THE WIZARD KING
The Ciro Saga, Volume Two
Previously: The world of Ciro is in terrible danger. As the enemy gathers strength, the Wizard Galathar has teleported a pregnant young woman named Layla to Ciro. Layla, as she eventually leans, is the counter-part of the dead Prince Alan and ultimately, the only hope of stopping the enemy. To fulfill her role as said last hope, Layla must find a weapon of considerable power to end the threat of Zharo and the Ten Fists. Despite her pregnancy, recent events have spurned her and her companions on this quest for the long-lost weapon.
PRELUDE ONE: SPRING IN CIRCLE CROSSING
The city of Circle Crossing was a sea of displaced humanity.
Layla navigated as best she could despite her belly, pushing past uprooted families and lost citizens. She kept one paranoid hand on her purse and bag, holding the pair firmly against her side. Just in case. These people

1) Good Morning
She woke feeling a flutter in her belly. The baby was squirming inside Taryn's uterus and she had one of those crystallizing moments when she realized just what exactly her body was going through. And just how scary it could be.
Taryn put on a happy face. She smiled and bought cute clothes. But in the times when she was alone, when her phone was dead, and her computer no longer entertained her and the Hills wasn't on . . . she was afraid of what was happening. And what would happen.
The conception of the baby demi-goddess that moved in her belly was purely mystical. But what about the birth? Taryn watched a documentary just the other day that showed in horrendous detail just what happen
Deviation 500 - Part OneKelly woke up, brown eyes blinking awake, hair a mess, and with the baby in pregnant belly kicking her bladder. That sent her flying for the bathroom. After finishing her business, Kelly returned to the bedroom and looked out at Todd, who was currently face down in the pillow. She smiled, grabbed a nearby t-shirt and pulled it on over her tank top.Deviation 500 - Part One in Flash Fiction & Vignettes More Like This
She walked out into the living room. Early morning sunlight flowed through the window. Kelly sighed. Baby was kicking and squirming, making it hard to find a comfortable position on the couch. She settled for staying up. Mornings were easy for Kelly; she hadn't been a night person since her high school years and when she had started college, she made a complete reversal. This came about because her favorite classes were often scheduled first thing in the morning.
It carried on after her graduation and into today. She sat on the couch, her smoot

Ronson the Mighty was well aware he was being watched as he spied on the Royal Council. They sat in the main office in City Hall, shouting and debating heavily. As usual. Ronson sighed and adjusted his position in the tree. They loved to debate and shout. It was what the four did more than lead, really.
Ronson took a quick look around. He knew who was watching him and how long they had been watching him. He tried to give his own watcher the impression that he suspected but didn't know. He hoped the look around was enough.
About to give up his position and head off to the Circle Club to meet with the others, Ronson's attention was suddenly drawn back to the office window. His eyes widened as Layla and Artis were escorted into the room by four guards and the so-called 'Wizard King.'
"Shit," he muttered.
Ronson jumped soundlessly from the branch. As s

The door to the backroom of the Circle Club opened and the Woodsman entered. He was immediately hugged by Shania, the golden girl practically cracking the Woodsman's bark-like skin.
"Good to see you, buddy!" she said, brushing the golden strands of her hair back.
"You too, Shania. Everyone."
They all stood together for the first time a long time. Ronson the Mighty, their great leader. Uhler, the Dragon-Slayer; big bellied and half-Giant. Andras, the quarter giant red head. Newell and his brother Jarrett. Skinny and tall Darla. Shania, the girl made out of gold. And, last but not least, the Woodsman.
"So! The King's Guard unites once more!" Uhler declared.
Ronson smiled. "After too long."
"Ya can say that again, boss," Jarrett tossed in.
The Woodsman was handed a stein of mead. Ronson lifted his own stein.

Layla was probably about seven weeks pregnant by the time they left Fold Valley. And while some of her symptoms were jumbled during the transit from Earth to Ciro, they had all begun to exert themselves. Aside from morning sickness (which being on her feet made worse) and the enlarging of her breasts (making her bra feel way too tight), she had been lucky. And then, the fatigue kicked in. She struggled to make it through the morning now, hardly able to keep pace with Ronson.
She needed to pee constantly and she dehydrated quickly. What had once been a few predictable issues now became an all-out war against her status quo. Her abdomen cramped. She felt bloated and gassy. And so worn down . . .
It was not something she was ready for and the systematic arrival of each symptom came with a new set of questions. Was it normal? Why was it happening?

Prince Alan, heir to the throne of Cartarnos and last hope for Ciro, was murdered. To replace him, the wizard Galathar summoned Layla from Earth. Pregnant, Layla's blood is royalty in Ciro. Placed in the care of Ronson the Mighty, the pair braved the lands of the Wilds, the dangers of the City of the Ancients, and failed in mission to save the genius Locksmith from capture. Joined by the Troll Blorp; the recently transgendered soldier Artis; and the plant-commanding Woodsman, Ronson and Layla have sought refuge for the winter. Their hope is to remain safe and secure for the season.
ONE: SOMETIMES WE DREAM
There was barely any music, but everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves except for Ronson, of course. He stood against the club wall, the front of his suit opened at the collar. He stared at the dance floor, eyeing Blorp as the Troll did the hustle with Rosa and Christ

In her dream, Layla was standing in the saloon. It was empty. The chairs circled around upside down tables. A varying amount of empty shot glasses were on the bar. The flames in the fireplace were blue and green and then yellow and then black. Layla was wearing her hoody and a skirt.
The doors opened and Ronson walked in. "The fundamental truth in all worlds is that a chicken omelet is really gross. Think about it."
Layla answered: "I know."
"Do you like my tattoos?" Ronson asked.
"Reminds me of a cheeseburger," she replied, rubbing her hips.
"You're showing," he said then, poking her stomach.
She looked down. The belly of her hoody was filling out. She grunted as the skin itched. Layla looked up at the fireplace. The walls of the saloon were replaced with that of her bedroom back home. Ronson was sitting next to her on t

The wall of water had helped, but it was the fog that saved the day. It didn't truly break until the ships reached the northern shore of Lake Vinton. This was where Rick had awakened. They had made it. From the docks, they rode through the mountain pass until the reached the easternmost city of Cartarnos Circle Crossing. The Royal Council took up residence in the city hall.
Circle Crossing was often considered the most secure of all the kingdoms cities -- isolated from the other cities and towns and nestled in the Veron Mountains. The circular roads didn't help either. And for the rest of the season, it was left alone. Days after the fall of the Palace and the Great City, refugees slowly began to stream into Circle Crossing. Many of them came with horror stories of what had happened after the Royal Council left.
Others told of the armies of the enemy marc

Ronson arrived to quite a sight. Blorp was sleeping on the stairs. Layla was dozing on the sofa. Rick was talking to that cow lady. Artis looked like she was about to explode with energy. He sighed and came completely in.
"Ronson, we really need to talk," Rick said, looking from the cow lady. She was crying.
"You got that right. What is going on here?"
"Ronson?" Layla asked, coming slowly awake. "Ugh, I'm so tired. What happened?"
"Nothing good. But what is going on here?"
Everyone just kinda looked at each other except Blorp, who continued to snore. Finally, Layla sat up and pointed at Audrey. "She's the third."
Ronson's eyes widened. He walked over to Audrey and looked her over. After a few seconds, he turned to Rick.
"I need some coffee. Please make some. Layla? How tired are you?"
