HowlAt night I'd run,Howl in Free Verse More Like This
I'll howl and howl.
I'll run until it's all ok,
And maybe it can still get better.
Please not tomorrow.
Flesh and bone and teeth collide,
It's always mine, it's always mine.
Our eyes aglow with hidden fears,
I'll hide in there.
It's fine in there.
Let it wash and twist and turn,
You snap and snarl, and I'm afraid.
Should I take back what I let out?
It's not too late, it's not too late!
But you howl and howl and howl.
The laughing sound,
Your haunting eyes,
You mesmerize, and I'm ashamed.
This isn't me! But then it is.
We can't escape, we won't break chains.
I grab your fur and holler out.
"Release me from this prison now!
You've done enough, you've had your rage!"
But it's all a game. A twisted game.
A toothy grin this yell did earn,
You turn to me invitingly.
And pitifully you start to say,
"You did this to yourself you see,
This is still you, we are still me!"
And horrified I fall right back,
You walk to me, claws scraping, click clack.
