something just wasn’t adding up. He made it to the exit and busted right through heading for the snowy biome in the soft sunset. Nearly out of breath, they both stopped in a forest clearing, also looking for the assailant that they lost sight of once he had entered the thick forest. “Damn it, where did he go?” Sky said looking around. He decided to kneel down and look through his pack real fast to see if there were any potions or water bottles, but no such luck. While looking for such things, the butter he had was removed from the bag for so long that it actually melted into the snow. He stood back up quickly, when he realized a dark figure appearing from the shadows of the trees.
“Hehehe, someone can actually keep up with me.” The squid man… or girl said. The figure was dressed in all black and face covered by a mask, but there was no doubt it was a squid, the smell was all too familiar. Sky was shocked when it spoke, the voice sounded so familiar!
“Show your face you abomination!” Said as he pointed his sword at it. The figure gave an evil laughter, which unsettled Sky.
“Is that really a nice way to talk to your fiancé?” The figured pulled back the mask, revealing the face of Dawn! Only she was the image of a nightmare, he skin had a slight tint of blue to it, so did her eyes, her teeth were pure white and looked sharpened as if a mirror image to those of a squid, not to mention she looked like she had gills and webs between her fingers!
“D-D-Dawn?!” Sky screamed letting go of his sword, letting it fall to the ground, shortly followed by a few drop of tears. “B-But….. What did they do to you?” The flow of tears increased, his love was now mixed with the thing he hated most.
“The best thing we ever did for her.” A voice said from the dark, Night finally fell, as if on cue when Dr. Mist came from the shadows. “How do you like her Sky? Or do you wish to kill her like you always do to our kind?” Dr. Mist giggled while pulling out a large potion bottle full of water, poured its contents on her making her slowly morph into something similar to Dawn.
“Let this be a nightmare, please let it be!” Sky screamed in his head. “Someone wake me the Nether up!” Sky was terrified, frozen with fear, he fell right into their trap. “Wait, if she’s a squid then….” As soon as he realized, it was too late. Sky tried to dodge Deadlox’s sword, only to have it run through his right side. Sky fell to his knees, in too much pain to stop the now squid like Deadlox from ripping off his amulet. He tossed it over to Dr. Mist as he walked towards her, who seemed so joyful.
“Our job here is done. Lets go celebrate to the fall of the Sky Army Leader!” As they walked off leaving a shattered man behind, the snow started to fall as if to cover their tracks. Sky didn’t want to go down without a fight, he dug his hand into the snow that had fused with his now not so precious butter, and created a snowball. Despite his pain, he got to his feet and tossed the snowball at Deadlox, actually knocking him against one of the trees that was 6 feet in front of him, hitting it face first. The trio paused for a moment, Deadlox pulling himself off the tree, now looking at Sky.
“S-Sky?” He said with sorrow as now his eyes were beginning to over flow. Dr. Mist knew what was happening, and ordered Dawn to knock him out. Looking furiously at Sky, she threw the empty potion bottle at Sky, hitting his face knocking him out cold while also destroying his glasses. The squids soon left the dying man, not an ounce of regret did they feel, but that was not the case for Sky. His mind just asked for one thing……
“Just please….. Let me die…..”
